IRC-Chess 0.1
IRC-Chess project is a 2-player chess game for IRC which turns a computer into an IRC chess bot. more>>
IRC-Chess project is a 2-player chess game for IRC which turns a computer into an IRC chess bot.
It consists of a Java chess server, with frontend scripts to convert an IRC client into a chess bot. Players then communicate with the bot using standard IRC commands, and dont require any special software to play.
Frontend scripts are available for IRSSI and X-Chat.
The client is merely responsible for interpreting this data and displaying it. In this way, porting the system to a variety of IRC clients is very simple, since
the client script will be short, and effectively contain no code specific to the game being played.
In other words, the Java part is smart. The script is dumb and is just there to make things look pretty.
This idea works. Currently, client scripts have been designed for RSSI and XChat. Since both these programs use Perl for scripting, the scripts are practically identical, with a few client specific modifications.
Porting this script to other IRC clients shouldnt be too much of a hassle, since its just the frontend thats ported, not the chess game itself. Anyone wanting to create frontend scripts for other IRC clients, please feel free to do so.
The PROTOCOL file describes exactly what needs to be done.

SimpleDBM 0.58
SimpleDBM projects goal is to build a Relational Database Manager in Java. more>>
SimpleDBM projects goal is to build a Relational Database Manager in Java. The planned features include support for:
Transactions
Write Ahead Log
Multiple Isolation Levels
BTree Indexes
Entry Level SQL-92
System Catalogs
A distinguishing feature of the project is that the DBMS is being built in a modular fashion. The aim is ensure that each module is usable on its own ; for example, the Lock Manager or the Log Manager modules can be used on their own even if the rest of the system is not of interest.
There will be two major sub-systems in the dbms backend. The Data Manager subsystem is named RSS, and is responsible for implementing transactions, locking, tuple management, and index management. This sub-system is currently under development.
The second major sub-system will be called SQL Manager. Its job will be to parse SQL statements, produce optimum execution plans, and execute the SQL statements. Development of this sub-system is expected to start sometime in 2006.
SimpleDBM is being built in Java 5.0 and will use new features such as java.util.concurrent package and Generics available in this version of Java. SimpleDBM will not be compatible with previous versions of Java.

Postfix-policy 0.0.2
Postfix-policy is a policy server that uses ServerKit to achieve a high level of performance and scalability for Postfix servers more>>
Postfix-policy is a policy server that uses ServerKit to achieve a high level of performance and scalability for Postfix servers.
This project is ideal for use with large mail systems utilizing Postfix for MX duties and MySQL for the management of accounts with basic policy needs.
Usage:
It is advised that you read the ServerKit documentation before trying to use this module, as most of the basic usage is simply using ServerKit, nothing specific to this module.
You will probably want to use the included ServerKit personality as a starting point, found in the source archive as a directory named "personality". Within the personality you will find a "c11n" file, a "modules" subdirectory, and a "svsdir" subdirectory.
The "c11n" file is a ServerKit configuration file, you will need to at least modify the database settings so ServerKit can successfully communicate with your database system. Another configuration value that you will definitely have to set is "action_query_format_string".
The "action_query_format_string" is the SQL query postfix-policy will use to retrieve an action to send back to Postfix in response to policy delegation requests. See the Configuration section for a list of supported substitutions for use in the format string.
You are responsible for creating a query that is compatible with your mail system database schema, and ensuring that the query will:
1. return an empty set for invalid recipients
2. return a valid action string when not returning an empty set
For an explanation of valid policy action responses, see the access(5) manual reference from Postfix, youre interested in the *ACTIONS sections

