Some Tools for Image Collectors 0.7

Some Tools for Image Collectors is aet of tools for obtaining and managing pictures and detecting doubles. more>>
stic bundles a few Linux tools which are intended to support the task of collecting an unreasonable amount of pictures (preferrably in JPEG format).
similar
a program for detecting duplicate or very similar images. It maintains a
database of characteristic color samples which it compares with submitted
pictures. similar depends on libjpeg and ImageMagick s convert (on a
modern Linux desktop system these components should already be present).
Storage medium may be a usual filesystem or a MySQL database. There
also is a MySQL UDF extension to compare image samples within SQL queries.
similar contains the communications module described at sagent.
simv
a core program to perform file management tasks on an image collection.
Its main purpose is to coordinate file movements with the content of
similars database. This applies to importing new files which get tested
against the existent collection, as well as to inform similar about moving
and deleting files within the collection.
simv depends on an external image viewer like ImageMagick s display
(should already be present on a modern Linux desktop system) or John
Bradleys xv (quite a fast one).
simv contains the communications module described at sagent.
sagent
a standalone version of the communications module used in simv and
similar. This software receives input from its start terminal and multiple
clients, distributes several types of output back to them, and is also
able to act itself as such a client.
Since communications mainly use TCP/IP there is an encryption layer
(Blowfish with 128 bit keys) which provides user authentication. Any
single activity of such a user may be particularly permitted or denied.
Secure connections should be possible that way as long as one can defend
the keyfiles and programs on client and server host against foreign
access.
Front-end connection software is available in C, Tcl/Tk and PHP3 to build
custom clients. In the most primitive case even telnet can act as a
client.
The standalone program sagent may be used as communications node in a tree
of clients. Another purpose is to be a shell frontend which sends commands
to a server and receives its replies.
snntpbatch
a command line based NNTP (newsgroups) client. It is mainly intended for
automatic download of images by use of a filter language. Nevertheless it
also downloads the message texts and converts them to HTML code which
includes the downloaded images. Also, it is capable of automatically
posting sets of images to the newsgroups.
The tools are designed to be very independent of the system flavor. On an
average Linux desktop there should be no need to update existing system
components. Actually one could use stic without having display equipment for
graphics.
Any program activity which is possible in dialog may also be performed in
batch runs. Therefore the tools are quite suitable for users who like to get
boring tasks automated and manual tasks simplified.
All tools code is open source and distributed under BSD license.
Example images Credit: U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (see images/CREDITS)
Enhancements:
- The new encrypted protocol version 0.2 is standard now : SHA-1 seal, 256 bit keys, variable chaining initialization vector.
- The protocol of a connection is chosen by the client and may or may not be accepted by the server.
- See sagent command -security options clientprotocol , serverprotocol.

Site Tools is a collection of Modules for perl that allow easy template integration, SQL forms creation, tables, sessions, and various other things that make web development a little easier to manage. Requires the SQLObject and PObject classes available on my project page. I have stopped developing these classes in favor of the Template Toolkit, it is a lot more robust and mod_perl aware, please use that instead.

To install everyhthing, follow the next instructions:

perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install

Basic documentation can be found through perldoc Site. It has pointers to other modules to look at.

