PloneNewsLetter provides a product for sending newsletters based on new Plone content to an email address in TXT or HTML format.
PloneNewsLetter gives you the possibility to create your custom newsletters. The newsletter is prepared for being sent using your favourite mass mailer, and can be directly published on your site.
The process of creating your PloneNewsLetter:
- You create a new PloneNewsLetter
- Using PloneNewsLetter, you search your Plone site for content
- You select the documents that you want to make it into the newsletter
- You can click on the "create" button, and an html and text version of the newsletter are created.
- The html and text versions can now be edited and viewed quickly in a preview window.
- Once you are satisfied with the result, you can send the newsletter to your email address.
- You can use your favourite mass mailer to distribute the newsletter Features:
- The templates used for production of the newsletter are fully customizable.
- The selection of objects for the newsletter is remembered, so you dont have to reselect everything just because you changed the templates.
- If the user publishes the newsletters content, all users will see the HTML version of the newsletter. That way the the newsletter is automatically archived online.
- PloneNewsLetter consists of two object:
- A content type, for users
- A Portal Tool, for settings

Online Grades is the leading free-software project that allows K-12+ student grades to be posted onto a dynamic web site. Online Grades is not a web-based gradebook. Instead, it accepts grade export information from several popular gradebook software programs such as Easy Grade Pro, Gradekeeper, Misty Citys Grade Machine, and PGGP and places the grade information online securely.
Student, Teachers, Parents, and Administrators each get their own personal login into Online Grades, which allows them to see all of the grades in all of their classes. If parents have more than one student at a school or district, they only need one parent login to see the grades of all of their students.
The Online Grades software is free; there is no software cost to post your grade results online. However, to use the software, both an internet-accessible web server with PHP and access to a MySQL database are necessary. Because of these requirements, Online Grades is commonly set up and configured by a school or district tech person. If your school or district does not have the resources to set up Online Grades, you can alternatively buy hosting for your grades. Hosting is even available for individual teachers interested in using Online Grades.
Online Grades is free because the software is developed by volunteers and is in-part sponsored by the schools using the Online Grades software. Online Grades was originally based on the SourceForge project Basmati, and while backward compatibility has been maintained, Online Grades has many more features than the original Basmati grade posting software.

Enhancements:
- This release incorporates several bugfixes and adds a few new minor features.
- There are no database changes this release, so upgrading consists only of upgrading the files on your server to the new versions.
- A bug which caused all interfaces to go offline when the student area is set to be offline was fixed.
- The bug which prevented faculty from changing their password was fixed.

Skolelinux, Debian and all auxiliary software components we use are free software ? free as in freedom. The term "free software" implies the following rights:
- Freedom to use the software regardless of purpose and adapt it to ones needs.
- Freedom to study how the software works.
- Freedom to redistribute the software so ones neighbour can benefit from it.
- Freedom to modify and enhance the software and publish those modifications so everyone benefits from them.
These rights form the foundation of both Debian, Skolelinux and all the software we use. They enable us to use the various software components, put them together in our specialized network design and package and redistribute the software as "Skolelinux".
With proprietary software, such as Microsoft Windows, all adaptions and modifications have to be redone everywhere. With Skolelinux, modifications and enhancements done by a school in Norway may benefit schools in Eritrea ? and vice versa. Windows is the most commonly used operative system used in schools today, but as Windows is proprietary software, it is not possible to tailor Windows for school usage and call it "SkoleWindows".
Skolelinux (aka debian-edu) is a Custom Debian Distribution. This means that Skolelinux is a version of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system that is customized for schools. Debian is a state-of-the-art, user-friendly operating system. The goal of our customization of Debian is to make it easy to install and maintain for schools. ? with all applications available in the students mother tongue.
Despite how easy Skolelinux is to install, asking only a handful of (non-technical) questions, it is an advanced network solution, with many pre-configured services. With ordinary, closed, proprietary software, these services have to be configured manually for every single school ? and that needs careful planning and expertise!
Amongst several pre-configured services are the following:
- Central user catalogue: One username and one password for several machines and services.
- Central storage: Regardless of which machine you use in a Skolelinux network, you have access to your files and meet an interface with your settings ? an interface you are familiar with.
- Thin client solution: The applications are run on a thin client server, which is a powerful machine. The image from those applications is drawn on a "thin client", which usually is an old and cheap machine. This enables you to use old hardware. Moreover, it eases administration, as you have one server to maintain.
- Printers may be shared and made available in the network.
- A proxy server caches files downloaded from the Internet, resulting in a faster surfing experience.
Enhancements:
- This is a community release with comprehensive support from regional and national projects in Germany, Spain, France, Greece and Norway. The Skolelinux project is now a part of Debian under the name Debian-Edu. Several other projects have made additional functionality to Skolelinux tailored for national needs.
