File::Remove 0.34

File::Remove 0.34

File::Remove is a Perl module to remove files and directories. more>>
File::Remove is a Perl module to remove files and directories.

SYNOPSIS

use File::Remove qw(remove);

# removes (without recursion) several files
remove qw( *.c *.pl );

# removes (with recursion) several directories
remove 1, qw( directory1 directory2 );

# removes (with recursion) several files and directories
remove 1, qw( file1 file2 directory1 *~ );

# trashes (with support for undeleting later) several files
trash qw( *~ );

File::Remove::remove removes files and directories. It acts like /bin/rm, for the most part. Although unlink can be given a list of files, it will not remove directories; this module remedies that. It also accepts wildcards, * and ?, as arguments for filenames.

File::Remove::trash accepts the same arguments as remove, with the addition of an optional, infrequently used "other platforms" hashref.

Songs 0.3

Songs 0.3

Songs is a graphical tool to record and mix audio files. more>>
Songs is a graphical tool to record and mix audio files. It supports an infinite number of tracks, huge audio files, and various effects.
One important motivation for Songs was the need of a recording tool under Linux. There are some already existing (see the links below), but these are too complex, too huge, eat too much memory and resources. Small machines can be used to record and mix audio files, even with a graphical interface. Songs is trying to prove it.
The recording is done directly to disk, so that with small machines, whithout much memory you can still record.
There is a full duplex mode, but full duplex is not very well handled with OSS. You dont really know if your two streams of samples are synchronized or not, and the interface provided by OSS does not help much with that. So, currently, take the full duplex mode as is. You probably will need to move by hand audio tracks to let them be synchronized.
Main features:
- Unlimited number of tracks.
- Supports WAV files (mono, stereo). Only 44.1 KHz, 16 bits files are supported, because Songs was born mainly to help me create music I could store on audio digital compact disks.
- Supports raw float files (mono, stereo). Very useful when you are mixing and that you eat too much resources. Simply put in a new file your current mix, and use this new file instead of several ones. Using float numbers gives more precision of the intermediary mixing.
- Several effects (currently not that much, but it is planned).
- Not too much memory used. All the audio files are mapped directly into the memory, so that the Linux kernel can swap them very easily. It means that if your files can exist on your disk, any size they are, they can be used with Songs (with a soft limitation of virtual memory space, which depends on your setup, and a hard limitation of 2 GB, because of the use of signed integers, which currently are 32 bits numbers).
- Use of gtk 2.0, for the good and the bad. The good is that the interface was done quickly. The bad is that the gtk documentation is far from perfect, that gtk is not bug free, that I may use it the wrong way sometimes and that it may change in the future, forcing Songs to be changed (and what if the Songs authors dont feel the need to do so, for example by lack of time?).
Enhancements:
- sc1.c sc1_gui.c:
- New files, ripping a compressor from sc1_1425 coming from swh-plugins-0.4.11.tar.gz (see http://plugin.org.uk/).The compressor was buggy, sometimes in rms_env_process
- r->sum was negative, leading to NaN for the sqrt stuff.
- pan/vol/pos.c: Checking return value of malloc (no, it was not done, shame !).
- various files: Fixing a realloc misusing (doing realloc(size+=32) then size+=32, which finally means size+=64 but only allocing size+32 stuff, weirdy to find).
- help_gui.c: The "About" stuff only appeared once, fixing it.
- various files: Fixing bugs those last days, forgot to feed this Changelog.

Remove playlist duplicates 0.2

Remove playlist duplicates 0.2

Remove playlist duplicates detects all duplicate playlist entries and leaves just the first one of each of them. more>>
Remove playlist duplicates is a simple perl script which on track change detects all duplicate playlist entries and leaves just the first one of each of them.

I have files duplicated on my mp3 player and hard drive and when I plugged my player in, my collection contained duplicate entries. this was bit annoying, so Ive made a script to remove songs that were in playlist twice. probably theres easier way to do it...

Grave 0.4

Grave 0.4

Grave is an MP3 play-list editor and an interface tool to the Sensory Science RaveMP MP2000 Digital Media Player. more>>
Grave is an MP3 play-list editor and an interface tool to the Sensory Science RaveMP MP2000 Digital Media Player. Grave is made with the GTK+ toolkit and the Gnome libraries. It allows you to create and edit play-lists. The play-lists are stored as text files and can be used with most (software) MP3 players (i.e. XMMS).
The part interacting with the RaveMP (hardware) MP3 player can up and download single files, or complete play lists. You can browse files that are stored on the player and download them to your PC. You can upload a complete play list, or select single files in the file browser and upload those to the player.
Grave works fine without an RaveMP media player.
Main features:
- MP3 files can be selected in a file browser and then added either to an existing play-list, or a new play-list will be created from scratch. Songs can be removed, moved up, moved down, moved to the end or to the beginning of the play-list. If available, the ID3 tag of the MP3 file will be displayed when the file is selected. Single songs can be played with an external MP3 player.

songanalysis 0.4.0

songanalysis 0.4.0

songanalysis software analyzes a song in WAV, Ogg Vorbis, or MP3 format. more>>
songanalysis software analyzes a song in WAV, Ogg Vorbis, or MP3 format and produces an output consisting of the volume differential, the relative strength in each frequency band, and the tempo.