Mjpeg tools 1.8.0

Mjpeg tools 1.8.0

Mjpeg tools is a suite of programs which support video capture, basic editing, playback, and compression to MPEG-1/2 video. more>>
The mjpeg programs are a set of tools that can do recording of videos and playback, simple cut-and-paste editing and the MPEG compression of audio and video under Linux.
Recording is supported for the Zoran based cards like the Buz (Iomega), DC10 (MIRO, Pinnacle), Matrox Marvel cards and the LML33 (Linux Media Labs). See related pages to the right to find the right driver for your card.
The recorded videos can be converted to MPEG streams. The software playback of MPEG streams works with almost every player and every OS.
You can produce special forms of MPEG streams like VCD (Video CD) and SVCD for hardware playback.
A key design objective of the tools is interoperability with other video tools:
The tools can be used used to edit, playback and compress motion JPEG (MJPEG) AVIs captured using the xawtv package.
The tools can be used to edit playback and compress MJPEG streams created and editted with broadcast 2000. N.b. the current mpeg2movie high bit-rate MPEG encoder is in large part derived from an obsolescent snapshot of the mjpegtools MPEG encoder.
Enhancements:
- changes in YUV4MPEG2 API to offer support for multiple colorspaces (particularly useful for DV video), so that multiple planar YUV formats (also monochrome or alpha) are supported.
- most filtering tools have been adapted to support multiple YUV formats, so that you will not lose quality/precision in conversion steps.
- Many new or dramatically improved filters including (but not limited to):
*) yuvdenoise (denoising filter)
*) yuvdeinterlace (intelligent deinterlacing program)
*) y4munsharp (unsharp mask image sharpening program)
- Improvements in the IDCT/DCT routines in the MPEG-1/-2 encoder (much more exact now and not subject to overflow/truncation on the IA32 arch).
- MANY new utilties for importing/exporting data:
*) New and improved PGM/PNM conversion programs for dealing with PPM data.
*) Utilities to convert raw (headerless) YUV data to and from YUV4MPEG2 format. Useful when interfacing with other program suites.
*) Program (yuyvtoy4m) to convert 4:2:2 data from digital cameras into YUV4MPEG2 format for use with mjpegtools.
*) y4mstabilizer for stabilizing images with unsteady camera work
- Improvements and fixes in mplex for handling PCM audio (LPCM audio actually works now)
- DPME (Dual Prime Motion Estimation) in the encoder (mpeg2enc) is fully functional (it was present but buggy/artifacted in the earlier releases)
- Rate control in the encoder improved considerably.
- Much better Quicktime file handling (via libquicktime) especially the audio tracks.
- Besides the always-excellent x86 support, we now have full support for AMD64 (including MMX/SSE/etc. optimizations) and for PPC (e.g. Linux or OS/X), and win32 support is also available (via Cygwin/Mingw).

QA Tools 1.2

QA Tools 1.2

QA Tools allow you to automatically generate regular releases and/or snapshots of your product. more>>
QA Tools allow you to automatically generate regular releases and/or snapshots of your product. Your product can be distributed as a source code archive (typically .tar.gz) or as a binary distribution archive (.deb, .rpm, .exe).
QA Tools can be used to generate nighly-built source and binary packages suitable for continuous integration and testing.
QA Tools can handle very simple product dependencies (read: in order to build/package product A you first need to build/package product B).
QA Tools work currently with the software packages that have source code managed using Subversion and that are ./configured && make installed using autoconf/automake.
QA Tools can help the people who are developing set of dependent crossplatform products that need to be packaged for different distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora Core, Suse, Windows, ...).
You should be familiar with autoconf/automake (particulary `make dist), RPM package building, and DEB package building. You should know how to store source code in SVN (trunk, branches, tags). QA Tools will not do any of those for you, but will help you to automate certain things and consume less time doing them.
Enhancements:
- Fix swapped function calls in svn-release-{deb,rpm}

cdp-tools

cdp-tools

cdp-tools is a software that provides tools to work with the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP). more>>
cdp-tools is a software that provides tools to work with the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP).
They were written because of a particular hosting center that insisted on learning routes using CDP, and thusly required Cisco Switches for doing their dirty work.
cdp-listen/cdp-routemgr are proof-of-concepts that may be useful if you want to implement a similarly brain-damaged proposal.
cdp-send is a must-have tool if you are in that situation. It can pretend to be just about any kind of Cisco hardware you can imagine.
The source is a bit difficult to follow as a requirement was that it build under both the ancient libnet and the new libnet code. hence, much nasty macro-ing.

xen-tools is a collection of scripts which allow you to manipulate virtual images for the Xen virtualization software. more>>
xen-tools project is a collection of scripts which allow you to manipulate virtual images for the Xen virtualization software.
With the tools installed, you may create new instances of Debian, complete with networking, OpenSSH, and user accounts, with one simple command. Images may also be easily updated, listed, or deleted.
Main features:
- Create new Xen instances of Debian Sarge, in minutes. (xen-create-image)
- Duplicate an existing image, whilst updating the networking information. (xen-duplicate-image)
- List all existing images with their networking details (xen-list-images)
- Delete previously created instances. (xen-delete-image)
- Update the images youve created with apt-get, without booting them. (xen-update-image)
Creating A New Image:
The script will contains a full manual written using the perl documentation system, perldoc, which you can read by executing:
xen-create-image --manual
This manual describes the operation of the script, and the supported options. (Each of the available options may be setup in a configuration file for ease of use.)
As a very simple example the following command willcreate an image using DHCP to obtain its networking information. The primary disk will 2Gb with 128Mb memory and swap:
xen-create-image --hostname=vm01 --dir=/home/xen
--size=2Gb --swap=128Mb --memory=128Mb --dhcp
If you wish to give the instance a static IP address then provide the information with the following flags:
--ip
The IP address to give the instance.
--gateway
The IP address of the gateway machine.
--broadcast
The broadcast address to use.
--network
The network the image is upon.
--netmask
