screensaverpauser is an Amarok script that pauses Amarok on activating the KDE screensaver.

Actually this always works, if your screen is locked.

AmarokScreenSaver is an Amarok script which displays information about the currently playing song as a screensaver.

I often use my computer to play music when I am having visitors or when I am just not in front of the monitor. I wanted some way to still be able to see what song was playing. As my TV is connected to the computer I decided to make a screensaver that would do just this. (you dont need to even own a TV to use this script, but my TV is in my living room and my computer is not...)

This script creates an image based on the currently playing song in Amarok, then changes your screensaver to KSlideshow and tells it to display this particular image. It restores your original screensaver settings when you stop the script or exit Amarok.

The script has some basic settings configurable via a dialog:

Party / safe - mode:

The script can be configured to lock the screensaver, you will need your password to return to the desktop. This is great if you are having a party and dont want everybody to use the computer for surfing or changing track every other minute.

DPMS:

I use display power management to turn off my monitor after a given period of time. This did not work well with my idea. Therefore I created an option to turn off DPMS, and turning it back on when the script is exited or Amarok is shut down.

Rotate image placement:

To prevent damage to the screen more than one image (three) can be created and the screensaver will randomly display these images.

Simple terminal screensaver (or tss for short) is an attempt to clone and enhance FreeBSDs daemon saver.
Although intended for GNU/Linux, it works fine under FreeBSD and probably a lot of other Unix-based Operating Systems.

kannasaver is a screensaver for people who want to learn japanese. The idea is that by randomly shoving hiragana or katakana at you, together with the romaji transcript, they start to stick to your memory after a while.
Inspired by a windows screensaver that does exactly the same, which sits an www.thejapanesepage.com for free.
Dependencies: Other than KDE 3.3, you need to have soft-scalable (truetype) fonts that contain the japanese characters. Google for the mikachan font set if anything else fails.
Enhancements:
- a few composite katakana were wrong; corrected.

Kanjisaver is a screensaver that displays characters from a set of those commonly found on the JLPT, the Japanese Language Profiency Test. Kanjisaver can also display the on and kun readings of the kanji as well as their English meanings.
You should install a font with Japanese character support before using Kanjisaver.
You might also be interested in Kannasaver, which is also available here on KDE-Apps.org, and upon which Kanjisaver is based.

SmoothSlideSaver is a KDE screensaver which shows images from a directory as an OpenGL slideshow. SmoothSlideSaver screensaver uses the famous Ken Burns effect and smoothly fades from one image to the next.

You dont need to worry about complicated configuration options, everything should run smoothly out of the box. Just select a directory with some nice pictures (e.g., your digital photo collection) and let the show begin.

There are prebuilt packages for Debian and Ubuntu (i386 architecture, only). You can either download them via the links below, or more conveniently, apt-get them:

Put one of the following lines into your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

Then do the usual steps to install the package:

If you have another Debian based distribution and/or architecture (or if the unstable packages cant be installed), you can easily build your own package. Add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb-src http://web.inf.tu-dresden.de/~cw183155/smoothslidesaver source/

Then execute the following commands:

#> apt-get update
#> mkdir smoothslidesaver
#> cd smoothslidesaver
#> apt-get build-dep smoothslidesaver
#> apt-get source --compile smoothslidesaver
#> dpkg -i smoothslidesaver_*.deb

If you have another distribution installed on your computer, you will have to do it the hard way, sorry :-/ Download the source tarball from the link below, untar it and then execute the following steps in the source directory:

#> ./configure
#> make
#> make install