This is useful if you want to build something that lets you find out whether you have duplicate files, if you need to find out the tempo of your songs, or if you need to find similar songs according to how they sound.

Per-Song Volume 0.2.0

Per-Song Volume 0.2.0

Per-Song Volume is a Perl script maintains a per-song volume information. more>>
Per-Song Volume is a Perl script maintains a per-song volume information.

What it means is that a volume is associated with each song, which is recorded whenever the volume changes, and is restored to its last value when the song is played again.

This is useful if you have several songs which sound louder or softer than the rest.

To run this script you need perl 5 and DBD::SQLite (http://search.cpan.org/dist/DBD-SQLite/).

The file "$HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts-data/per-song-volume.default-volume.txt" can optionally hold the default volume for playing the files (an integer from 0 to 100). The default setting for it is 40.

I hope you find this script useful!

Apt-get Install / Remove Packet 1.0

Apt-get Install / Remove Packet 1.0

Apt-get Install / Remove Packet is a tool to install/remove packets with debian apt-get. more>>
Apt-get Install / Remove Packet is a tool to install/remove packets with debian apt-get.

About Apt-Get:

Advanced Packaging Tool, or APT, is a package management system used by Debian and its derivatives. APT was originally designed to work with .deb packages on Debian systems, but it has since been modified to work with RPM packages via apt-rpm, and to run on other operating systems such as Mac OS X (see fink). On systems with package management based on .deb, such as Debian, APT is a front-end for dpkg.

APT simplifies the process of installing and removing software on Unix systems, by automating the retrieval, (from the Internet, local network, or CD) the configuration, the compiling (sometimes) and the installation of software from APT sources.

There is no apt program per se; APT is a C++ library of functions that are used by several command line programs for dealing with packages, most notably apt-get and apt-cache.

APT front-ends can upgrade the system or specific packages. Packages can be installed or removed. When installing one or several packages, APT front-ends can list the dependencies of these packages, ask the administrator if packages recommended or suggested by newly installed packages should be installed too, automatically install dependencies and perform other operations on the systems packages to allow the installation of the packages. Similarly, to update one or several packages, front-ends can install, remove or update other packages.

APT is often hailed as one of Debians best features, giving Debian the reputation of being a "pain to install, but a joy to maintain", although with Debian 3.1 and its Debian-Installer, Debians installation might be too easy nowadays to keep this true.

Room Juice 0.3.1

Room Juice 0.3.1

Room Juice is a multi-user jukebox web application. more>>
Room Juice is a multi-user jukebox web application. So its basically an mpg321 / madplay / ogg123 / mikmod / xmp / whatever front end. Its designed to be simple to use and understand, and hopefully, not too difficult to install. The main way to listen to the music is locally, but by using a program such as darkice and icecast (listed below), you can stream the music to other people as well.

I wrote it because all other jukebox programs out at the time seemed inadequate in some sense or another, and I wanted something better, something that I could improve upon. Room Juice is developed under linux, but I dont see why you couldnt use it on other flavors of unix. A windows port wouldnt be easy because of the codes reliance on command line utilities ( mpg321 / mp3info / madplay / ogg123 / ogginfo / mikmod / xmp / locate ). Its GPLd though, so do what you want with the code.

Basically you hit a web page, browse/search music files, add them to the playlist, or remove them. Hit play, the music starts. Hit stop, the music stops. Hit veto and the current song is stopped, a corny sound effect plays (or doesnt if you wish), and music continues on with the next song. The fun part is that you can give permissions by IP. The default is to give myself (192.168.1.*) absolute access; control of the music player, add, remove songs, and veto. While the rest of the world has access to browse my music and add songs to my playlist. All of this can, of course, be configured.

This application is great for multiple people in the same room (or irc channel if you want to stream it). The inspiration basically came from the movie "Empire Records" where characters in the movie would play music, and each had one veto a day. Currently everybody has unlimited vetos, mainly because I find the limitation of one veto a day annoying. BTW, if anyone can record me a clean sounding Empire Records "siren/scratch" sound effect, please do so!
