SANE 1.0.18

SANE 1.0.18

SANE is a tool to access to raster image scanner hardware. more>>
SANE comes from "Scanner Access Now Easy" and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, handheld scanner, video and still cameras, framegrabbers, etc.).

The SANE standard is public domain and its discussion and development are open to everybody. The source code is written for UNIX (including Linux) and is available under the GPL, but commercial applications and backends are welcome.

The package contains the libraries, net support, and scanimage. The X frontends xscanimage and xcam can be found in sane-frontends.

XSane 0.994

XSane 0.994

XSane is a GTK-based X11 frontend for SANE, also a GIMP plugin. more>>
XSane is a graphical scanning frontend. XSane uses the SANE-library to talk to scanners. This means that XSane does not support any scanners itself.
If you have any problems or questions that are related to your scanner then please contact the author of the sane-backend that supports your scanner or for general questions contact the SANE mailinglist. Here you can find out which scanners are supported by the SANE-library.
XSane is designed for acquiring images with scanners (there are other devices like cameras and videodevices supported by SANE, but XSane is not designed for that purpose).
You can scan to file, do a photocopy, create a fax, create and send a mail and start XSane from the GIMP as gimp plug in.
Enhancements:
- Black point compensation was added to the printer setup dialog.
- A PostScript bug was corrected.
- Several bugs in the color ICM profile handling were fixed.

SaneWidget 0.1.0

SaneWidget 0.1.0

SaneWidget project is an image scanning application (frontend to sane), with hopefully a sane user interface. more>>
SaneWidget project is an image scanning application (frontend to sane), with hopefully a sane user interface. SaneWidget is also an example of how one can use libsanewidget.

libsanewidget is a Qt4-based library that provides a widget, containing sane options and a preview area. The application only needs to create a sanewidget-widget and connect some signals to get a notification of when an image is ready to be retrieved.

The source package contains both the library and the application.

To compile the library:

] cd /path/to/libsanewidget
] mkdir build
] cd build

] cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr ../
] make
] sudo make install

To compile the application:

] cd /path/to/sanewidget
] qmake-qt4 INSTALLBASE=/usr
] make
] sudo make install

It is also possible to install Kubuntu Feisty packages with apt-get:

Download and add my authentication key to authenticate the packages:

] wget http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/kare_sars_pub.gpg
] sudo apt-key add kare_sars_pub.gpg

Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/ubuntu-debs ./
deb-src http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/ubuntu-debs ./

Update the packags list and install...:

] sudo apt-get update
] sudo apt-get install sanewidget

Sanetracker 1.0.0

Sanetracker 1.0.0

Sanetracker is a pattern based MIDI sequencer. more>>
Sanetracker is a pattern based MIDI sequencer. In December 2002 it became a part of the KDE project, so SourceForge will only be used for web for now (and not CVS).
The current version of Sanetracker can use raw MIDI devices (OSS/Free) and the ALSA sequencer, thus supporting virtually all sound cards having a driver for Linux. Getting high precision timers to work under Linux (necessary for synchronizing synthesizers) is hard, so currently you need an external clock to use Sanetracker.
Cakewalk Instrument Defintion files are used for instrument definitions. If you dont have such files for all of your synths, patch selection will become difficult. Sanetracker will download instruments from an online database on request, but you might need to use Google to find the ones you need.
Song files are stored in Standard MIDI Format (SMF), also known as .mid-files. SMF is extendable, and almost all MIDI applications support it, so theres no reason not to use it.
Install:
- vim Makefile (edit CONFIG_*, which is your include dirs)
- make dep
- make all
- cp sane
- mkdir ~/.sanetracker/
- cp config.xml ~/.sanetracker/
- vim ~/.sanetracker/config.xml
Usage:
./sane MySong.xml.gz
The file will be created if it doesnt exist.

