reset-screen is a very simple Qt 4 program that displays a simple cross hatch pattern on your monitor.

Why is this useful? Well, it makes the auto-sync feature of the flat panel LCD monitors out there both faster and more accurate (well, for mine anyways).

I have to run this every other time I start KDE so I figure others may find it useful as well.

This isnt really useful for laptop users I think, but you may need it. Who knows? :)

This is a very simple program, which a very simple build system.

Xtra Screen Hacks 0.1

Xtra Screen Hacks 0.1

Xtra Screen Hacks is a collection of graphics display modes that are meant to be run with a daemon such as XScreenSaver. more>>
Xtra Screen Hacks is a collection of graphics display modes that are meant to be run with a daemon such as XScreenSaver.

"Daisy" draws spinning flowers, and "Twinkle" draws a twinkling star field.

Compilation of Xtra Screen Hacks depends only on xlib.

Installation:

The configure script is not up and running yet, so the Makefiles and config.h are hacked versions of the ones xscreensavers configure script generated on the authors machine. If your system differs from the authors (i686 Debian GNU/Linux) then the build will probably not work for you, unless you hack the Makefiles and possibly config.h to modify the variables and defines.

If the Makefiles and config.h are ok, then simply run

$ make

to generate the binaries. They will be in the hacks directory.
If you have a copy of XScreensaver installed from the tarball, run

$ make install

If not, you will need to copy the files to their target directories by hand. Search for deluxe, deluxe.xml, and deluxe.1 (or deluxe.man, deluxe.6x.gz, etc) using locate, find, or whereis to figure out where they should go. The binaries and xml files must be in the correct directories
to work properly with xscreensaver-demo.

You will need to add entries to your .xscreensaver file by hand. Open $HOME/.xscreensaver in your favorite text editor and paste the following two lines into the "programs" section:

--snip----------------
- daisy -root n
- twinkle -root n
--snip----------------

Then run xscreensaver-demo to activate and configure the hacks.

If you dont have XScreensaver at all, just enjoy the hacks in an X window.

If make install worked for you, type

$ make uninstall

when you no longer want the new screen hacks.

Eject Cdrom, forcefully ejects your cdrom/cdwriter device.

It is especially useful when you are in a hurry, and dont know which application is using the cdrom device. Instead of pressing the Reset Button use Eject Cdrom

Eject Cdrom, will try the "normal" eject first, if it fails then it will forcefully eject the cdrom.

Make sure that you have your cdrom device linked to /dev/cdrom, check with:

ls -l /dev/cdrom

if you get
/dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdd (or something) then it is ok

else create a symbolic link:
ln -sf /dev/hdd /dev/cdrom (or)
ln -sf /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom

Installation:

just save the eject.desktop file on your desktop or add to your menu. just click it to eject your cdrom (normally else forcefully)!

my $console = Term::ANSIScreen->new;
$console->Cls; # also works on non-Win32 platform

Term::ANSIScreen is a superset of Term::ANSIColor (as of version 1.04 of that module). In addition to color-sequence generating subroutines exported by :color and :constants, this module also features :cursor for cursor positioning, :screen for screen control, as well as :keyboard for key mapping.

NOTES

All subroutines in Term::ANSIScreen will print its return value if called under a void context.

The cursor position, current color, screen mode and keyboard mappings affected by Term::ANSIScreen will last after the program terminates. You might want to reset them before the end of your program.

GPS::PRN 0.05

GPS::PRN 0.05

GPS::PRN is a package for PRN - Object ID conversions. more>>
GPS::PRN is a package for PRN - Object ID conversions.

SYNOPSIS

use GPS::PRN;
my $obj = GPS::PRN->new();
print "PRN: ", $obj->prn_oid(22231), "n";
print "OID: ", $obj->oid_prn(1), "n";

This module maps GPS PRN number to Satellite OID and vice versa.

Object Identification Number (OID)

The catalog number assigned to the object by the US Air Force. The numbers are assigned sequentially as objects are cataloged. This is the most common way to search for TLE data on this site.

Object numbers less then 10000 are always aligned to the right, and padded with zeros or spaces to the left.

Pseudo Random Numbers (PRNs)

GPS satellites are identified by the receiver by means of PRN-numbers. Real GPS satellites are numbered from 1 - 32. WAAS/EGNOS satellites and other pseudolites are assigned higher numbers. The PRN-numbers of the satellites appear on the satellite view screens of many GPS receivers.

METHODS

prn_oid

PRN given Object ID.

my $prn=prn_oid(22231);

oid_prn

Object ID given PRN.

my $oid=oid_prn(1);

listprn

List all known PRNs.

my @prn=$obj->listprn;
my $prn=$obj->listprn;

listoid

List all known OIDs.

my @oid=$obj->listoid;
my $oid=$obj->listoid;

data

OID to PRN hash reference

my $data=$self->data;

overload

Adds or overloads new OID/PRN pairs.

$obj->overload($oid=>$prn);

reset

Resets overloaded OID/PRN pairs to package defaults.

