SMPlayer 0.6.8 offers users a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.
One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...
Major Features:
- Configurable subtitles. You can choose font and size, and even colors for the subtitles.
- Audio track switching. You can choose the audio track you want to listen. Works with avi and mkv. And of course with DVDs.
- Seeking by mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to go forward or backward in the video.
- Video equalizer, allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
- Multiple speed playback. You can play at 2X, 4X... and even in slow motion.
- Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlace, postprocessing, denoise... and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).
- Audio and subtitles delay adjustment. Allows you to sync audio and subtitles.
- Advanced options, such as selecting a demuxer or video & audio codecs.
- Playlist. Allows you to enqueue several files to be played one after each other. Autorepeat and shuffle supported too.
- Preferences dialog. You can easily configure every option of SMPlayer by using a nice preferences dialog.
- Possibility to search automatically for subtitles in opensubtitles.org.
- Translations: currently SMPlayer is translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese....
- It's multiplatform. Binaries available for Windows and Linux.
- SMPlayer is under the GPL license.

SoundTracker 0.6.8
SoundTracker is a music tracking tool for Unix / X11 similar in design to the DOS program FastTracker. more>>
SoundTracker is a music tracking tool for X11 / Unix similar in design to the DOS program FastTracker and the Amiga legend ProTracker. Samples can be lined up on tracks and patterns which are then arranged to a song.
Supported module formats are XM and MOD; the player code is the one from OpenCP. A basic sample recorder and editor is also included. SoundTracker is free ("open source") software, licensed under the GNU GPL.
The basic concept is very simple: you have a number of sound samples, and you can arrange them on so-called tracks. A track (also called "channel") can not play more than one sample at the same time. Whereas the original Amiga trackers only provided four tracks (this was the hardware limit), modern trackers can mix a virtually unlimited number of channels into one sound stream, applying various effects to the samples used.
Tracks which are played at the same time are grouped to form a pattern. A pattern typically has 64 entries per track; these entries are cycled through at equidistant time intervals. A basic drum set could thus be arranged by putting a bass drum at entries 0, 4, 8, 12 etc. of one track and putting some hihat at entries 2, 6, 10, 14 etc. of a second track. Of course you can also interleave bass and hats on the same track, if the samples are short enough -- they cant overlap, otherwise the previous sample is stopped when the next one sets in -- look at the screen shots for a more visual explanation.
Finally, a module is a compact file containing various patterns and samples, including a position list which specifies playback order of the patterns, forming a song. SoundTracker can load modules of the popular XM and MOD formats. The also very popular IT format is not supported at the moment.

amf 0.6.8
amf is a front-end to mpg123, a UNIX MP3 player. more>>
amf is a front-end to mpg123, a UNIX MP3 player. amf is now available for both Linux and Windows. amf is intended to be a home jukebox system, and since is uses mpeg technology, which compresses audio a lot, you dont have to keep changing CD. It also can work like an unattended DJ box, like they have in several clubs and bars.
I am not about to say "this will revolutionise the way we listen to music in our homes"... but hopefully it will make it better. I chose to use mpg123 to decode the mp3 because, from what I see, its the most widely used player, the fastest (uses less cpu), and also it has the functionality needed by amf with very little change to the source. In the future, I may combine an mpg decoder in with the amf source.
Main features:
- Tunes can be mixed in from on to the next, making the transition between each tune virtually seamless. You fade in/out each tune, eliminating abrubt beginning and endings, and can also mixed tunes with in the previous and next.
- Playlists can be more than a simple list of tunes to play (eg, "find -name *.mp3"). Each tune can be set whether or not to mix with the previous/next, and if the volume should fade in/out at the begging/end.
- Each tune can be chosen to have more or less priority when picking what tune to play in random mode, so you can have all your favourite tunes be played more than others.
- Provides a (hopefully) nice interface. You can also run amf without an interface so, for example, you want to just run it in the background or something, or even use your own front-end to it.
- Uses gpm (optionally).
- Allows you to create a separate sub-playlist that is treat like a single tune. With this you have the ability to edit and mix tunes.
- Can now write to /dev/vcsa (direct to the screen) for the interface, instead of to stdout with ncurses. Speeds up display updating, and also lets you use stdout for piping things.
- Modifys a few characters to make the ascii graphics look a bit better.
