SURVIVOR is yet another systems monitor.
Does the world need yet another systems monitor? Well, the world has had the Backstreet Boys, N Sync, 98 Degrees, Take That, Boyzone, Westlife, 5ive, O-Town, not to mention New Kids on the Block, All-4-One, Boyz II Men, New Edition, and Menudo, so clearly there is an ability to accept and even appreciate redundancy. Not that one needs to appreciate boy bands to appreciate systems monitoring, and perhaps now would be a good time to underscore that the SURVIVOR project does not endorse or even listen to boy bands.
Differentiating systems monitors can be a lot like differentiating boy bands. At first glance, they all look alike. With careful study, however, they all still look alike, except that some have goatees and others dont. With further study, it is possible to detect different accents, but no matter how far you look you still have a boy band.
In this respect, SURVIVOR is a lot like other systems monitors. It was written because of requirements that dictated the equivalent of a boy band with two Americans, two Brits, and an Australian, two with goatees, three brunettes, and not all of them living in the same town in Florida.
Unlike most boy bands, the core of SURVIVOR is a POSIX-thread based scheduler, responsible for determining when services should be checked and when alerts should be transmitted. The scheduler should be highly scalable, although it has not yet been tested against an entire class B network.
Like almost every other package, check and alert modules may be written in any language. These modules should generally scale quite well, although specifics depend on what the module actually does.
A command line interface, web interface, and two-way messaging gateway are provided.
Unlike most boy bands, SURVIVOR is intended to be a very high quality, feature rich, package. It is unlikely to ever get airtime on TRL.
Enhancements:
- In addition to the usual bugfixes, this stabilization release adds five new check modules, a flap reporting module, and adds various improvements to the command and Web interfaces.
- This is the first release with accompanying RPMs.

Tvheadend 2.4 brings users the convenience of a streaming server/relay which supports a variety of sources and multiple output formats.
Tvheadend is initially intended to be used for receiving TV (DVB, Analog, IPTV) and to transmit it using a number of different output formats to subscribers. Together with powerful DVR (Digital Video Recorder) features, an advanced EPG and a web-interface it can be used as a TV distribution hub in your home.

This is a collection of scripts which is used to manage the creation of Slackware packages. This framework is designed to make it easy to add packages to the collection and to easily tweak package parameters for testing and deployment.
The framework currently has a lot of parameters, and also has basic frameworks for CPAN packages. It is possible to add more frameworks and tweaks for other package networks as well, such as the PHP and Python archives, and these are in the works currently.
Enhancements:
- This marks the start of the new style of build scripts. These are much more modular, and have a consistent set of shell functions and variables which work in their defaults for most situations, and can be redefined by a package file to do special setup or other functions
- which some packages may require.

Sman is the Searcher for Man pages. Based on the example of the same name in Josh Rabinowitzs article "How To Index Anything" in the July, 2003 issue of Linux Journal (http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6652), sman is an enhanced version of apropos and man -k. Sman project adds several key abilities over its predecessors:
- Supports complex natural language text searches such as "(linux and kernel) or (mach and microkernel)"
- Shows results in a ranked order, and optionally an extract (using -e) of the manpage showing the searched text highlighted
- Allows for searches by manpage section, title, body, or filename (use metaname=searchword)
- Indexes the complete contents of the man page, not just the title and description
- Uses a prebuilt index to perform fast searches
- Performs stemming so that a search for "searches" will match a document with the word "searching"

Random Phase Music Generator is a small program that generates random phase music. Random music has been around for a long time (from Mozarts musical dice game to John Cages chance music), but phase music was invented rather recently by Steve Reich.

It would be interesting to combine those ideas, so I have written this program as a tool for further experiments. Type xmkmf and then make to compile the program. LessTif users, replace xmkmf with mxmkmf.

If your xmkmf is broken, you have to install manually. Edit Makefile.man (examples for Solaris, AIX and LessTif are provided). Make sure INCS and LIBS are linking to the correct directories, then type make -f Makefile.man to compile.

Run phase from an X terminal. Some users might need to point LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the Motif libraries. After starting up the program, you can use the File menu to load or save the panel settings, and the Music menu to play the generated phase music or save it to a MIDI file.

PPPOEd is PPP-over-Ethernet implementation.

Story:

A long time ago....

.. a dragon named Bolgrot arrived in the eternal Province of Amakna. The young Rykke Errel was the only one to be courageous enough to face the terrible creature.
Instead of reducing him to dust as it could easily have done it, the dragon bowed down before the young knight and swore loyalty to him.

Months passed by...

Rykke met Helsephine, a young enchantress, and fell madly in love with her. When he introduced Helsephine to Bolgrot, Rykke would never have guessed what was about to happen.
The dragon, mad with rage, killed the sweet Helsephine and flew away, destroying everything on its way.
Rykke chased the dragon. When he found it, the old friends confronted each other in a titanic fight. Using his weapons and his magic, Rykke succeeded to bring Bolgrot down. But fatally injured, the young hero died short after.

Looking for an explanation...

... about the sudden violence of Bolgrot, the wise men of Amakna discovered within the entrails of the dragon six unusually colored eggs that were called DOFUS. Later on, it was discovered that when these eggs were reunited their power was absolute.

Absolute, but also unstable. The wise men decided to conceal those terrible relics from the rest of the world.

During the following centuries,

the secret of the existence of the DOFUS was so well kept that people eventually forgot all about them. But a cursed day among others, the guardians of the secret discovered that the DOFUS had disappeared. The news quickly spread, arousing terror and covetousness.

It didnt take long for adventurers to show up in Amakna, attracted by the prospect of glory or plunder. The destiny of Amakna was from then on uncertain and the appearance of numerous creatures as terrifying as theyre unknown added to the confusion.
