uspell project is a spelling tester/teacher for elementary school.

uspell is a sound-card based spelling tester.

The words to be spelled are spoken aloud by the computers sound hardware and the user is then prompted to spell the word via the keyboard.

To set up the rewards: make a directory, call it $base. Then "uspell -set $base", and dictate congratulatory statements for reward1 .. reward9 (or fewer).

I suggest parents or teacher perform this step, so the voice for the reward is not the same as the voice for the words. My list of rewards is pretty simple ("Hooray", "Good job", "Congratulations", "Atta-boy"). A final closing remark (like "You did it, thats the end") can be put in $base/reward-end.raw. Configure $base below to match your choice $base.

I expect the child him/her self to dictate the spelling words. "uspell -set unit_name", and it will give instructions from there. It may take some practice to
pause the right amount of time between hitting and saying the word. A *nix guru may be helpful cleaning up messes.

I expect the child himself/herself to dictate the words, and someone else to dictate the rewards, so there is an additional distinction between the words to type, and the rewards.

ispell-da is an ispell dictionary for spell-checking of Danish texts. ispell-da project is based on "Den store danske ordliste" (The Comprehensive Danish Dictionary).

spell-karamba is a desktop applet for SuperKaramba that spells the typed words - letter by letter.

You can choose from deutsch, english, american, international and NATO spelling.

Installation:

Actually the installation is pretty easy:

Copy all files from the tarball into a new folder. A good choice would be $HOME/kde3/share/apps/superkaramba/themes/dwd. Thats all. You start the theme from a shell by "superkaramba spell.theme". If you have a superkaramba theme running already its even simpler. Right-click the open theme and select superkaramba - manage themes.

From there you can search for the .theme-file. Do not open any other file with the superkaramba application.

Zwischenwelt is a browser game inspired by Civilisation, Master of Magic, and some other games like this.
It supports building towns, armies, trading, casting spells, and more. The projects language is mostly German.
Enhancements:

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron is an open-source one/two player combat game, available for Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, QNX and Windows.
The original Snoopy was a tiny game for the Apple Macintosh, with black and white graphics, but already almost all the levels of the new Snoopy/SDL were implemented.
Snoopy could be played by two opponents, sharing a single screen and keyboard, and although it had poor graphics and tough controls, we very much liked to play it.
While we learned programming, we constantly sought for simple, yet interesting projects. If you have ever tried to learn a new language or API, you will have recognized that the simplest way in mastering the stuff is simply reprogramming an existing application, without losing much thought on design and originality.
So my friend reprogrammed Snoopy, in Object Pascal, using SAT, the Sprite Animation Toolkit, on his Classic II. That version of Snoopy features a fully functional AI, network play, but only the first level ( weapons drop).
While he was at it, he also implemented a "missing feature", the bombs, for which there where graphics and sounds in the game, but which could not be thrown.
When I discovered SDL, I recognized that it would be ideal for the job. Running on Windows, Linux, MacOS, BeOS and many other platforms, it is my new toolkit of choice for multimedia programming. It took us several weeks to port Snoopy (besides going to school, but now the work is almost done, with only the finishing touches to be made.
I can only encourage everyone to try SDL; it is really easy and portable (if worked right).

enetman provides a network asset management Web application written in PHP with a MySQL backend.
enetman is a network asset management Web application written in PHP with a MySQL backend. Its intended use is to maintain a structured list of servers that can be cross referenced by location, manufacturer, vendor, CPU, and OS. It allows for a user to create and maintain locations, manufacturers, and vendors along with contact names and phone numbers to each.
It contains a device log that tracks issues that servers have had, a list of network ports on the server along with IP information (IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, network card make/model and MAC) for each port (this includes aliased ports), and a software manager that keeps tabs on expiration dates of software.
It enables the user to create a directory tree with files that can then be attached to locations, vendors, manufacturers, software, or servers.
It maintains a list of all software installed on a server and how many licenses are allocated to it.
A Perl script run from cron emails users when a license is about to expire.