Transcode 1.0.3
Transcode is a suite of command line utilities for transcoding video and audio codecs. more>>
Transcode is a suite of command line utilities for transcoding video and audio codecs, and for converting beween different container formats. Transcode can decode and encode many audio and video formats, e.g.
- MPEG-1/2
- MPEG-4(-part 3) (also DivX and XviD variants)
- Quicktime / MPEG-PS (dvd) (decode only)
- MPEG-1-layer-1/2/3 audio
- AC3 audio
Transcode has a variety of video and audio pre and post-processing filters, including (but not limited to):
- video de-interlacing
- audio resampling
- framerate conversion
- smoothing
- cutting
Transcode can import DVDs on-the-fly, or record from Video4Linux (including V4L2 video capturing) devices.
A number of modules are included to enable import of DVDs on-the-fly, Video4Linux (including V4L2 video capturing), MPEG elementary streams (ES) or program streams (VOB), MPEG1/2/4 video, Digital Video (DV), YUV4MPEG streams, Nuppel Video (NUV), quicktime (MOV), MPEG audio layer-1/2/3, WAVE, DIVX, MJPEG, and raw or compressed (pass-through) video frames.
A number of export modules for enable writing DivX ;-), DivX 4.02/5.xx, XviD, Digital Video, MPEG-1/2 or uncompressed AVI files with MPEG, AC3 (pass-through) or PCM audio. More file formats and codecs for audio/video import are supported by the MPlayer and avifile import modules (exporting with avifile is restricted to video codecs, with MPEG/PCM or AC3 (pass-through) audio provided by transcode). Limited DVD subtitle rendering is also available.
Its modular concept is intended to provide flexibility and easy user extensibility to include other video/audio codecs or file types. A set of tools is available to extract, demultiplex and decode the sources into raw video/audio streams for import, non AVI-file export modules for writing single frames (PPM) or YUV4MPEG streams, auto-probing and scanning your sources and to enable post-processing of AVI files, including header fixing, merging multiple files or splitting large AVI files to fit on a CD.
Transcode runs on UN*X like systems like Linux, BSD, and MacOSX.
Transcode loads shared library modules that are responsible for feeding it with raw streams and encoding the frames:
The Import Modules for audio/video decoding are loaded with dlopen system call and are responsible for starting the video and audio streams (directly or via the popen system call) and have a single function interface to the main program. The import is handled by a thread that buffers the video/audio frames.
The main program transcode currently performs a number of simple video/audio frame manipulations (in this order) or allows simple pass-through of raw frame data:
Video:
- cut out arbitray frame region for processing
- de-interlace video frame
- fast enlarging of video width/height by a multiple of 32 rows/column up to 1024x768
- fast reduction of video width/height by a multiple of 32 rows/column
- high-quality resizing with filter
- cut out arbitray frame region for encoding
- rescale (downsample) video width/height by a power of 2
- flip video frame upside down
- mirror image of video frame
- swap R and B bytes in video frame
- transform to b/w video frame
- apply gamma correction
- anti-alias video frame
Audio:
- change the volume of the audio stream
- resample audio stream
- swap byte order in audio stream
- sync video with audio frames (V=0|A=N, V=1|A=N+1,...)
- Filter Plugins:
- Additional effects are available via external filter plugins loaded with option "-J".
The Export Modules for audio/video encoding are loaded via the dlopen system call and the encoder loop is started for the selected frames. In most cases audio and video are handled by the same module.
Enhancements:
- This release includes only critical hotfixes.
- The main highlight is compatibilty with newer releases of ffmpeg libraries.
- Some filters have been updated.

libbubblemon 1.0
libbubblemon is a library for making bubbling meters like the original bubbling load monitor. more>>
This is a library for making bubbling meters like the original bubbling load monitor.
The library accepts numbers as input for the different visualizations (water-level, color, amount of bubbles, amount of growth from the bottom, whether something is floating in the water).
It can then render a picture of it that you are responsible for passing to the screen (or whatever you want to do with it). As long as you render an image at least 10 times per second, the animation will be smooth.
Libbubblemon is intended to be entirely widget set independent, so you should be able to use it with your favourite desktop environment. If you find something that binds it to any certain platform, report it on the mailing list and it will be fixed.

pam_shield is a PAM module that uses iptables to lock out script kiddies that probe your computer for open logins and/or easy guessable passwords. The project is meant as an aid to protect public computers on the open internet.
Everybody knows it is unwise to leave computers largely unprotected connected to the internet. However, there are cases in which this is still common practice. For exampe, academic sites with hundreds of users often have a policy of allowing logins from over the world. They are under constant attack by "kiddies" trying to break in to the system by password guessing. pam_shield aims to detect and block these "kiddies".
pam_shield was developed by Walter de Jong in 2006 and 2007.
The author cannot be held responsible for any consequences or harm caused by this software.

cheapskate 0.0.1
cheapskate is a simple Ruby on Rails application for personal budgeting. more>>
cheapskate is a simple Ruby on Rails application for personal budgeting.
Rails is a web-application and persistence framework that includes everything needed to create database-backed web-applications according to the Model-View-Control pattern of separation. This pattern splits the view (also called the presentation) into "dumb" templates that are primarily responsible for inserting pre-built data in between HTML tags. The model contains the
"smart" domain objects (such as Account, Product, Person, Post) that holds all the business logic and knows how to persist themselves to a database. The controller handles the incoming requests (such as Save New Account, Update Product, Show Post) by manipulating the model and directing data to the view.
In Rails, the model is handled by whats called an object-relational mapping layer entitled Active Record. This layer allows you to present the data from database rows as objects and embellish these data objects with business logic methods. You can read more about Active Record in
link:files/vendor/rails/activerecord/README.html.
The controller and view are handled by the Action Pack, which handles both layers by its two parts: Action View and Action Controller. These two layers are bundled in a single package due to their heavy interdependence. This is unlike the relationship between the Active Record and Action Pack that is much more separate. Each of these packages can be used independently outside of Rails. You can read more about Action Pack in link:files/vendor/rails/actionpack/README.html.

