Free satellite view of my house software for linux

Satellite can track many remote machines with dynamic IP addresses in situations where public DNS services are inappropriate. Satellite can log and alert an admin immediately when a site comes online or needs attention.
The Satellite archive also includes an RPM spec file. RPM users can build a binary package ready to install by running:
rpm -tb satellite-1.0.2.tar.gz
You will find the binary rpm under /usr/src/rpm/RPMS/i386 or /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386.
Reasons for Satellite
Public DNS services are often used to track clients with changing IP addresses, but DNS solutions suffer from several problems:
Failure
Public DNS servers regularly fail due to overloading and system administration problems.
No notification
There is no notification when a system goes online. Instead you must poll DNS regularly to see when a system comes online.
Latency
Updating can take from several minutes to several hours before the change is made public. On systems with small idle timeouts it is often impossible to find the current IP address via DNS.
No history
Public DNS services only keep track of the current address and dont record past times or changes in a central location.

Cache View is an extension which displays Googles Cache, Corals Cache, Wayback Machines Cache and more.

Displays Googles Cache, Corals Cache, Wayback Machines Cache, Dot Cache, Tech Gurus Cache, and Cachebins cache of the current tab open via right-click or Tools menu.

This was made so that if the site is down in any way, especially the Digg effect and Slashdot effect, you can hopefully view it.

Since I am the person who manages the money for our house, I need an efficient way to keep track of our expenses and an easy way to calculate who owes what to whom at the end of the month. There are lots of good free software utilities for managing money like GnuCash, KMyMoney and the wonderful Gnumeric spreadsheet. I had been using Gnumeric to manage the money for the last 8 months, but now that we have some people staying at the house for just the summer, and other leaving and coming back in September, the spreadsheet was not able to adjust to these irregular circumstances.

The reason I decided to write my own application from scratch instead of using an already existing money management application was because my problem is multi-person orientation and most (if not all) of the money management programs I have tried are single-person oriented. For example GnuCash will let you setup accounts that show you all the money moving to and from a single person. But in my house things like food are paid by any person and shared by every other person. Thus to efficiently and easily calculate who owes how much, it must take into account the fact that one pizza may be paid for by one person, but it was eaten by 4 people. Also I dont want to have to divide up the amounts myself and put it into GnuCash with multiple accounts, because then I might as well be doing it on paper.

I could have spent my time learning to make an already existing application do exactly what I want; and I probably would have found something pretty close. But I decided that it would be faster to just program it from scratch and then I would be sure I would get exactly what I wanted. I think I was right; it took less then 2 weeks to finished writing this program.

The program is currently called Adventure Money, but if anyone can think of a better name for it let me know and Ill gladly change it.

When you first launch the program you will see it has five views, all of which can be seen in the screenshots below.

Template::Manual::Views is a template toolkit views (experimental).

This section describes dynamic views: a powerful but experimental new feature in version 2.01 of the Template Toolkit.

A view is effectively a collection of templates and/or variable definitions which can be passed around as a self-contained unit. This then represents a particular interface or presentation style for other objects or items of data.

You can use views to implement custom "skins" for an application or content set. You can use them to help simplify the presentation of common objects or data types. You can even use then to automate the presentation of complex data structures such as that generated in an XML::DOM tree or similar. You let an iterator do the walking, and the view does the talking (or in this case, the presenting). Voila - you have view independant, structure shy traversal using templates.

In general, views can be used in a number of different ways to achieve several different things. They elegantly solve some problems which were otherwise difficult or complicated, and make easy some things that were previously hard.

At the moment, theyre still very experimental. The directive syntax and underlying API are likely to change quite considerably over the next version or two. Please be very wary about building your multi-million dollar e-commerce solutions based around this feature.

Maypole::Manual::View is a Perl module for Maypole View Classes.

In a large application, you will almost certainly want to customize the layout and design of the output pages. This task may even be the purview of a separate team of HTML designers rather than the programmers. Since a typical programmer will try to avoid touching HTML as much as possible and a typical designer will try to avoid touching Perl code, programmers have evolved a system of templating to separate the concerns of programming and designing.

One of the core concepts in Maypole is the view class, and this is responsible for routing the data produced in the model class into the templates produced by the designers. Of course, there are a great many possible templating systems and styles, and so there can be a great many possible Maypole view classes. Each view class will take the data from the controller, locate a template to be processed, and hand the whole lot to its preferred templating module, which will then do the hard work of filling in the template and coming up with the output.

You can choose whatever Maypole view class you want, but the default view class is Maypole::View::TT, and it feeds its data and templates to a module called the Template Toolkit.

1. How much you can afford to put down
2. If youll be able to afford the monthly costs (its not just the loan youll be paying for)
3. A pretty good estimate of your utility costs (water, electricity, heating, etc.)
4. A full amortization report on your loan for each year youll be paying it. Youll want to print that out!

Its good to generate a report for each house youre considering getting a loan for. Then print out the report so you can compare and contrast them.