$obj->reset;

screen-scraper 3.0

screen-scraper 3.0

screen-scraper is a tool for extracting data from Web sites. more>>
screen-scraper project is a tool used to extract data from web sites. You might use screen-scraper for the following purposes:
- Data Mining and Extraction
- Data Migration
- Application Integration
- Business Intelligence
- Web Task Automation
- Portal Components
- Meta-Searching
- Archiving
The screen-scraper application consists of two primary pieces:
- Workbench: A graphical user interface provides an intuitive approach that allows you to designate pages and specific pieces of information to be extracted.
- Server: After using the workbench to designate the data to be scraped, screen-scraper can be run in a server mode, much like a database. External applications can then connect to screen-scraper, which will pull data off of the designated web sites, then return them to the calling application. For example, you might build a web-based application using Active Server Pages (ASP) or PHP that invokes screen-scraper to search for products found on an external web site in real-time.
Additionally, screen-scraper can be started in a non-graphical mode from the command line such that it can be scheduled or invoked on-demand.
screen-scraper can automate many of the tasks typically required when scraping data from web pages, such as tracking cookies, logging in to web sites, and traversing search results pages.
Depending on the programming languages and platforms you most prefer, screen-scraper is likely to be familiar to you. screen-scraper contains an internal scripting engine that supports:
- VBScript
- JScript
- Perl
- Interpreted Java
- JavaScript
- Python
When invoking screen-scraper externally take your pick from the following languages:
- Java
- PHP
- Anything COM-based (such as Active Server Pages, Visual Basic, and Visual C++)
- .NET (both Microsoft-based and Mono)
- Cold Fusion
Enhancements:
- Several bugfixes and minor features have been added, including automatic backup of the database, enhanced HTML rendering and HTML stripping, fixing an error that caused duplicate scripts to appear at times on import, and fixing multiple errors relating to international character sets and non-ASCII characters.

SliceTime 0.9e

SliceTime 0.9e

Slicetime is a program that helps you track time you spend on projects. more>>
Slicetime is a program that helps you track time you spend on projects. Slicetime is designed to make it easy to switch between different projects, the main window is in the shape of vertical sidebar that makes it convenient to keep it always visible on the side of the screen. In short, continuous tracking of time taken on projects is made as effortless as possible.
The purpose of the program is to make you aware of which tasks take more time, and which take less; it can also be used to keep track and charge time if youre working for someone on hourly basis. The advantage of the program is that it lets you switch back and forth very easily, letting you keep a very accurate account of how much a task took even if you have to stop it frequently and work on something else.
The results can be very surprising, something may feel like it took only a few minutes whereas it took almost an hour in real time; the reverse is sometimes true although not as often.
Slicetime main window is a vertical bar with a row of buttons, each button representing a project. When the button is pressed in, the project is active, the rest of projects are inactive. Each project button shows the time taken on the project today. At 12 oclock the daily time is reset and new days count is started.
Time is kept for current day, week, month and total. Example: I may have a slicetime project that has 3:59 time today, 8:00 this week (including today), 17:00 this month (including this week) and 125:00 total time, which may have been accumulated over years.
Slicetime makes it easy to change project time for current day if you forgot to check in or check out. Menu command (add or subtract project time) will add or subtract the time for today. Another command will set all times for total, month, week and day.
Slicetime as of now has two report options, it can report by time taken for each project on a daily, weekly, montly and total basis and the same by percentage. For example, it will show that today project A was 60%, project B - 30% and C - 10%, and will do the same for current week, month and total.
Note that Slicetime does not keep separate time accounting from previous week, month, day, etc. It will not tell you that you spend 5 hours last saturday. It will only tell you total time, time taken on current month, week and day; but it makes perfect sense to keep this data as well, and I will almost certainly add it.
Functionality:
- Add project
- Remove project (deletes all data and button, irrecoverable, use sparingly!)
- Report by time
- Report by percentage
- Set project time
- Add or subtract project time
Version restrictions:
- Number of project buttons is effectively limited by vertical size of screen. On a common 1024 res, you can fit in around 42 projects, which should be enough for anyone, but I will add an option of hiding projects from main window if requested.
- Latest version not tested in Unix, but will most likely work. I will test it soon & fix if needed.
- Could keep time for each past day, week, month, year. Most likely will be added eventually.
Enhancements:
- Several bugs were fixed.
- The interface was changed to be more user friendly.
- Autosave functionality was added to make up for some stability problems on WinXP.

SSS (Screen Saver Stopper) 0.9.1

SSS (Screen Saver Stopper) 0.9.1

SSS (Screen Saver Stopper)offers you a mini tool to protect the screen saver from starting as long as the SSS window is open. more>> SSS (Screen Saver Stopper) 0.9.1 offers you a mini tool to protect the screen saver from starting as long as the SSS window is open. This is useful when you are watching a movie, viewing the progress of a program's compilation or performing any other task which the blanking of your screen by the screen saver can disrupt.

SSS works with both XScreenSaver and the KDE KScreenSaver (KDE's "screen corners action" option only supports KScreenSaver). It is much easier to use than opening the Control Center, disabling the screen saver from there, and re-enabling it once you're done. To temporarily disable the screensaver, simply open SSS by clicking on its icon. Close the SSS window when you want the screensaver to be re-enabled. It's that simple.

Enhancements: Added Slovak translation (thanks to Jozef Riha)
