solar lights
Strobe Light 1.0
Simple utility that turns your monitor into a configurable strobe light. more>>
Source code is included alongside the executable "strobelight" in the archive.
Solar Visitor 0.2.1
Solar Visitor is a space simulator where the user flies around our Solar System in a 3D view. more>>
Because Solar Visitor is a 3D program, performance depends on the capabilities of the users video system.
If you wish you may build from source using available tools but be warned this is not an easy task. An addition to Ogre a compiler and IDE (on Windows) are required. The Ogre web site has installation instructions for its use. Those without c/c++ experience will find themselves jumping in the deep end.
With the release of version 0.2.x the user can view planets rendered from textures which is a vast improvement over the painted colours of 0.1.0. There is still realism to add. For instance, the orbits are engineered to showcase shadow effects and not be realistic, where eclipses are rare.
The program code is released under the GPL, the media are generated from downloadable images on the web, details of location are provided. Images remain the property of respective owners.
Enhancements:
- bugfixes
- tilted orbits
kmodemlights 0.8
This is a applet for the KDE-panel kicker, that watches a modem and allows to connect and disconnect the modem. more>>
Main features:
- the connection-state on the button (offline - awaiting connection - online)
- two LEDs showing activity for Rx and Tx, much like a modems lights (hence the name). The update-frequency is configurable from 2 to 5 (default is 5).
- a graph displaying Rx-volume and Tx-volume (updated every 2 seconds).
- The bytes received per second (updated every second), as numerical value.
- The time since the modem is online.
The colors of the lights, button-icons (await- and online- state) and the graph is configurable, and the icon that shows the state of connection comes in three sizes.
kmodemlights still has problems operating in a vertical panel!
Enhancements:
- configurable shortcut to go on- or offline
Hogwash Light BR 1.1
Hogwash Light BR is an IPS (Intrusion Prevention System). more>>
Detection of malicious/anomalous traffic is done by rules based in signatures, and the user can add more rules. It is an efficient and versatile IPS, and it can even be used as bridge to honeypots and honeynets.
Since it doesnt make use of the operating systems TCP/IP stack, it can be "invisible" to network access and attackers.
Enhancements:
- New rules were added.
Light Speed! 1
Light Speed! project is an interactive relativistic simulator. more>>
Light Speed! is an OpenGL-based program which illustrates the effects of special relativity on the appearance of moving objects.
When an object accelerates past a few million meters per second, these effects begin to grow noticeable, becoming more and more pronounced as the speed of light is approached.
These relativistic effects are viewpoint-dependent, and include shifts in length, object hue, brightness and shape.
Main features:
- Real-time interactive viewing
- 3D object importer
- Snapshot exporter
- Special Relativity Scene (SRS) exporter
- Reference geometry
- Independent toggles for the four relativistic effects
- Numerical camera location + target readout and input
- Switchable background color

Solar Imperium 2.4.0 Beta
Solar Imperium is a Solar Realms Elite clone. more>>
You start with some planets, and a little bit of money. You are required to feed your people and army, and to pay to maintain your planets and army. If you fail to do these things, disastrous results may occur.
You are given several turns of protection, during which you cannot attack or be attacked, and cannot perform covert operations. This provides a way for smaller empires to build up their defenses and planets before they enter the real world.
Light 1.4.12
Light is yet another Mozilla-based browser. more>>
The goal of this project is to have a usable, fast browser for reading news, searching bugzilla, etc. There are no binary packages, and I do not plan to provide them anytime soon. Compiling Light from source requires Mozilla 0.9.6+ and Mozilla headers.
Carefully read README and INSTALL, and read manual.html in the doc/ directory for explanation of how things are done and why. may work but this is unsupported. Bug reports are welcome, but requests to implement a Cookie Editor are not.

scanlogs 2.2.6
scanlogd is a TCP port scan detection tool, originally designed to illustrate various attacks. more>>
This release of scanlogd can be built with support for one of several packet capture interfaces. In addition to the raw socket interface on Linux (which does not require any libraries), scanlogd is now aware of libnids and libpcap.
The use of libpcap alone is not a good idea. If youre on a system other than Linux and/or want to monitor the traffic of an entire network at once, you should be using libnids in order to handle fragmented IP packets.
Light Hawk 0.6
Light Hawk is a Jabber client with a focus on KDE integration. more>>
Those interested in following or helping development should use GNU arch 1.2 or later. My archive is neil@hakubi.us--terminus and is available at http://www.hakubi.us/arch/terminus/. The branch to get is lighthawk--mainline.
