uspell 0.1

uspell project is a spelling tester/teacher for elementary school. more>>
uspell project is a spelling tester/teacher for elementary school.

uspell is a sound-card based spelling tester.

The words to be spelled are spoken aloud by the computers sound hardware and the user is then prompted to spell the word via the keyboard.

To set up the rewards: make a directory, call it $base. Then "uspell -set $base", and dictate congratulatory statements for reward1 .. reward9 (or fewer).

I suggest parents or teacher perform this step, so the voice for the reward is not the same as the voice for the words. My list of rewards is pretty simple ("Hooray", "Good job", "Congratulations", "Atta-boy"). A final closing remark (like "You did it, thats the end") can be put in $base/reward-end.raw. Configure $base below to match your choice $base.

I expect the child him/her self to dictate the spelling words. "uspell -set unit_name", and it will give instructions from there. It may take some practice to
pause the right amount of time between hitting and saying the word. A *nix guru may be helpful cleaning up messes.

I expect the child himself/herself to dictate the words, and someone else to dictate the rewards, so there is an additional distinction between the words to type, and the rewards.

spell-karamba is a desktop applet for SuperKaramba that spells the typed words - letter by letter.

You can choose from deutsch, english, american, international and NATO spelling.

Installation:

Actually the installation is pretty easy:

Copy all files from the tarball into a new folder. A good choice would be $HOME/kde3/share/apps/superkaramba/themes/dwd. Thats all. You start the theme from a shell by "superkaramba spell.theme". If you have a superkaramba theme running already its even simpler. Right-click the open theme and select superkaramba - manage themes.

From there you can search for the .theme-file. Do not open any other file with the superkaramba application.

KStella 0.9.1

KStella 0.9.1

KStella is a KDE frontend to the Atari 2600 emulator, Stella. more>>
KStella is a KDE frontend to the Atari 2600 emulator, Stella. It currently supports the display of snapshots, labels, manuals, the configuration of individual game settings and of course, the ability to play games with just a click of the mouse.
All these features are fully customizable to allow maximum flexibility.
KStella is NOT an emulator. It is merely a frontend to Stella, a multi-platform, Atari 2600 emulator.
Enhancements:
- Fixed a bug where ROMs with the #" symbol wouldnt appear in the ROM list.
- Added a progress dialog box when loading ROM information from disk.
- Fixed problem with compiling on Mandrake 9.2 when using older versions of QT.
- Finally fixed the long-standing bug where KDE items (icons, rc files, etc.) would be installed in the wrong places. This was due to a bug in the configure script generated by KDevelop. Thats what I get for relying on a GUI development environment.
- Tested this release on Mandrake 9.2 and 10.0, Libranet 2.8.1 (Debian) and Suse 9.0.

Su-per-Doku 2.1

Su-per-Doku 2.1

Su-per-Doku is a sudoku puzzle game dekstop widget for SuperKaramba. more>>
Su-per-Doku is a sudoku puzzle game dekstop widget for SuperKaramba. It has most of the features you would expect from a sudoku game.

It generates puzzles, provides hints (if required), allows you to note potential answers next to a cell, set the difficulty level, and make the computer solve the puzzle.

Sudoku, sometimes spelled Su Doku, is a logic based puzzle. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a digit from 1-9 in each of the cells in a 9x9 grid made up of subgrids of 3x3 cells (called "regions").

To solve a puzzle, each row, column and region must contain only one instance of each numeral, 1-9. You start the puzzle with only some of the cells completed. You have to fill in the rest.