Arachne 0.32

Arachne 0.32

Arachne project is a Perl-driven adventure and RPG game. more>>
Arachne project is a Perl-driven adventure and RPG game.
Arachne is a RPG game written on top of the Shadowed Horizons framework. It aims to make it possible for novice programmers to learn as they go, and for more experienced programmers to contribute their experience to a versatile and interesting gaming concept.
It is currently being managed by the Shadowed Horizons development team, but is seeking new developers to maintain the day to day development operations. We are looking for individuals who would like to create their own game using our libraries and utilities to serve as the application framework.
Because we are writing a framework that will allow novice programmers to write a game of their own, we strongly encourage anyone who has the desire to work on this project to contact us. Experts may be more comfortable and also of more help if they work on our Shadowed Horizons framework project, but anyone is welcome to begin working on Arachne, which will showcase the creativity that can be acchieved through our powerful but intuitive gaming engine.
This game is currently in its planning stages, but will be actively developed in the near future. The faster we gain assistance, the faster the project will become active. Nevertheless, we will eventually get it up and running, even without the addition of new developers, but that may take some time.
Enhancements:
- Arachne has now developed a saner version numbering scheme.
- Everything in Engine.pm was basically moved to Char.pm to improve organization.
- There are still lots of annoying warnings that Perl throws all the time.
- Ugly/stupid things were changed.
- Stupid and/or redundant stuff has been largely eliminated.
- The character stat screens have been fixed up and now look a little bit nicer.
- The code has been cleaned up a little but is still really kludgy

Santa Fe Linux CTR3

Santa Fe Desktop Linux is an easy to use desktop operating system. more>>
Santa Fe Desktop Linux is an easy to use desktop operating system. It puts some of the worlds best open source applications within the reach of non-technical users. It even runs right off the CD so you can try it without installing.
Santa Fe Desktop Linux was built following these design goals:
Make it familiar. Present the user a familiar interface where they dont have to guess which buttons do what.
Keep it small. The distribution should install and run from a single CD.
Make it useful to normal users. The distribution should be useful to a large non-technical audience.
Keep it fun. Make sure audio and video work to the best of their abilities so the users can play games and enjoy multimedia without hassle.
Leave the user alone. Hardware should always be automatically detected and configured without the users help. Software configuration should automatically have sane defaults.
Unlike other operating systems, Santa Fe is designed to automatically configure itself everytime it runs. It will auto-detect the right drivers for your hardware and configure it all to the best of its abilities. No more troublesome driver installs. Santa Fe works best in Plug and Play and DHCP environments.
Main features:
- A viable alternative to your current operating system (OS).
- Imagine if your OS came preinstalled with a fully featured photo editing and image creation program.
- Imagine if every OS included an animation and 3D graphics creation program.

KScannerButtons 0.9.5

KScannerButtons 0.9.5

KScannerButtons is a daemon plus a KDE application for monitoring your scanner buttons. more>>
KScannerButtons is a daemon plus a KDE application for monitoring your scanner buttons:

Perform a copy with one button press,
Send a paper document via email,
Open a paper document in gimp with one button press...

Its composed of a daemon (sanebuttond) and a frontend that will display an icon in the systray and a dialog box to configure and launch the daemon, KScannerButtons.kmdr.

KScannerButtons is based on the button monitoring capabilities found in some SANE backends. It has been tested with the avision backend, and a HP 5300C scanner. I read on some mailing lists that the fujitsu backend may also support buttons monitoring (but never tested).

The daemon may be used outside of the KDE environment (I should release it separately).

xchat-gnome 0.18

xchat-gnome 0.18

xchat-gnome is a new frontend to the popular X-Chat IRC client. more>>
Historically, the OSS desktop has been steadily improving in usability, accessibility, and general slickness, yet the world of IRC clients has not kept up. With IRC being one of the fundamental methods of communication within the open source community, it is bizzare that this area has been neglected.
GNOMEs philosophy in terms of user interfaces has been progressing towards presenting the user with few options, yet sane defaults. While many of the normal X-Chat options will be preserved inside GConf, only the most common settings will be included in the main user interface. The GTK+ frontend provides excessive customizability, with options scattered throughout the interface. This leads to an inconsistent user experience, confusion, and general clutter.
One thing to note is that this project is still extremely young. As such, at the moment is is not extremely trivial to build, run or debug. If anyone is interested in helping out, stop by #xchat-gnome on irc.freenode.net
Enhancements:
- This release has a few important bug fixes.
