Web Information Saver Beta

Web Information Saver Beta

Web Information Saver saves and organizes texts, infos and quotations from the web. more>>
Web Information Saver saves and organizes texts, infos and quotations from the web.

Saving all kinds of text like news, quotations, informations with source and date for offline use.

The saved infos are sorted in categories and can be searched easily. Very handy for creating papers and researches but also for saving postings from online discussion boards etc, its also possible to save (and view) the information directly in HTML source code.

Why shouldnt i use the Browsers SAVE PAGE.. function?
I did it like this and lost soon the overview. Its always a complete site that is saved -even if you are just interested in one simple sentence! And these large files are scattered all over your harddisc and its uncomfortable to find them or to search within them.

Why shouldnt i use other tools?
Hey! You can use whatever you like. But they all depend on a special operating system or a special browser or they are just expensive. Through the renouncement on platform specific functions, the WEB INFORMATION SAVER is able to run on all major operating systems like Windows, Linux, Unix, MAC OS X etc.

BitWise Routing Server 1.7

BitWise Routing Server 1.7

BitWise Routing Server allows multiple PCs behind a router to make direct connections. more>>
BitWise Routing Server allows multiple PCs behind a router to make direct connections.

The BitWise Routing Server allows you to accept BitWise connections to multiple computers behind a router. Typically, using a router, you would set up port forwarding on BitWises client port (4137), and specify a single destination IP. This is fine until multiple users behind a router all need to accept incoming connections.

As shown by the picture at right, the Routing Server allows individual users to register themselves with the Routing Server, and then the Routing Server accepts all incoming connections and directs those connections to the appropriate user.

The Routing Server requires that your physical router support port forwarding with a way to specify different external and internal ports (this is sometimes labeled "UPnP" by many common home routers).

The Routing Server has several options allowing you to customize the Routing Server for your environment. Many of the options are self-explanatory. The two that are not are Listen on Port and IP filtering. IP filtering is explained in the next section.

The BitWise Routing Server listens on a different port than the BitWise IM client. This allows the Routing Server and the IM client to be run on the same computer without causing conflicts. You will want to set up your router (more detail in a later step) to shift the port of the incoming connections from 4137 to another port. It doesnt particularly matter which port you want to use, as long as it is not a port used by another program. The default port is 4200.

Depending on the complexity of the network, it may be desirable to filter the IP addresses that are allowed to register with the Routing Server. This can be done in the preferences. One very likely scenario would be limiting registrations to the 192.168.1.x IP addresses (192.168 is reserved for local networks). When specifying an IP as the comparison address, you can use any valid IP numbers for wildcards.

In the case shown here, the Routing Server will limit connections to computers having IP addresses of 192.168.1.x. Any number, 0 through 255, could be placed for x in the Routing Server preferences.

If you are not familiar with IP address classes and IP filtering, it will usually be safe to leave Any selected.

Setting up the physical router

The picture at right was taken from a Linksys router, other routers will have a similar capability, although it may be layed out differently. On some routers, the advanced port forwarding options are mistakingly labeled UPnP.

The router setup shows that we are accepting connections on port 4137 and then sending them inside the network on port 4200 (the default port). Enter the IP address of the machine on the network running the Routing Server, and make sure that the rule is enabled. You will want to enter a rule for both TCP and UDP (UDP is used only for voice).

Please consult your router manual for more detailed instructions about how to set up port forwarding on your specific model.

Configuring BitWise to use the Routing Server

In order for you to enjoy the connectivity benefits of the Routing Server, you will need to register with the Routing Server when you log in to BitWise. Prior to logging in to BitWise, click the Setup button next to the Connect button to open the BitWise Setup. There is an area to enter an address for the Routing Server, and to specify what port to use. The port must be the same as the port used above (4200 is the default).

Upon connecting to BitWise, you will be registered with the Routing Server. If you could not be registered, an error message will be displayed. Double-check that the correct address was entered in the Setup.

Registration with the Routing Server

Upon successfully registering with the Routing Server, the Routing Server will display the user name and the IP address of the registration. If you want to unregister a user, click on the username, and then click Unregister. Incoming connections will no longer be forwarded to the specified computer.

It is worth pointing out two things here. First, if you later log in from a different computer, and that computer is also set to use the Routing Server, you will be re-registered with your new IP address. Second, if you are unregistered, or move to another computer but are not set up to use the Routing Server, you will not be able to benefit from the services of the Routing Server.
By default, the Routing Server saves the registered user list when it is closed down.

Using the Routing Server

Assuming that everything is set up correctly, everyone that registers with the Routing Server when they log in to BitWise will be able to enjoy significantly increased connectivity with other BitWise users. As incoming connections are established, you will see the connections listed in the right pane of the Routing Server window. The IP address and the time of the connection is also displayed, and the connection is later marked when it is disconnected.