Send with Kopete 0.11

Send with Kopete 0.11

Send with Kopete is a servicemenu for sending files with Kopete application. more>>
Send with Kopete is a servicemenu for sending files with Kopete application. It shows a dialog containing all contacts in Kopete which are able to receive files and after selecting one of them, the file is sent to that contact.
Ive tested it only with jabber protocol (the only one I can use for sending files). Servicemenu was tested with KDE 3.5.4 and Kopete 0.12.2.
Although the script used by this servicemenu is very simple, Im sure there are some bugs, so feedback is very welcome.
Installation:
After decompressing the archive, you should put the swk.sh script somwhere in your PATH directory and eventually change its owner and acces permissions to be executable. The other file, send_with_kopete.desktop, should be placed in your servicemenus directory (in my case it is ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus).
Enhancements:
- Fixed bug in script, which caused wrong handling of files containing spaces

Space Mines is a game where one needs to make money by building mines and by keeping ones workers happy.
INSTALLATION
make all
make install
make clean
USAGE
Build mines (but not too many) and create profits by selling the ore!
You need to pay your workers wages to keep them happy. Mining on other worlds is a dangerous business, and workers are at risk from exploding mines, radiation leaks, etc.
Version restrictions:
- There is very little error checking for if someone enters the wrong data type (like letters where there should be numbers).
Enhancements:
- Decided to release it to the world
- Made it GPL
- Included some documentation

JRoller 0.9

JRoller 0.9

JRoller provides a rollercoaster simulator. more>>
JRoller provides a rollercoaster simulator.
It is intended to be mainly entertaining and not scientific.
The track and many physical variables are automatically generated from a number of fulcrums freely placeable.
The application does not make use of any 3D acceleration and should run on any decent Java-enabled browser.
Some fulcrum points define the track which is interpolated between them ("periodic cubic spline" for the experts). The fulcrums can be changed in realtime. Try it out and let me know, if something goes wrong.
Version restrictions:
- This file contains the source code and the compiled class files of jRoller. I apologize for the lack of documentation, but I think its not that complicated. If you want to improve or modify the source code, feel free to ask me any questions about the code. You need a Java compiler to build it, and the Java Runtime Environment to run it.

Plasmatronics 0.03

Plasmatronics 0.03

Plasmatronics Perl module is a Plasmatronics PL regulator controller. more>>
Plasmatronics Perl module is a Plasmatronics PL regulator controller.

SYNOPSIS

use Device::Regulator::Plasmatronic;
my $r = Device::Regulator::Plasmatronic;
print "Current state of charge = " . $r->pl_dsoc . "n";

This is an interface library via the serial port to a Plasmatronics Regulator. (http://www.plasmatronics.com.au/)

MAJOR LIMITATIONS

Serial Port

I have to replace the serial port driver - currently I use the unix only version, but I have written

Hard Coded Multiplier

The multiplier used for voltages etc is hard coded (currently 4 = 48 Volt system). This can be read from the system, so I will have to do that as part of the initialisation.

Combined Values

Load and other things combine values from multiple locations to allow for larger numbers. I know that I have got this wrong in a number of places. Work to be done to test these for large numbers (eg: > 25 Amps etc).

Alert Manager 1.0-RC5

Alert Manager 1.0-RC5

Alert Manager was created to run an alert command. more>>
Alert Manager was created to run an alert command, monitor the status of that commands output, and guarantee that if something goes wrong it wont go unnoticed.
Alert Manager has been successfully deployed in several fortune 500 companies providing guaranteed alert delivery and command execution.
It has a very flexable configuration file that allows creation of "alert chains" - chains of commands, each with their own fallback command, failure command, timeout, retry counter, and other advanced options.
It has a method for passing messages from the command line into the various commands defined in the configuration file
Main features:
- Runs any system command (defined in configuration file) and has several methods for verifying that it executed successfully.
- Logs all activity to a file.
- Has a method to prevent infinite loops of failing commands.
- Supports user definable variables in the configuration file that can be used later in that file.
- Script returns error status to the system when an error occurs and logs a detailed message.
- Verbose error messages to STDOUT if something goes wrong.
- Multiple debugging levels.
Enhancements:
- Fixed a bug in configuration file parsing that would cause alertManager to process some commented lines when it should have ignored those lines.
- Add support for passing the "message" in via STDIN. Just use a "-m stdin" and pipe some text to alertManager.
- Set SIGCHLD to IGNORE so children can exit on their own without waiting for the parent to reap them or exit.

