ETH Lecture Communicator is a tool to improve classroom interaction between an instructor and their students.
ETH Lecture Communicator enables the instructor to create and carry out in-class online assessments, and facilitates organized instant communication for large classes.
It is intended to improve the overall quality of a lecture by providing the instructor with continuous feedback on the students understanding of the material.
Enhancements:
- The remaining known bugs were fixed.
- The most annoying of these was the seemingly random resending of no longer existing questions.
- Some GUI ugliness was cleaned up as well, especially for Linux systems.

WaMCom is an open source software project, providing modified versions of Mozilla client software. WaMCom comes from Web and Mail Communicator.

End users are looking for stable software. But the Mozilla organization makes it clear to say: "We make binary versions of Mozilla available for testing purposes only!"

The intention of WaMCom.org is to produce web browser and mail client software that is more stable and more correct than the test releases produced by the Mozilla.org organization, in the hope it is suitable for end users. In order to achieve that, stable Mozilla releases are extended with correctness fixes.

In addition it contains some security and cryptography enhancements.

WaMCom releases consist of:

95% official Mozilla milestone release
4% carefully selected fixes, official Mozilla code from ongoing development
1% other modifications the WaMCom maintainer(s) want to include

mod_roaming is a Netscape Roaming Access module for Apache. With mod_roaming you can use your Apache webserver as a Roaming Access server for your browser. This allows you to store your browser preferences, bookmarks, address books, cookies etc. on the server so that you can use (and update) the same settings from any browser that can access the server.
Supported browsers are:
- Netscape Communicator 4.5x through 4.8x
- Mozilla 1.8 (currently in beta, see Bugzilla for progress)
This version has been ported to Apache 2.0
Main features:
- mod_roaming allows your existing Apache webserver to double as a Roaming Access server.
- mod_roaming implements the GET, HEAD, PUT, DELETE and MOVE methods that make Roaming Access work.
- Specifically mod_roaming implements the non-standard MOVE method so that you do not have to set the li.prefs.http.useSimplePut preference to true.
- mod_roaming automatically creates directories for new users to keep administration simple.
- mod_roaming does not allow anonymous access to the roaming access files, does not allow users to read or write each others roaming access files, and is generally very strict about the requests it allows. Only that which is needed by Netscape Communicator 4.5 or Mozilla is allowed.
- mod_roaming can be installed as a DSO (Dynamic Shared Object) module.

Fortify provides full strength, 128-bit encryption facilities to the export editions of Netscape Navigator and Communicator. Commercial use, or commercial re-distribution, of Fortify is controlled under the terms of the software Copyright, and requires a formal licence. However, the terms are deliberately simple, and, more often than not, they are purely a formality.

When comparing Fortify to alternative strong encryption solutions, such as SSL relays, SSL proxies, or Java-based applet solutions, there are a number of advantages which has to be considered:
1. It is more secure. A Fortified browser performs strong encryption internally. When connecting to a full strength web server, you have a true, end-to-end, strongly encrypted channel. With SSL proxies, at least one segment of the channel remains weakly encrypted.
2. It is faster. When using a Fortified browser, the data in the communications channel is not re-encrypted as it travels between the browser and the web server. It also has fewer network "hops" to traverse. And, unlike some alternative solutions, no supplementary Java applets are involved. All these factors result in better network performance, and less load on your PC or workstation.
3. It is simpler. A Fortified browser requires no additional certificates for its correct operation. Indeed, no other browser reconfigurations are needed at all. It is easy to install.
4. It is intranet friendly. A Fortified browser can be readily installed on a LAN file server and shared to a group of users. No further installation effort is required on each individual workstation or PC. In medium or large scale networks, this can lead to substantial savings in administrative time and effort.
Main features:
- In the Netscape 2.x and 3.x browsers, Fortify provides full strength, 128-bit encryption facilities. These are used when connecting to an encrypting web server (with the SSL protocol). Without Fortify, the export-grade web browsers are limited to 40-bit encryption facilities, which are substantially weaker, and have been demonstrated to be "crackable".

- In the Netscape 4.x browsers, Fortify provides these same 128-bit encryption features, plus the ability to generate 1024-bit RSA keys internally (these are typically used for client certificates), plus the ability to send and receive e-mail messages using strong 128-bit encryption (with the S/MIME protocol).

Vine Linux project is a Linux distribution with a highly customized Japanese environment.

Many applications supporting Kanji-Strings are included and are pre-configured so that they work just after installation is complete.

Window Maker is the standard window manager in Vine Linux. The menus and dockable applications are customized for Vine Linux and many applications are started up by a mouse click on the menus and docks.

You can select FreeWnn (or Wnn6 for CR version) or Canna as a Kanji input method by using a menu of display manager: wdm.

GNOME is included for users who prefer the gnome based user environment. Vine Linux can be installed without gnome support if space is limited. KDE is also available via additional packages available in VinePlus.

Many of the basic commands and applications have Japanese localization. You can change the default localization by changing and envionment variable.

Vine Linux comes with a lot of Japanese documentations. Provided to help you are: the Vine Linux online manuals, Japanese documentations by the JF Project, Japanese manual pages by the JM Project, and X Japanese Documentation Project.

You can easily find required information from the installed documents by using namazu, a search engine. included with the Vine Linux installations. The tknamazu, a GUI frontent for namazu, starts by a click of the information mark located in the dock of Window Maker.

X Window System, XFree86-3.3.6, is chosen because of its stability and supports new graphic chips, such as NVIDIA GeForce 256/DDR and Intel i810/i815.

Japanese fixed fonts (10,12,14,16,20,24 dot) are included with bold and italic font styles for each font and size.

Five DynaFonts are also included as scalable fonts on X Window. You can utilize these fonts in pLaTeX, Tgif， Gimp，Netscape Communicator, and so on.

Many printers popular in Japan are supported by vine-printfilters. The printer configuration is easily done by the printtool.

Vine Linux offers packages to build WWW server (apache), mail server (postfix), ftp server (proftpd), samba server, openssh server, and many other server daemons.
