Sony RM-X2S XMMS Plugin 1.3
Sony RM-X2S XMMS Plugin plugin lets you control XMMS with a Sony RM- X2S joystick. more>>
Sony RM-X2S XMMS Plugin plugin lets you control XMMS with a Sony RM- X2S joystick. These joysticks are typically shipped with certain car radios. The use of similar devices from other vendors should be possible. The joystick is connected to the standard game port.
Installation:
Compile and install the plugin source with:
./configure
make
make install
You can supply the following options to configure:
--enable-debug
enable debugging prints
--enable-nls
enable localization
You can insert module options into /etc/modules.conf to load the joystick module automatically by make installmodule.
If you are not root, or dont want to install into the global plugin directory use make install-home to install the plugin to your private xmms directory (~/.xmms).
Setup in XMMS
- Now start xmms and get the plugin configuration panel with CTRL+p. Select the plugin and click the Configure button (picture).
- Check the device setting. If you have only one joystick port, the default of /dev/js0 should be fine. (picture)
- Calibrate the joystick. The systems needs to perform 4 measurements each lasting 2 seconds. If you press the calibration button the first measure will start and a popup window will appear after 2 seconds. (picture)
- Press the OFF Button on your Sonystick on click OK. Leave the button pressed during the measurement (2 seconds) until the text in the popup window changes
- Now the same procedure with the MUTE Button
- Now press no button on the sonystick
- Now set the precision to 5. If you experience difficulties when using the joystick (events without touching the joystick or some buttons having the same event) you can alter this setting. Lower values make the joystick more precise, thus harder to control.
- Configure the buttons. A beep indicates that an event was successfully recorded.
- Pressing the OK Button to save the configuration. Cancel will not save any changes made to the configuration.
- Finally you can enable the plugin in the XMMS preferences window.

WengoPhone 2.1.1
WengoPhone is a multi-platform VOIP client sponsored and developed by WENGO and MBDSYS. more>>
The Wengophone is an easy to use program, that enables you to call anyone, anywhere, anytime, for free. Its native use of the SIP protocol makes it interoperable with most on the known VoIP technologies.
WengoPhone already has built-in video capabilities, and is will offer many more features in the near future such as calling ordinary phones (land lines and mobiles) at very low prices, conference calls, user communities and innovative cellphone-based services.
With our software, you have better audio quality, broader connectivity and low bandwidth usage. Additionally, thanks to its GPL licence and SIP-compliant foundations, you get the freedom of open source software: add functionnality or modify Wengophone to fit your needs.
We are aware of the challenge that is launching an open source project, not just in terms of creating a new technology, but also in getting developers and future customers to support the efforts. We are commited to consistent and honest communication.
OpenWengo and Wengos commercial ventures are complementary, and our goal is to provide an alternative to expensive and/or proprietary services.
We expect to compete strongly with Skype in the realm of software-based services (PC to PC) and complementary access modes (ATA, mobile devices). The trick? Free calls, Free software.
SIP, short for Session Initiation Protocol, is an open standard developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force. Eventually, it will enable interoperability with other compliant VoIP service providers. One will be able to call any other SIP-compliant softphone user, seamlessly and for free. Moreover, SIP will enable new services for mobile users.
Main features:
- MakingCalls
- ChatSupport
- VideoSupport
- Presence
- EmotiSounds
- FileTransfers
Wengo uses your broadband internet connection (DSL, Cable or WiFi) to provide telephony services. Call your friends, family, and colleagues anywhere, anytime, for free. Use video and chat features, also for free.
Wengo also offers low cost international rates (prepaid or unlimited) to land lines or mobile phones, and an SMS gateway service.
Wengo provides its customers with a Wenbox ATA, that enables the use of any regular phone. This device converts analog phone signals so that calls can be placed over the internet.

Linux-Mobile-Guide 3.19
The Linux-Mobile-Guide is a guide for users of Linux and laptops, notebooks, PDAs and other mobile computers. more>>
The Linux-Mobile-Guide is a guide for users of Linux and laptops, notebooks, PDAs and other mobile computers.
This guide was former known as Linux-Laptop-HOWTO but was now extended to cover Linux and mobile computer devices in general (laptops, PDAs, mobile cell phones, digital cameras, calculators, wearables, ...). These devices are different from desktop/tower computers.
They use certain hardware such as PCMCIA cards, infrared and BlueTooth ports, batteries, docking stations. Hardware parts cannot be changed as easily as in a desktops, e.g. the graphics card. Often their hardware is more limited (e.g. disk space, CPU speed).
Hardware support for Linux (and other operating systems) on mobile devices is sometimes more limited (e.g. graphics chips, internal modems). They often use specialized hardware, hence finding a driver can be more difficult. Many times they are used in changing environments, so there is a need for multiple configurations and additional security strategies.
The Linux-Mobile-Guide explains installation methods for laptops and PDAs and configurations for different (network) environments, security issues for portable computers and much more. TuxMobil is the origin of the Linux-Mobile-Guide and provides always the latest issue available for download.
Enhancements:
- A link to keytouch has been made in the Extra Keys section.

Mobilizer project is a Firefox extension lets you easily send your pictures, video, audio files and text from the web to most cell phones in the US. With the Mobilizer installed, simply right-click on a web page or media file, tell us what mobile phone number(s) you want to receive the media, and Mixxer will automatically re-format and deliver the media to those cell phone(s).
You can either select “Mobilize This!” to send the particular media file you are pointing to, or select “Mobilize All!” to choose from all the media files on the page. In cases where the media is embedded (such as flash) and you can’t right-click, hover over it and a Mobilizer link will appear above the media...
Mixxer’s Mobilizer browser extension, and conversion and delivery service, works with just about any wireless carrier in the U.S. and are FREE. Please note, however, that wireless carriers may charge extra for text messaging (SMS or MMS) or accessing the Internet.

Mobile Web Proxy is a (CGI) tool to make more Web pages available from some mobile devices (cell phone Web browsers, etc.). more>>
Mobile Web Proxy is a (CGI) tool to make more Web pages available from some mobile devices (cell phone Web browsers, etc.).
When I began using my cell phones mobile web browser, one of the things I realized was that there were a lot of web pages that my cell phones web browser simply wouldnt let me see. My shiny new Motorola Razr from T-Mobile, for many pages, would display an error message like "413: Page cannot be displayed." It happened annoyingly often; browsing the web from my cell phone was a lot like trying to read a book or a magazine with large chunks simply ripped out. And when I tried troubleshooting, I might have missed something, but it seemed like a big problem without an easily available solution.
So I tried to provide my own solution. I made a proxy that would present webpages for the mobile web so that they would display in a way that would work for my cell phones web browser. Technologies include paging, tag cleaning, and optional caching to improve performance, but without getting into technical details, this means that I can access some pages on the web that I couldnt access earlier.
Enhancements:
- A bug that caused the script to spuriously report 404 errors was fixed.
- A smaller default page size was set so that tag-rich pages would be rendered in a way more likely to be displayable on mobile Web browsers.

Version restrictions:
- Strictly sppeaking, this kind of duplication of the Number::Phone::UK class is bad. A tidy-up is in order, though it may emerge that a completely new implemantation is better.
- The results are only as accurate as my own investigations into current allocations. User feedback welcome.
- While the names of the nominal owners of mobile prefixes are given, number portability makes this information unreliable.
