What is Hybrid Share ?

Hybrid Share is a simple (User Friendly) Mono C#/Gtk# Application that allow Mac, Windows and Linux Users To Share Files. The Application is extensible via Plugins, so you can Talk with connected people, check your mailbox or other things that plugins could do.

What do you use if you have to share files with your friends ?

E-Mail or Instant Messaging are the first possible solution, but the E-Mail Size block and the slowing of the IM make this channels bad to share files. The NFS (Network File System) or other system like this, works only between similar system or are a little bit difficoult to configure, the same for ftp server.

So The Solution is Hybrid Share that is Portable and Easy to Use, It isnt the Best Application in The World, but it does a useful work.

What is the Difference with a Normal P2P ?

Hybrid Share has a core of P2P but is more like a traditional IM (Instant Messenger), like GTalk, MSN, Gaim, Adium and so on.... No Network Configuration is needed, Youve only to add your "buddies" (like an IM) and Drag File Into their folders...

With SMB for Fuse you can seamlessly browse your network neighbourhood as were it on your own filesystem.
Instead of mounting one Samba share at a time, you mount all workgroups, hosts and shares at once. Only when youre accessing a share a connection is made.
Main features:

- Browsing the network is fast because all hosts and shares are cached
Other solutions as GnomeVFS or KIO slaves provide a similar solution, but have a few disadvantages:
- Programs need to be rewritten to make them network transparent.
- KIO Slaves cannot stream files making movie/music playing over LAN impossible.
- Gnome VFS just is unstable on my system, although is offers streaming.
- Automounting shares is possible, but you cannot see more than 8 at a time, because NT Workstation limits the number of connections its also a lot slower.

NBFW is a smb forwarder. With the Samba NetBIOS forwarder, nbfw, you can browse the local windows network transparently to and from your masqueraded network.

This will most likely be of use for people who have Windows machines on a backend network who want to browse the Network Neighbourhood on the normal network though their masquarading firewall.

If your Samba is not working ok, NBfW will not work, too. NBfW can cause major problems if you dont configure it correctly. And it has ... It really helps to know what youre doing.

A nautilus-share extension to easily share folders without root access.

Smb4K is a SMB and CIFS (Windows) share browser for KDE.
Smb4k uses the Samba software suite to access the SMB and CIFS shares of the local network neighborhood.

G-Share is a PHP script that allows you to share your Gmail attachments with the world, it is a download center with files stored in your gmail account.

G-Share project uses a MySQL database to store important data such as categories, download count, visitors, gmail accounts, etc...

TkSmb provides you a graphical interface for browsing MicroSoft Net. On linux I know only 1 program which can do it - smbclient. This program works as a X-shell for it, by simple analyzing output of it.
So this program interface dependent - it can fail easily if output of smbclient is changed.
Using this program you can easily access different workgroups, hosts, and shares on it, mount this shares.
Usage:
Using this program, you can easily view hosts in different work groups, view available shares and directories in it. You also can download files and (recursively) directories.
Navigation:
- Clicking on Group, Host, Share will open it.
- Clicking on files in Remote will download it, and start "launcher"(If you have it).
- You can select recursive get directories in directory popup.
- You can select mount share in share popup.
- Attention! While downloading file in the current Share you can do nothing in it. But you can open another, or reopen current. And file will be downloading while you doing some other acttions.
Passwords:
- TkSmb support 2 types of passwords - passwords for hosts and for shares. Once you typed password for current host, it will be stored in memory and reproduced when accessing this host. Hosts password used as a default for shares on the host. Password for shares is also stores. If you type password in dialog and click on host/share to it (stored) password will be updated. You can define passwords for different hosts/shares in rc file (see rc-file). If you want use one password for all shares/hosts push radiobutton "Keep".
Rc-Files:
- TkSmb support 2 rcfiles:
- system wide - in TkSmb lib directory (name tksmbrc)
- user specific - in home directory (name .tksmbrc)

Launcher:
- It is a program that can make assigned actions with different kinds of files. You can download and install it, if you want TkSmb to make some acctions with downloaded files.
Mounting:
- TkSmb will automaticly determine what version of kernel you run. And run smbmount will according parameters. If you have (old or new) smbmount renamed, you can set variable (in rc file) "set smbmountNew smbmount.new" or "set smbmountOld smbmount-". You can also define in rc file "set MountRoot $env(HOME)/mnt" to mount in mnt subdirectory of you HOME.