The disconnected/closed connections may be cleaned from the list at any time using the Clean List button. Only active connections will be left displayed.

gtivo 0.70 beta

gtivo 0.70 beta

gtivo is a TiVo media stream extraction tool. more>>
This application is a GUI tool written with the Gnome/GTK libraries. It can be used to view Television Show details and extract tyStreams (TiVo proprietary media streams) from a network enabled TiVo device. This application will run in Linux (and possibly other Unix varients).

gtivo has many user configurable preferences. Each option is grouped into a category based on any options which may be related to it.

TiVo Device - Options

TiVo Hostname (no default)
Specify the hostname or IP of the TiVo device.
Telnet Port (depricated as is not used)
This field is depricated and is no longer used. It will be removed in the future.
Web Server Port (defaults to 80 - http access)
Specify which port on the TiVo can be used for http requests (gtivo expects that Tivoweb is installed). This feature is used with the "Copy Show Information from Web Server" feature described below.
Extraction Port (defaults to 7900 - the gserver port)
Specify which port gserver is running on.
Transaction Log (no default)
A transaction log will be created (at the time of the writing, this feature was not implemented -- see sourceforge for more information). This feature may be useful for debugging gtivo.

Storage - Options

Save As (defaults to "%p/%e%f")
For more information on this, please see the section Save As below.
Location (no default)
Specify the base directory that extracted information will be saved in.

Extraction - Options

TiVo Command (defaults to "ExtractStream -s")
What command should gtivo run on the TiVo? NOTE: the TiVo side server (gserver) must be able to run the specified command.
MPEG (default is OFF)
Convert the extracted show to MPEG? If MPEG is selected, the tyStream option will be deselected.
tyStream (Raw) (default is ON)
Save the file in the format that the TiVo provides -- tyStream; the TiVo proprietary format. If tyStream is select, the MPEG option will be deselected.
Store Chunks Seperately (default is OFF)
TiVo stores shows in chunks. This option will save the shows in chunks. See the information in the Save As section for information on the naming convention which will be used.
Copy Show Information from Web Server (default is OFF)
Use the TiVo web server (tivoweb) to obtain detailed show information?

Save As Options
If the user is familiar with xmms (music file playing software for Linux) or grip (music file creation software for Linux) the following formats may be familiar. When specified in the "Save As" field, the individual options will be expanded to values found within the selected shows data type. The following table will detail the options and their meanings.

The Save As field is used in conjunction with the Location setting. Location sets the base directory for saving shows and typically looks like: "/path" The Save As field is joined to the Location field with a "/" (forward slash) character tying the two together.

Save As Options
%e Episode - The title of the specific showing.
%f File Extension - used to allow gtivo to save the file as a .ty (tyStream), .mpeg (MPEGv2) or .html file.
%p Program - The name of the Show (for example: Enterprise, CHiPs, A-Team)
%s Station - The station that the show was recorded on.
%F Internal TiVo data (seems silly to use)
%P Internal TiVo data (seems silly to use)
%d Date (seems silly to use)
%D Day (seems even sillier to use)

After selecting a show (or shows) from the [Now] Show[ing] list, gtivo will attempt to extract the show for the user. A seperate dialog will pop up showing progress. An "Estimated Time to Arrival" (ETA) field will be displayed and updated with the progress bar. The expanded information (from the Save As preference will be displayed).

Password Save 0.5

Password Save extension brings up a plain text listing of your passwords in a browser window. more>>
Password Save extension brings up a plain text listing of your passwords in a browser window that can be easily copy-pasted or saved to the hard-drive.

Some javascript warning fixes and a bit of debugging code for helping people that the extension doesnt work for (Email me if you get a blank screen and have some free time to help me debug and well solve this problem once and for all)

In Preferences, go to Privacy => Passwords. When you click View Saved Passwords, there will be an added "Dump Passwords" button. Clicking this will pop up a new browser window with the saved passwords which can easily be saved, printed, or copy-pasted into another location.

This extension will only work (as is) on the released 1.5beta1 - 1.5beta2. The intall.rdf can be tweaked to get it to install fine on any recent nightly or the Deer Park Alphas. It -=can not=- be tweaked to work on 1.0. Sorry!

Backgroundimage Saver 0.1.2

Backgroundimage Saver 0.1.2

Backgroundimage Saver is a Firefox extension that provides help for an annoying technique. more>>
Backgroundimage Saver is a Firefox extension that provides help for an annoying technique that can be found on more and more pages. That is to hide images behind a transparent gif to protect them against being saved.

Examplepages that use this can be found at:

print.google.com (just try to save any bookpage that is displayed after selecting a book)

www.imdb.com (same here with any larger images that are displayed)

Because since these pages place a transparent gif on top of the real graphic you cant just right-click an image and select "Save Image As..." because then you would just save the transparent gif (which is probably not what you want.

