Semi-Batched-Image-Editor 0.9

Semi-Batched-Image-Editor 0.9

Semi-Batched-Image-Editor program is an image editor for Linux. more>>
Semi-Batched-Image-Editor program is an image editor for Linux.
The problem: Got a huge amount of scanned pictures (from your digital camera, or as Picture-CD from your favorite lab)? Want to rotate some of them to the right orientation? Select a good detail? Scale to a given output format? Want to do this with as less as possible mouseclicks?
The solution: SeBIE - the Semi-Batched-Image-Editor.
Main features:
- Input filename selection via regular expressions.
- Create output filename via regular expression and substitution.
- Select image details with a given proportion.
- Scale to a given output format when saving.
- Apply some color correction (at the moment only gamma curve correction is possible).
Why Semi-Batched? Because SeBIE is not fully batch processing. A rest of user interaction is still needed (and wanted).
SeBIE is written in C using the gdk/gtk (glib-2.0.7/gtk+-2.0.9) toolkit.
Installation:
Get the source distribution from the download page and unpack:
tar -xvzf sebie-0.9.tar.gz
Change to the sebie source directory:
cd sebie-0.9
Run the configure script:
./configure
Build the executable:
make all
And install it as root:
make install
Start the application using the command sebie....
Enhancements:
- Add events delete_event and destroy to main window.
- Handling resizable drawing area.

Ghemical 2.10

Ghemical 2.10

Ghemical is a molecular modelling package with GUI and 3D-visualization tools. more>>
Ghemical is a computational chemistry software package released under the GNU GPL. It means that full source code of the package is available, and users are free to study and modify the package. Ghemical is written in C++.
Ghemical project has a graphical user interface (which is based on GNOME), and it supports both quantum-mechanics (semi-empirical and ab initio) models and molecular mechanics models (there is an experimental Tripos 5.2-like force field for organic molecules). Also a tool for reduced protein models [1] is included. Geometry optimization, molecular dynamics and a large set of visualization tools are currently available.
Ghemical relies on external code to provide the quantum-mechanical calculations. Semi-empirical methods MNDO, MINDO/3, AM1 and PM3 come from the MOPAC7 package (Public Domain), and are included in the source distribution.
The MPQC package (GNU GPL) is used to provide ab initio methods: the methods based on Hartree-Fock theory are currently supported with basis sets ranging from STO-3G to 6-31G**.
The MPQC code is not included in the source distribution. In order to use the MPQC-based ab initio methods in Ghemical, you must first compile and install the MPQC program for your system, and then compile Ghemical using some specific settings that link the programs together; see the INSTALL file for more information. Ghemical also contains the OpenBabel package for import and export of many different file formats (as well as other tasks).
Installation
Once you have downloaded the latest release, you should extract all files from your archive file using "tar -zxvvf ghemical-1.00.tgz" or equivalently "gunzip ghemical-1.00.tgz; tar -xvvf ghemical-1.00.tar". After that please read the "INSTALL"-file you just extracted to get additional information.
Enhancements:
- bug fixes

Geom 0.0.7

Geom 0.0.7

Geom is an interactive geometry application. more>>
Geom is an interactive geometry application.

Geometry application in the style of the Geometers Sketchpad or DrGeo.

Geom uses CCC as a canvas, which in turn uses Cairo. With the near deprecation of GNOME Canvas using any canvas that doesnt uses Cairo is a waste of time.

Right now, the project is in pre-alpha state, but you can start using it to play a little. You will need to download and install CCC; besides that, only Gtk+ and libglade are required.

If you dont want to use the bleeding edge, here I put two tarballs, one of CCC and another one of Geom. The CCC one is a modified version of mine (Im trying to help Sven in CCC, but hes busy and sometimes it takes time to get my patches in), and a semi working version of Geom.

