Slackintosh 12.0

Slackintosh 12.0

Slackintosh is a port of Slackware GNU/Linux to PPC (Macintosh). more>>
Slackintosh is a port of Slackware GNU/Linux to PPC (Macintosh).

Russell Kroll was the first person who ported Slackware to PPC (http://slackintosh.exploits.org), but the project stalled with an unfinished 9.1 ..

I (Adrian) started again from scratch porting 10.1 to PPC, and ive stolen the name Slackintosh...

Please note that this port was not done by Russell, dont send him Bugreports.

I used the the Sources + SlackBuild files from Slackware 10.1. ..but i had to make a few changes:

The new Binutils from 10.x didnt like GCC, i used the 9.1 Version to build everything. The Installer uses BusyBox 1.0 and Linux 2.4 is not included, only 2.6.11.5 (Runs better on PPC .. imho)

Its not finished: Not all packages are ported. Youll get gcc, X, Mozilla, XFCE, Gimp.. but no
monsters like KDE & Co.

The installer maybe somewhat funky.. Missing packages are still listed and the yaboot installation isnt tested very well...

..but you should be able to get it running. It won the WFM (WorksForMe) price. (Tested on a MiniMac & iBook2)

Early Macintosh Image LoadEr allows to boot linux-m68k from a floppy on a macintosh such as MacII or Quadra 610. more>>
Early Macintosh Image LoadEr allows to boot linux-m68k from a floppy on a macintosh such as MacII or Quadra 610.
With it, you can create rescue disk, or remove the MacOS partition (needed by the legacy penguin booter) from your HD.
Create a floppy from rescue disk image
You can find floppy image from the package emile-rescue
Under linux, the command to dump image to floppy is:
# dd if=emile-rescue-x.y.bin of=/dev/fd0 bs=512 conv=sync
then, you can eject floppy with:
# eject /dev/fd0
If you are using MacOS, use MakeDebianFloppy AppleScript (you must use a floppy image with a size of exactly 1474560 bytes).
Enhancements:
- This release has improved SCSI support, allows you to create a bootable CD-ROM, adds Debian packaging, updates the PowerPC part (currently not usable), and introduces apple_driver (currently not usable).

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron 1.0

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron 1.0

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron is an open-source one/two player combat game, available for Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, QNX and Windows. more>>
Snoopy vs. the Red Baron is an open-source one/two player combat game, available for Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, QNX and Windows.
The original Snoopy was a tiny game for the Apple Macintosh, with black and white graphics, but already almost all the levels of the new Snoopy/SDL were implemented.
Snoopy could be played by two opponents, sharing a single screen and keyboard, and although it had poor graphics and tough controls, we very much liked to play it.
While we learned programming, we constantly sought for simple, yet interesting projects. If you have ever tried to learn a new language or API, you will have recognized that the simplest way in mastering the stuff is simply reprogramming an existing application, without losing much thought on design and originality.
So my friend reprogrammed Snoopy, in Object Pascal, using SAT, the Sprite Animation Toolkit, on his Classic II. That version of Snoopy features a fully functional AI, network play, but only the first level ( weapons drop).
While he was at it, he also implemented a "missing feature", the bombs, for which there where graphics and sounds in the game, but which could not be thrown.
When I discovered SDL, I recognized that it would be ideal for the job. Running on Windows, Linux, MacOS, BeOS and many other platforms, it is my new toolkit of choice for multimedia programming. It took us several weeks to port Snoopy (besides going to school, but now the work is almost done, with only the finishing touches to be made.
I can only encourage everyone to try SDL; it is really easy and portable (if worked right).

mod_crescent 1.8.3b

mod_crescent 1.8.3b

mod_crescent is another MySQL authentication module for Apache. more>>
mod_crescent is the core of the crescent virtual community system.
Tested on Solaris, OpenBSD, Linux and Win32. It has a high speed cache to make your db happy.
Whats this Crescent thing anyway?
Crescent is a virtual community system. A few years back the buzz word was "portal", later came "content management systems." Crescent loosely fits into those categories as well. But Crescents main goal is to provide the foundation for online, interactive communities.
Crescent consists of mod_crescent, an apache module that provides authentication support; the CFS abstraction and its handlers and user management tools.
The CFS which stands for "Crescent File System" works much like the file structure on your home PC. At the very top level is the root folder, the contents of this folder and all other folders in Crescent are displayed in the main part of the browser window. Much like the Windows Explorer or the Macintosh finder the CFS uses different icons to visually represent the various file types found in each folder.
Clicking on some of these icons will lead to things with which you can interact such as surveys and forums while others will lead to other directories, which will, most likely, contain more icons.
Under Crescent, everything is done through the CFS Crescent can easily be configured to provide as few or as many of its features as you would like to use.
Enhancements:
- Apache 1.3
- PHP
- MySQL
- ImageMagick