So this simple extension just adds a Save Background Image option to the right click context menu which does the trick.

Furthermore it is helpful if you want to be able to directly save the backgroundimage, since Firefox does not offer this option by default.

VideoteXt 0.6

VideoteXt 0.6

VideoteXt is a videotext/teletext-decoder for PCs running Linux/x86. more>>
VideoteXt is a videotext/teletext-decoder for PCs running Linux/x86 (of course, it also runs with other Unices, but there are currently no drivers for videotext-cards on these systems). It consists of a device-driver, an interactice frontend using the X-Window-System and the XView-toolkit and a commandline-oriented frontend intended mainly for non-interactive usage.
The XView-version is TOP-text-capable and is able to receive all single pages of a station in advance in a few minutes, so you dont have to wait when you access these pages. Frequently used pages can be put into a hotlist, which will be sought autmatically whenever you switch to a new station. Of course, you can save and load videotext-pages; exporting them in GIF-, PPM-, PNG-, ASCII- and PostScript-format is also possible.
The commandline-version also offers TOP-text support and can output the received pages in different ASCII- and binarThe device-driver is a loadable kernel module for Linux.y-formats suitable for post-processing (with AWK-scripts e.g.).
The device-driver is a module for Linux kernel. A list of supported hardware interfaces is available.
Im always interested in information about other interfaces -- probably I can add support for them to my driver. However, if I cant get enough information about the hardware, support for them is not very likely. For example, this is the case with all cards using the SAA5284 from Philips, like all newer newer Hauppauge WinTV/PCI cards. Please complain to Hauppauge if you dont like this policy.
If youd like to buy a new videotext interface, heres a list of vendors of supported videotext interfaces (most of them are in Germany, because thats where I once lived -- if you know of other ones, please tell me).
You can also use VideoteXt without a videotext-interface, e.g. as an external viewer for web browsers if youd like to build a web-based videotext server. If you want to have a look at VideoteXt before buying an interface, you can do so by reading the example pages included in the VideoteXt package from disk.
Enhancements:
- Fixed broken Reveal-button
- Made VideoteXt accept buggy TOP-text pages broadcast by ARD & ZDF recently
- Increased performance of GIF-/PPM-writing routines and added GIF- and PPM-formats to vtxget
- Fixed bug in GIF-routines that caused invalid files when writing several pictures per session
- Fixed some bugs that could cause coredumps or corrupt config-files when writing to a file fails
- Added spooldir-support to VideoteXt
- VideoteXt now is able to continue to search for a page in background if not all subpages are complete when you request the page in foreground
- Added Continue-togglebutton to be able to control whether VideoteXt continues to search for a page in background
- Added Stop-button to cancel a currently running background-search
- New dialog-box for copying selected station-settings to other stations
- Improved interactive feeling with slow interfaces (though it still doesnt make much fun)
- vtxget now can dump the TOP-text-tables in a machine-readable format
- vtxget now is able to read page-numbers from stdin, so you can use a named pipe to pass new requests to a vtxget running in the background
- Added virtual-row-support to vtxget (preliminary, vtx-format only)
- vtxget now also accepts page-ranges
- vtxget is now able to reorder the page-requests you give on the commandline if you use the -i switch
- Preliminary support for tuners on videotext-cards via tunerctl

Sigma Six 1.06

Sigma Six 1.06

Six Sigma is a formalized methodology which some companies use to measure and delivery quality to their customers. more>>
Six Sigma project is a formalized methodology which some companies use to measure and delivery quality to their customers.
Companies who participate in Six Sigma programs strive for a statistical goal of six standard deviations between the mean and the closest specification limit for whatever process is being measured.
This translates to a permissible defect or error rate of just 3.4 errors or defects of out of every 1 million "opportunities" to create that error or defect, or a success rate of 99.9997%.
How did Six Sigma originate?
A Motorola Corporation Quality and Reliability engineer by the name of Bill Smith is widely credited with devising the Six Sigma process. He had concluded a study which determined that actual Motorola product failure rates were much higher than had been predicted when the products were designed. The high failure rates translated into additional warranty repair costs for Motorola and decreased customer satisfaction.
Mr. Smith went to Motorolas CEO and convinced him that the company would benefit financially from a formalized methodology which analyzed and controlled quality and reliability processes. This process became what is known as Six Sigma.
Does Six Sigma work?
There are many large and small businesses who have implemented Six Sigma programs successfully. It is reported that the General Electric Corporation saved over $10 billion dollars in the first five years after implementing their Six Sigma program.
Enhancements:
- The CSS had a few bugs in the syntax that caused some minor display problems.