If you find bugs in this version of CCC, dont bother Sven with them, they are probably my fault. And if you use the current git version of CCC, be warned that Geom segfaults with it.

syrinx 0.9

syrinx 0.9

Sysrinx is a semi-intelligent controller for mpg123 that features searching ID3 tags and random song selection. more>>
Sysrinx is a semi-intelligent controller for mpg123 that features searching ID3 tags and random song selection.
Here is how to setup:
First youll have to add you mp3s to the database, if you have all your mp3s in /mp3 you do this:
syrinx -U /mp3
This adds all files with a .mp3 extension recursively starting from /mp3. If you have more in other directories just specify the base for those when its finished adding the first ones.
Note: this may take a while if you have a lot of mp3s or a lot of other files stored above the base directory, also only mp3s with id3 tags will be added to the database as they are needed for searching. When you need to add more mp3s just use -U to add them, tracks which are already in the database will not be overwritten.
Use:
syrinx "search string" will play songs whose title, album name, or artist match the string you entered
-t "search string" will restrict the search to title
-a to album
-p to artist, and
-g to genre (note -g uses the genre names i.e. Classical, Metal, not the number)
syrinx -f will play random songs, but will play songs you listen to all the way through more, and songs you skip less. You can also specify a search string after -f so it will only play song from a certain subset.
To skip a song press ctrl-c, to exit press ctrl-c twice in quick succesion, like the operation of mpg123 on its own.
Enhancements:
- Song can only be linked once in mood play now

archivemail 0.7.0

archivemail 0.7.0

archivemail is an archiver and compressor for old email messages. more>>
archivemail is a tool written in Python for archiving and compressing old email in mailboxes. archivemail can move messages older than the specified number of days to a separate mbox format mailbox that is compressed with gzip, or optionally just delete old email.
Maybe some of your mailboxes are quite large (eg, over 10,000 messages) and they are taking a while to load in your mail reader. Perhaps they are taking up too much space on your disk. Archiving old messages to a separate, compressed mailbox will mean:
1. Your mail reader will get a huge performance boost loading and reading your mail.
2. You will be taking up less disk space, since old mail will be compressed. (Mail usually compresses quite nicely.)
3. You wont be confronted with semi-obsolete mail all the time.
If you would prefer to just delete old email rather than archive it, archivemail can do that too.
Main features:
- Support for archiving IMAP, mbox, MH and maildir format mailboxes.
- You can configure the amount of days before mail is considered old -- with the default being 180 days.
- Messages that are flagged important are not archived or deleted unless you specify the --include-flagged option.
- Optionally warn about duplicate Message-IDs in a mailbox.
- You can specify an option so that unread mail is never archived.
- Allows you to store the compressed archive mailboxes in a directory of your choice, with an extension of your choice.
- Support for deleting old mail rather than archiving it.
- Optional ability to archive messages older than an absolute date with the --date option.
- Ability to only archive messages over a certain byte size.

Realms of Rivalry

Realms of Rivalry

Realms of Rivalry is an online tactical rpg. more>>
Realms of Rivalry is an online tactical rpg. Play short skirmishes in random-generated game worlds.
The game can be summarized as an online graphical turn-based strategy/rpg game where you can play short tactical skirmishes with 2-4 players in small random-generated game worlds. The game is free and can be played either as an applet or downloadable client.
The time-limited turns (30-90 secs) give the game a semi-realtime feel, and the game has sometimes been characterized as "chess on steroids".
Main features:
- Community friendly game lobby where you can chat with others and join realms.
- Up to 4 players simultaneously battling on the same realm.
- Players control teams of 3 characters: Warrior, Archer and Mage.
- Time-limited turn-based gameplay.
- Random-generated game worlds (realms).
- CPU controlled monsters.
- Several weapons, armor, traps and other items.
- Occlusion calculation used in combat situations.
- Interrupts.
- Different types of terrain.
- Buy & sell items at vendors.
- Monster respawning.
- Ingame chat.
- Detailed end-of-game summary panel.
Explore the map and kill creatures to obtain weapons, potions, runes, traps and more to aid you in your quest for domination!
The game development has been very "test-driven" in the sense that the game quickly was made playable and that features and changes were added and removed continuously during development. This hopefully improves gameplay, but of course at the expense of dramatically increased development time.
Realms of rivalry was never intended to "soothe the masses", but were made entirely to match the game that we ourselves would like to play - something we have done for many, many hours :-) But of course, some of you might enjoy this game aswell, and that is why we decided to share it with you!.

WAusers 0.1

WAusers 0.1

WAusers is one component of the WAhelper Web accessibility testing suite. more>>
WAusers application is one component of the WAhelper Web accessibility testing suite.

WAusers serves for managing Web accessibility testing sites where users can register, create their own Web accessibility testing projects, and log into all their projects using a single global password.