Gentle.NET 1.2.9
Gentle.NET is an object persistence framework for .NET written in C#. more>>
Gentle.NET is an RDBMS independent object persistence framework. Gentle.NET features automatic SQL generation and object construction, an SQL factory for creating custom queries, DataView construction helpers, excellent performance and reasonably complete docs.
The framework defines a few attributes with which you have to decorate the objects you wish to persist. Decorate classes with the TableName attribute, and members (properties and fields as you see fit) with the TableColumn attribute.
There are additional attributes available which need only be used when no Analyzer class exists for the database you are using (see Database Provider - Implementation Status). The Analyzer classes are used to obtain metadata on the current schema directly from the database, thus bypassing the need for replicating this information in your code.
If no Analyzer exists, primary key columns must be decorated with the PrimaryKey attribute, and foreign keys and their mappings must be declared using the ForeignKey attribute. The TableColumn attribute provides properties allowing you to provide details on type, size and null-handling. If an Analyzer does exist, the information obtained automatically overrides any such setting.
Business objects may optionally inherit from the Persistent class, which provides a set of standard methods for persisting and retrieving objects. You can replicate these on a different base class if needed, or on a manager class if you prefer a more SOA-oriented design. Gentle provides support for identity columns (where the database assigns a primary key value to the row being inserted) to implementors of IPersistent (which includes the Persistent class).
The main access point into the framework functionality is provided by the PersistenceBroker class, which is responsible for orchestrating all access to a given database provider.
The PersistenceBroker is responsible for basic query construction and caching, as well as interaction with the database backends. You can create as many PersistenceBroker instances as needed, such as one for every database to which you need to connect. Various classes permit or require you to pass a PersistenceBroker instance, which will be used subsequently for all database operations performed by the class.
If you need to connect to a single database only, you can use the static Broker class, which delegates all calls to a default PersistenceBroker instance (using the DefaultProvider configured in the configuration file).
Persistent objects are identified by a Key, which is really just a Hashtable with some convenient methods for gathering property values from objects. The Key class knows how to populate itself when given an object instance and a set of property names, and also provides a means of obtaining a key holding just the primary key fields.
This is useful when constructing custom queries as constraints can be passed as Key instances to methods on both the (Persistence)Broker and SqlBuilder classes. This encapsulation also enables Gentle to work with multi-column primary keys.
To execute custom SQL statements use the SqlStatement class. Use the SqlBuilder class to construct instances of this class whenever the statement is for a supported type (i.e. a class decorated with the proper attributes as outlined above).
The SqlBuilder provides a database independent way of constructing queries and has many methods for adding constraints and otherwise customizing the query. It is used internally by the PersistenceBroker whenever it needs to generate statements.
You can declare a DataView layout using the CustomView attribute on the properties to include in the DataView. The actual DataView can be obtained using the ObjectView class by supplying an array of business objects.
Multiple statements can be transacted (grouped) using the Transaction class.
Enhancements:
- This release features a complete rewrite of the cache subsystem, with significant performance improvements as a result.
- There have also been several minor improvements and bugfixes throughout the code base.

MARIE 0.5.0
MARIE is a new design tool for mobile and autonomous robot applications. more>>
MARIE project is a robotic development and integration environment focused on software reusability and exploitation of already available APIs and middlewares frequently used in robotics.
The main purpose of MARIE is to create a rapid-prototyping approach to software development in robotics.
MARIE proposes a development environment, which copes directly with inter-application communications, creating transparency for communications between them and their localization.
Each application interacts with MARIE communication system, instead of the typical application-to-application relation. It proposes a development environment, which helps and supports distributed system creation. We can see it as a toolbox appropriate for creation of robotics system, plus development guidelines and some APIs to support what is specific in applications.
MARIE uses the mediator design pattern for distributed system in order to cope with different applications not sharing the same communication protocol. This mediator design pattern creates a centralized control unit (the mediator) which interacts with each colleague (the applications) independently.
It coordinates global interactions between colleagues in order to realize the desired system. The five principal consequences from this design are: limiting subclassing, decoupling colleagues, simplifying object protocols, abstracting how objects cooperate and centralizing control.
Application Adapters are responsible for sending service requests and communications from the centralized control unit to the applications, and vice versa, using an application proxy. Each application to be integrated must have its own Application Adapter that encapsulates communication mechanism, the services it provides and the specific configurations it needs.
Communication Adapters are responsible for translating information between different communication protocols and mechanisms.
Communication Managers are responsible of creating and managing communication links between Application Adapters that need to be connected together.
Application Managers manage and control the entire system by coordinating system states, achieving coherence and stability, and configuring and controlling of all components available in the system.
Ports & Communication Strategies are responsible of interconnections between MARIEs components. Each components have one or more Ports that are used as tap points where communication links can be established. Each Port can have its own strategy, called Communication Strategy(CS), on how it handles incoming and outgoing data. Typically, CS implements or is based on a known protocol, such as TCP, UDP or IPC, but it can be any other strategies as well (shared memory, files, direct function calls, ...). Decoupling Communication Strategy from Port functionnalities opens the possibility to choose which protocol is used for each Port without having to modify code related to Ports/components functionnalities.
Enhancements:
- Lots of changes were made in this release.
- A build system based on Scons is used.
- Component creation was simplified.
- User-defined plugins were added for CFB, CS, and Data Factory (SerDes).
- Project file description is used instead of start scripts.
- Socket port number is now automatically managed.
- A new console and GUI Application Manager were added.
- A toolbox for RobotFlow was added.
- Unit tests were introduced.
- New documentation was written.
- A new wiki-based Web site used.
- Code bugs and issues were corrected.