RiteOfTongue is a Firefox extension that allows you to right-click on a typed word inside a web form to check if the word is spelled correctly and get alternate suggestions if it is wrong.

Then select the word from the popup menu to change it. The words are obtained in real-time over the Internet using the dictionary service from Dict.org.

If you are running Firefox behind a firewall (or router), you might need to enable outgoing connections on port 2628 or else the menu will say "Wait..." and appear to stop working.

PyChecker 0.8.17

PyChecker 0.8.17

PyChecker is a tool for finding common bugs in Python source code. more>>
PyChecker is a tool for finding bugs in python source code. PyChecker program finds problems that are typically caught by a compiler for less dynamic languages, like C and C++. It is similar to lint. Because of the dynamic nature of python, some warnings may be incorrect; however, spurious warnings should be fairly infrequent.
PyChecker works in a combination of ways. First, it imports each module. If there is an import error, the module cannot be processed. The import provides some basic information about the module. The code for each function, class, and method is checked for possible problems.
Types of problems that can be found include:
- No global found (e.g., using a module without importing it)
- Passing the wrong number of parameters to functions/methods/constructors
- Passing the wrong number of parameters to builtin functions & methods
- Using format strings that dont match arguments
- Using class methods and attributes that dont exist
- Changing signature when overriding a method
- Redefining a function/class/method in the same scope
- Using a variable before setting it
- self is not the first parameter defined for a method
- Unused globals and locals (module or variable)
- Unused function/method arguments (can ignore self)
- No doc strings in modules, classes, functions, and methods
Enhancements:
- This release added new options to limit the number of warnings shown, only show warnings from files on the command line, display warnings by class (warning type), disable C extensions that crash, and add support for ROT_ opcodes.
- Spurious warnings from bit operations, int(x/y), wrong filenames, and setup/install problems were fixed.

gvrpad 0.1

gvrpad 0.1

gvrpad is a daemon that makes GVRP announcements of all VLAN interfaces on a FreeBSD system. more>>
gvrpad is a daemon that makes GVRP announcements of all VLAN interfaces on a FreeBSD system.

GVRP is the GARP VLAN Registration Protocol, defined in IEEE 802.1Q (VLANS); GARP is the Generic Attribute Registration Protocol, defined in 802.1D (bridging). The protocol allows switches or trunked end stations to announce to the network what VLANs should be forwarded to that device. The effect is that VLANs only need to be configured on the member ports; the protocol figures out which trunk ports are effectively also members.

This daemon just announces the VLANs statically configured on each interface to that interface. It does not listen for inbound GVRP announcements.

Usage:

gvrpad [< options >] [< interface > ...]

Options:

-d: Write debug messages to stdout.
-f: Run in foreground; do not daemonise.
-i < pidfile >: Write the PID of the running process into < pidfile >. (Send a SIGINT to the process to terminate it).
-l < count >: Send LeaveAll actions every < count > updates. Use -l 1 to send LeaveAll with every update. The default is to send LeaveAll every 3 updates.
-t < seconds >: Set time in seconds to wait between updates. The default is 3.
-x: Exclude the listed interfaces.
-V: Display version, copyright and warranty information.

The handling of interface parameters is as follows:

If no parameters are provided, all interfaces that have VLANs configured on them will be sent GVRP announcements.
If interfaces are listed, and the -x switch is not specified, only interfaces that have VLANs configured on them AND are included in the parameter list will receive GVRP updates.
If interfaces are listed the -x switch is specified, all interfaces with VLANs configured, but are NOT included in the parameter list will received GVRP announcements.

The interface parameters are string matched on interfaces found on the system; a mis-spelled name will not generate an error.
