SkyServer 0.0.5
SkyServer streams live astronomical data to file at user-specified intervals. more>>
SkyServer is a computationally rigorous backend for planetaria, sky charts, ephemerides, astrological, or any application that may need to use realtime celestial data, making such data continuously available for processing either textually or graphically by your display script.
SkyServers astronomy libraries, written in Delphi-mode extended Pascal, have a ten-year pedigree. They are proven, stable, fast, and arc-second accurate, serving as the computation engine behind such well-regarded software products as Coeli Stella 2000, Adastra, DeskNite, and several other shareware titles for MS Windows.
SkyServers initial data set comprises a 15,695-star selection from the Yale and Hipparcos catalogs; Critical, NEO, bright, and transneptunian asteroids; DSOs, comets, sun, moon & planets, plus linesets for drawing, including constellation lines, boundaries, grids, aequator, ecliptic, horizon, galactic equator, polar points, and Milky Way.
Further data extensions may be obtained direct from Coeli. Extensions feature the complete SAO and Hipparcos star catalogs, regularly updated orbital elements for comets and asteroids, and nearly 300 extra star names and associated notes, all suitable for loading straight into SkyServer.
SkyServer dishes your data out in digestible form. Readable by both human and software, there are two principal file formats: "record jar" and rdb tables.
The latter may be manipulated at the command line without modification using a relational database tool such as NoSql. The record jar file is designed to be read in by a display script or simply perused by the user. See below for an example record from stars.data.
While the underlying Coeli engine has been tried and tested to production standard and been in constant development for over a decade, the SkyServer POSIX daemon itself is a first beta release. It needs testers and contributors, and I hope you will join the project.
Our aim is to offer a free, comprehensive, complete, yet extensible backend for astronomy scripting, thus rendering the hitherto daunting task of creating personalized astronomical applications for web or desktop a trivial matter. Whatever your style or preference - whether this be C, Java, Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, or shell - SkyServer will provide the celestial data in realtime, right down to the screen coordinates of each and every object in its database, pixel-ready.
Your own display script will not need to do a single calculation.
Enhancements:
- A command line parser was implemented for SkyServer, incorporating a brief help page, version, options, and licensing information.
- Documentation was expanded to include instructions on runtime control via IPC signals.
- Planet, comet, and asteroid displays were added to the SkyShow GTK+ frontend, and the title-bars N/S E/W "facing" bug was fixed.

WWW::Search::HotFiles 1.072
WWW::Search::HotFiles is a class for searching ZDnet HotFiles. more>>
Class for searching ZDnet HotFiles (shareware, freeware) via Lycos. http://www.hotfiles.lycos.com.
If you use the raw method for this backend you will need to include a "< p >" at end of your print statement, example: print $result->raw(), "< p >n";
This is so that each result returned will have a HTML break since the HTML is being extracted from tables, and, there is no < p > or < br > trailing returned HITS to properly format the results. No BIG deal really.
Print optioins: Using score will return nice star images for rating purposes at end of each description line for each HIT if desired.
Using index_date will return the files date.
Raw returns description, star rating image, date, downloads, OS version.
This class exports no public interface; all interaction should be done through WWW::Search objects.
USAGE EXAMPLE
One of several print samples for this backend (this is a WebSearch
example):
print $count. < a href="$prefix$_" >$result- >{title}< /A >< /B >< BR >
$result->{description}
$result->{index_date} $result->{score}< P >< /SMALL >< /FONT >

Python Kye 0.9.3
Python Kye is a puzzle game which takes ideas from Sokoban and the genre of falling-rocks puzzle games. more>>
Python Kye is a clone of the original, shareware, Kye for Windows, and is compatible with the large number of existing extra levels designed for the Windows version of Kye.
This is a clone of the original Kye, but it is a good one. I have done my best to make it as authentic to the original game as possible (and when I say my best, people who have seen PrBoom will know I take this seriously).
It mimics the original, including some of the unusual/buggy things which occur in the original game. It should be compatible with all levels for v1.0 and v2.0 of the original Windows version of Kye. Let me know if you find a level which seem not to work right.
The only respect in which it is not fully like the original is that it is slightly more predictable. In the original, timing-sensitive mechanisms in levels would sometimes break for no reason; I think the original used two separate timer objects to control the faster and slower objects, and these would sometimes drift apart.
My version does not do this; but this effect was so marginal that I doubt any levels exist which depend on it.
And, unlike Kye for Windows v2, there is no level editor in this version. But you can always edit them with a text editor ? half of the existing extra levels were made this way.
Enhancements:
- Wall auto-rounding in the editor was fixed.
- The .desktop files in the RPM were fixed.
- Code cleanups were done.

wx12Ton 1.1.0 RC1
wx12Ton is a program that helps organize music which uses twelve-note techniques. more>>
At the beginning of the last century twelve-note composition was a celebrated new technique to compose music without tonal sounds.
wx12Ton now helps to compose and analyse such music. In particular it displays the 48 forms of a twelve-note series (which is a lengthy task if you do it by hand) and tests the series for some particular features such as tonal phrases or whether all intervals occur in the series.
A twelve-note series exactly consists of all twelve different notes within an octave (c, c sharp,..., b flat, b) and thus there are about half a billion possible series. However, since every series has 48 forms, not all of them are considered to be independent. If one further imposes some constraints the series should satisfy, the number of valid series can reduce to some 10000 series. wx12Ton allows to search for series satisfying certain criteria.
The program is written in C++ using wxWidgets and I will take care, that that it compiles and runs at least for wxMSW (Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP) and wxGTK (GTK2 on Linux).

Open Quartz 2004.08.01
Open Quartz is a replacement for the Quake 1 game data under the terms of the GNU General Public License. more>>
On 31 May 1996, id Software released the game Quake, which became a huge success. In 1999, the sourcecode for Quake was released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
Thus peolple could improve the engine and use the engine to create their own games. Soon after the source release, the QuakeForge project was startet to create a cross-platform engine that would appeal to many people.
But having only a GPLed engine but non-free data files was unsatisfiyng so the QuakeForge team also startet Open Quartz.
Though being abandoned for many years, the project is going again thanks to new and devoted developers. But your help is still appreciated, there is a lot to do.
Why is having a free engine and non-free data so unsatisfying? Quake can still be easily aquired from the id Store and a Shareware Version is also available.
Yeah, thats true. Quake is a great game and we encourage everyone to buy it. Combined with up-to-date engines like Darkplaces, QuakeForge and Tenebrae its still a great experience. The reasons why OpenQuartz is developed lie not with the availability of Quake nor is Quake a bad game.
Its just that both a free engine and a free data set result in a lot more options and possibilities for developers and the end-user. Its for example not possible to ship Quake with any free Linux distribution like Debian.
But you can do that with OpenQuartz. Also, when you want to create an own game using one of the advanced Quake engines, you have to recreate everything from scratch. With OpenQuartz, you have a lot of free content already availabe which means a lot less work. Also, creating standalone games from existing Quake Mods is now easily possible thanks to Open Quartz.