Web pages are often designed without handicapped users in mind. Despite there exist Web accessibility guidelines such as W3C Accessibility Guidelines or U.S. Section 508 law, many Web designers are not aware about problems they cause to handicapped visitors of their pages. And even when a Web designer tries to make Web pages accessible, he may not be aware about all the obstacles handicapped users can meet.

- Software tools can be helpful here. Several Web accessibility checking tools already exist, but they have various problems:
Most of them are non-free and you cant use them freely to evaluate accessibility of your website effectively. Making things accessible means removing barriers and it is important to make the barriers as low as possible.
- New tests usually cant be added easily. An easily extensible and freely modifiable tool is needed so that its features can be improved efficiently. A good and maintained tool can make the whole process of making Web pages accessible more effective.
- The tools often dont try to go beyond semi-automated tests. But there are many accessibility problems which cant be detected, diagnosed and reported without human assistance. A tool helping humans with the testing process is needed.

browser-history 2.8

browser-history 2.8

Browser-history is a small and efficient daemon that keeps your browser history, independent of the browser you use. more>>
Browser-history is a small and efficient daemon that keeps your browser history, independent of the browser you use.
Browser-history came from the will to overcome a Netscape bug: there was no global history, and if you close a window, its whole history is lost. For people browsing lots of sites, having a possibility to track back where one has been before means that you dont have to put everything in your bookmarks file. If you are not sure if a site may be worth remebering, dont add it in your bookmarks. If you need it later, just browse your history files.
Later, it came to our minds that this also could be a valuable add-on to people writing experimental browsers, so they dont have to add this functionality to their browser itself, and to users able thus to track their web history regardless of the browser they used.
Browser-history is a small and efficient daemon. Real user services could be built on top of the log files it maintains for more possibilities (graphical representation, advanced search options, collective histories). It can be seen as a quick-and-dirty hack wrt to the general solution of using a personal proxy to provide this history and housekeeping facilities. For now, it is easy to use and it works very good.
And now that Netscape has a semi-decent history, browser-history is still valuable, as it is difficult to search in the netscape history, its file format is not defined, and entries expire after some time.
Enhancements:
- bugfix: since 2.6, internal links of default generated headers were false

jSVR 0.5 Beta

jSVR 0.5 Beta

jSVR is a java implementation of a semi-automatic process for identifying and exporting three-dimensional information. more>>
jSVR is a java implementation of a semi-automatic process for identifying and exporting three-dimensional information from a single un-calibrated image. The project is based on previous publications of A. Criminisi, A. Zisserman and others. svrIn the section "svr theory" there is a brief presentation of the principals behind single view reconstruction, using perspective information of an image.

jSVR was originally developed as my degree project in the computer science department of the university of Crete, in 2004. Most of the initial work was done in the CVRL lab of ics-forth, under the supervision of professors A. Argyros and M. Lourakis. Many documents in this site come from my report on svr, and where initially converted from latex using latex2html and then modified. If you find any broken links or other problems please let me know.

I recently decided to try and continue that work, as an open source project.

Single View reconstruction is a technique that can have various applications in different areas of interest. From acquiring metric information from low quality images, to reconstructing scenes from paintings. The process of reconstructing an image is semi-automated and can be really tricky for the user, who is requested to define and/or fine tune a set of difficult to understand parameters, (see the "svr theory" section for some examples).

Depending on the goal, the demands to the reconstruction technique differ. In the original work the goal was to test the proposed methodology in the relevant literature and to implement the techniques into an application that could reconstruct an image. The new goal of svr is to provide a user-friendly and intuitive way for reconstructing images, as well as to improve the existing implementation to produce better results. Determining the correct vanishing points with an automatic algorithm would be a great improvement to the whole process.

One step towards this direction would be an MLE estimation for the best intersection point. Also it is probable that suitable heuristics could be used to exclude intersections (false vanishing points) in areas that vanishing points are not expected (i.e. the center of the image). In order to exclude as many false VP detections as possible, appropriate filters could be applied on the image before the reconstruction (i.e. noise reduction, removing the radial distortion, and sharpen edges).

The phase of manual reconstruction could also be made semi-automatic by implementing object identification algorithms. This would help by automatically identifying the bigger structures in the image (i.e the vertical planes). In addition smaller structures can be interactively traced. This would also allow better texture extraction from the objects in the image.