Directory Synchronize 0.91

Directory Synchronize 0.91

Directory Synchronize is the small handy utility you always missed! more>>
Directory Synchronize is the small handy utility you always missed! Directory Synchronize is small, reliable, and fast. And best of all - it is Open Source; released under the GPL you are free to use and distribute it.
Directory Synchronize synchronizes the contents of one directory to another. That means you can use it to backup your data on a regular basis to another computer or another harddrive.
Or you can use Directory Synchronize to synchronize the data on your laptop with the data on your desktop.
Programmed in real platform independent Java you can use Directory Synchronize on nearly every computer platform including Windows, Linux and Macintosh.
Use the Directory Synchronize GUI for starting, pausing and stopping a synchronization.
Or use the GUI to easily create and store a configuration and use the command line to automatically start it every time you boot up your computer.
Enhancements:
- Some bugs have been solved.
- If a file can not be accessed, only a warning is issued instead of issuing a critical error and halting synchronization.
- If you select a directory instead of a file as a log for a directory definition, a line-separator was added instead of a file-separator.
- Some NullPointerExceptions in console mode have been fixed.
- The " " wildcard can be used for the path of the global log, and the " " wildcard can be used for the name of the current directory definition in the directory definition log filename.

AmAvIs 0.3.13

AmAvIs 0.3.13

AMaViS-ng is a modular rewrite of amavisd and amavis-perl. more>>
AMaViS-ng is a modular rewrite of amavisd and amavis-perl. It scans email for malicious code inside attachments and archive files, stopping delivery if malicious code is found.

Most people will say: "A virus scanner? For UN*X? Why? Viruses do not work in a UNIX environment." On the first glance they are right (even if there are at least two viruses which run under Linux - well, actually they are Trojan Horses)

On the second view though, imagine a heterogene network environment where can exist UNIX and Windows systems. Now think of an UN*X server that serves Windows and/or Macintosh workstations via a POP3 service. Would it not be nice to ensure attachments coming via email are scanned for viruses before they reach a system they are able to infect? Well - that is what this package is for. It resides on the server that handles your incoming mails. When a mail arrives, instead of being delivered via procmail directly, is parsed through a script that extracts all attachments from the mail, unpacks (if needed) and scannes them using a professional virus scanner program.

Gutenprint 5.0.1/5.1.2

Gutenprint 5.0.1/5.1.2

Gutenprint is a very high quality package of printer drivers for Ghostscript and CUPS. more>>
Gutenprint project, formerly named Gimp-Print, is a suite of printer drivers that may be used with most common UNIX print spooling systems,
including CUPS, lpr, LPRng, or others. These drivers provide high quality printing for UNIX (including Macintosh OS X 10.2, 10.3, and
10.4) and Linux systems that in many cases equal or exceed proprietary vendor-supplied drivers in quality and functionality, and can be used for demanding printing tasks requiring flexibility and high quality. This software package includes an enhanced Print plug-in for the GIMP that replaces the plug-in packaged with the GIMP, and Ghostscript and CUPS drivers, as well as Foomatic data supporting the Ghostscript driver.
Gutenprint has been renamed in order to clearly distinguish it from the GIMP. While this package started out as the original Print plugin for the GIMP, it has expanded into a collection of general purpose printer drivers, and the new, enhanced Print plugin for the GIMP is now only a small part of the package. Furthermore, the name Gutenprint recognizes Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the movable type printing press. Finally, the word "guten" means "good" in German.
Gutenprint 5.0.0 is the first stable release of Gutenprint 5.0, and incorporates extensive feedback from the first release candidate. It
is based on the Gimp-Print 4.3 series that has been in development for over three years, and includes many improvements over the very popular 4.2 series.
Gutenprint currently supports over 700 printer models.
Enhancements:
- This release offers support for almost 70 new printers, full support for CUPS 1.2 (including extended attributes and on the fly PPD file generation), corrected support for borderless printing to Epson printers, the ability to choose resizing rather than cropping when printing from CUPS, and more.
- The Mac OS X binary is much faster in some cases on PPC Macs than the initial 5.0 binary.
- All users of Gutenprint 5.0.0 should upgrade.

