matrix_saver is a console screen saver for FreeBSD. It is based on Chris Allegrettas "cmatrix" which, in turn, was based on the "code" effect in the movie "The Matrix."

The net effect is a cross between a code listing and rain falling on a window pane.

Installation:

Build it:

cd /usr/src/sys/modules/syscons/matrix
make
make install

Edit /etc/rc.conf and add

saver="matrix"

or replace the current value if one is already set.

In FreeBSD 3.1+ "blanktime" is set to 300 seconds in /etc/defaults/rc.conf. If you want to change this then override blanktime in /etc/rc.conf. You can also adjust it with vidcontrol
as root, f.e.

vidcontrol -t 30

would set it to 30 seconds.

Now either reboot, or load the screen saver manually.

To install it manually:

- Use kldstat to get the ID of your current screen saver.
- Use kldunload -i to unload it; is the ID that you found in the previous step.
- Install matrix_saver: kldload matrix_saver.ko (or look for "saver" in /etc/rc.i386, and do what it does)

Backgroundimage Saver is a Firefox extension that provides help for an annoying technique that can be found on more and more pages. That is to hide images behind a transparent gif to protect them against being saved.

Examplepages that use this can be found at:

print.google.com (just try to save any bookpage that is displayed after selecting a book)

www.imdb.com (same here with any larger images that are displayed)

Because since these pages place a transparent gif on top of the real graphic you cant just right-click an image and select "Save Image As..." because then you would just save the transparent gif (which is probably not what you want.

So this simple extension just adds a Save Background Image option to the right click context menu which does the trick.

Furthermore it is helpful if you want to be able to directly save the backgroundimage, since Firefox does not offer this option by default.

Simple terminal screensaver (or tss for short) is an attempt to clone and enhance FreeBSDs daemon saver.
Although intended for GNU/Linux, it works fine under FreeBSD and probably a lot of other Unix-based Operating Systems.

Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. The project is intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires a password to unlock them all.

With synergy, all the computers on your desktop form a single virtual screen. You use the mouse and keyboard of only one of the computers while you use all of the monitors on all of the computers. You tell synergy how many screens you have and their positions relative to one another. Synergy then detects when the mouse moves off the edge of a screen and jumps it instantly to the neighboring screen. The keyboard works normally on each screen; input goes to whichever screen has the cursor.

In this example, the user is moving the mouse from left to right. When the cursor reaches the right edge of the left screen it jumps instantly to the left edge of the right screen.

You can arrange screens side-by-side, above and below one another, or any combination. You can even have a screen jump to the opposite edge of itself. Synergy also understands multiple screens attached to the same computer.
Running a game and dont want synergy to jump screens? No problem. Just toggle Scroll Lock. Synergy keeps the cursor on the same screen when Scroll Lock is on. (This can be configured to another hot key.)

Do you wish you could cut and paste between computers? Now you can! Just copy text, HTML, or an image as you normally would on one screen then switch to another screen and paste it. Its as if all your computers shared a single clipboard (and separate primary selection for you X11 users). It even converts newlines to each computers native form so cut and paste between different operating systems works seamlessly. And it does it all in Unicode so any text can be copied.
