Serial Over IP is a tool for the transport of serial interfaces over UDP/IP. It is very usefull for connecting distant equipment that run via a serial interfaces to a local computer.
One linux will be server and one will be client. On the server you can start the program typing the following command:
bash# serialoverip -d /dev/ttyS0 9600-8n1 -s 127.0.0.1 3000
... and on the client:
bash# serialoverip -c 127.0.0.1 3000 -d /dev/ttyS1 9600-8n1
In both commands the IP address is the server IP. Note that you have to start the server first, and it will be efectively be running only after the first packet received from the client.

Member functions are provided for setting various parameters of the serial ports such as the baud rate, character size, flow control and others. LibSerials idea is to simplify serial port programming on POSIX systems.
When you have installed the above tools, run the following commands:

Roster-in-a-Box project is a course management system designed to facilitate the use of autograded homework assignments, while also allowing for text-based questions to be submitted online and graded online by the instructor. I developed and currently use the system for my introductory statistics and microeconomics courses at Long Island University, and I have had it in production since 2005. While you will be able to break the program if you try hard enough, it is stable and very much ready for use.
I wrote the program because I wanted something simpler than Moodle (and also because my school was not supporting Moodle at the time that I started the project). I love Moodle, and Moodle may be right for you, but it wasnt right for me, because I didnt want the course management system to take over my course web site. Basically, Roster-in-a-Box handles the homework and grading functions with a couple of web pages and leaves you on your own to design the rest of your course web site. That may or may not be what you want.
It should be quite simple to take my statistics modules (and the forthcoming microeconomics modules that I just havent gotten around to packaging) and get your own introductory statistics course up in no time. It is also quite simple to set up a course that consists of only text-based, manually-graded questions. On the other hand, if you want to write auto-graded assignments for some other purpose, you will have to know how to code them yourself. The structure of the modules should be somewhat self-explanatory to experienced programmers, but is probably daunting to those who do not know how to code. The entire program is written in PHP, and uses MySQL as a back-end database.
Version restrictions:
- There are things you could do while editing the assignment list that would leave it in an inconsistent state. For example, if you leave a page open, then open up a different page and make edits in that page, and then go back to the first page and save your changes, you may screw things up. I will get around to fixing this problem at some point, but in the mean time try not to do things like that.
- The program uses the PHP session variable, which by default times out after 24 minutes (supposedly due to security concerns). You should bug the web site administrator to lengthen the PHP system setting session.gc_maxlifetime to be as long as possible.
- By default, the system resets to the Spring semester on January 1st, the Summmer semester on May 15th, and the Fall semester on September 1st. I should probably make these dates editable somewhere in site_settings.php, but instead youll have to dig through administer.php and homework.php if you want to change them.
Enhancements:
- This has been used in a production environment for two years now, but the code has never been released.

media-box is a program to watch all kind of multimedia files using a computer.
It suports playing DVD video, VideoCD, various movie files, Audio CD, various music files and watching various still pictures.
Main goal of this project is to have a dedicated computer in your living room by replacing your Hi-Fi component (DVD-player, CD-player). media-box runs in a linux environment so the need for computer power is very low.
Prefered system is a computer with at least 466MHz Celeron with 128MB of ram. Disk space is minimal, it works on 1GB partition but it can sure fit on a partition of 150MB or even less.
As it considers the sound output it is considered to have a sound card with digital out capabilities, so you can easily connect your computer with a dedicated external Dolby Digital receiver, but this is optional.
Graphics card should have a TV-Out feature, so you can watch your media content on TV. For getting the remote control over the whole program, you should make a hardware receiver or you can even buy one. Just make sure it is lirc compatible.
Software used to make this hardware work:
- debian - linux distribution
- xine-lib - library to play media content
- ati.2 - ATI drivers for XFree86 4.2.1 - to get TVOut working
- alsa - SB Live! drivers to get digital out sound

Shut The Box project is a simple diversion written in C and GTK+. The object is simple: roll the dice and click the tiles that sum up to that dice roll until there are no more tiles to click.
Shut The Box is based off of those little wooden puzzles with dice and tiles. My first exposure was playing this as a BBS Door on a BBS my friend ran.
The concept was simple enough so I tried writing it for my own Atari BBS (with the help of another more experienced SysOp).
After I took the BBS offline, the game concept grew from an idea into a sort of “Hello World” application I’d write in order to become more familiar with a language. Hence, this is my “Hello World” for GTK+, although I have several other applications brewing in GTK+.

slsnif is a serial line sniffer. It listens to the specified serial port and logs all data coming through it. slsnif works transparently for both the device connected to the serial port and the controlling software for this device. It operates by opening a pseudo tty (pty) and linking it to the actual serial port.

2. Name of the file to direct output to (optional, defaults to stdout).
3. Desired baudrate (optional, defaults to 9600 baud).
4. Timestamp On/Off (optional, defaults to Off).
5. Print ascii values in hex On/Off (optional, defaults to Off)
6. Print number of bytes transmitted On/Off (optional, defaults to Off).
7. Optional colors for timestamp, number of bytes transmitted and normal output.
8. Lock port On/Off (optional, defaults to On).
9. Use Unix98 ptys instead of BSD ptys (optional, defaults to BSD style).
10. Second serial port to open. If specified, this port will be used instead of a pty, thus providing an ability to log data between two serial ports.
Enhancements:
- Added ability to resynchronize ports at any time by sending a SIGUSR1 signal to slsnif. Useful for debugging applications that change port parameters mid-way, after starting the transmission. One example is pppd daemon, which sets initial parameters in the chat script, and changes them later, after chat script terminates.
- Added ability to use SYSV (Unix98) ptys instead of BSD ones (see -u and --unix98 parameters). This option can also be turned on/off from rc-file.

You will also want some sort of image viewer tool, whether an image editor like Photoshop or the GIMP, or a web browser.

If you have the necessary knowledge, install the image format libraries you want Imager image file support for, and Imager itself, otherwise arrange to have it done.
You will also want some sort of image viewer tool, whether an image editor like Photoshop or the GIMP, or a web browser.
Hello Boxes! - A Simple Start
As with any perl program its useful to start with a #! line, and to enable strict mode:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
# you might to use warnings; instead of the -w above
use strict;
These lines will be omitted in further examples.
As with any module, you need to load it:
use Imager;
Now create a image to draw on:
my $image = Imager->new(xsize => 100, ysize => 100);
and draw a couple of filled rectangles on it:
$image->box(xmin => 0, ymin => 0, xmax => 99, ymax => 99,
filled => 1, color => blue);
$image->box(xmin => 20, ymin => 20, xmax => 79, ymax => 79,
filled => 1, color => green);
Since the first box fills the whole image, it can be simplified to:
$image->box(filled => 1, color => blue);
and save it to a file:
$image->write(file=>tutorial1.ppm)
or die Cannot save tutorial1.ppm: , $image->errstr;
So our completed program is:

The ser2net daemon allows telnet and TCP sessions to be established with a units serial ports. Note that ser2net supports RFC 2217 (remote control of serial port parameters), but you must have a complient client. The only one I know it is kermit application (http://www.columbia.edu/kermit).
Enhancements:
- dataxfer.c, devcfg.c, devcfg.h, ser2net.conf, ser2net.8: Added a s banner token for printing out the serial parameters.
- ser2net.conf: Cleaned up the ugly banner3.
- Makefile.am: Add ser2net.init to EXTRA_DIST.
- configure.in: Move to version 2.3.