SWFT 0.3

SWFT 0.3

SWFT (Simple Web File Transfer) is a simple Web application designed as a more secure and modern replacement for FTP and SFTP. more>>
SWFT (pronounced Swift) is a simple web application designed as a more secure modern replacement for FTP and SFTP. SWFT allows for easy and secure upload and download of files through the HTTPS feature of any standard web browser. SWFT is written in php. SWFT stands for Simple Web File Transfer.
Each single file gets a unique Id and Password for download. Multiple file transfer requires multiple Ids or the use of ZIP files. Swft automatically remembers file names and extensions. Ids do not need to match the file name, so multiple files with the same name can be uploaded with different Ids. Password protection is enforced to reduce abuse.
The default swft configuration allows each file to be downloaded 5 times or to remain available for 24 hours, whichever comes first. Defaults can be changed by editing the simple configuration file, but will eventually be accessable through the administrators web interface. These auto housekeeping settings make for easy maintainance by removing stale uploads.
Upload can be done without ceasing administrative rights, and the confidentiality of data being guaranteed.
Swft is a php web application and therefore cross platform. It should work on any webserver with PHP 4 or newer. Limitations to file size are only controlled by the PHP configuration.
The interface is very plain, but easy to understand and will support easier website integration and CSS style sheets in future versions.
The documentation is incomplete, but Install and Howto are included with the download
Main features:
- Its freely licensed under the QPL.
- Since its written in php, it doesnt require you to recompile your web server (although you might want to make a few configuration adjustments).
- Since its written in php, its platform independent. It will run on any system that supports php4 or better, such as Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and BSD.
- Its specifically designed to be simple and secure.
- It doesnt require a big application framework or other complex install procedure.
- It works without cookies.
Enhancements:
- Windows doesnt have /dev/null, so that was not a good assumption to make if we want swft to be cross-platform
- Example config file had a bunch of typos in it
- $HTTP_SERVER_VAR is depreciated, using $_SERVER instead

Sequence Analysis 1.6.0

Sequence Analysis 1.6.0

Sequence Analysis project is a collage of coding projects. more>>
Sequence Analysis project is a collage of coding projects which I have written over the past several years for various clients in my work as a bioinformatics consultant.

These clients have graciously allowed me to release these works into the public domain as freeware for Macintosh OS X in order to promote the platform and to encourage migration from Classic.

The upper window panel can hold several sequences, which are both editable and selectable. The tabs in the lower analysis panel try to keep up with the current sequence selection to provide immediate feedback. The selection is used in some modules as only the portion being analyzed for other modules i.e. Digest is used to determine if enzymes cut in the in or outside of the selection.

Most commonly available sequence formats have been reverse engineered. You can also access a sequences from the NCBI via its GID or UID. This currently cannot be done from behind a firewall.

Most of the analyses are simple enough that they are obvious to use, Composition, pI. Others could stand some documenation i.e. Pairwise and Primer Design. The Publish tab uses a string to control the layout. Click on the Legend button for some help.

frob 3D viewer project is a 3D object point/wireframe/polygon viewer - called frob3dv for lack of a better name.

I wrote this version mainly to learn c++. Also it was the first program I wrote after I got a PC (and put linux on it), but it has a long history. Many years ago I wrote a few stacks in Hypercard (on a Mac SE) for editing and displaying 3d shapes. I then ported it to modula-2 , using the free MacMETH compiler, then MOPS, a great free object-oriented programming language and application framework for the mac.

That is where it got most of its current class hierarchy. At that stage it was still only a wire-frame viewer. I then ported it to c++ for the macintosh using the Macintosh Programmers Workshop. When I wiped Windoze off my PC and put an operating system (linux) on it, I ported it to X and added the polygon drawing.
