DVD BacKup Express is a small Kommander Script to create a GUI for dvdbackup.

I made it because it can be run on any platform with kommander installed and dvdbackup available (which may be more platforms than kdvdbackup or other binary frontends are available for)

There is a lot of room for improvement here. Feel free to spruce it up a bit and send me the new .kmdr file and i will update this.

Class::Meta::Express 0.04

Class::Meta::Express 0.04

Class::Meta::Express is a Perl module for concise, expressive creation of Class::Meta classes. more>>
Class::Meta::Express is a Perl module for concise, expressive creation of Class::Meta classes.

Synopsis

package My::Contact;
use Class::Meta::Express;

class {
meta contact => ( default_type => string );
has name;
has contact => ( required => 1 );
}

This module provides an interface to concisely yet expressively create classes with Class::Meta. Although I am of course fond of Class::Meta, Ive never been overly thrilled with its interface for creating classes:

package My::Thingy;
use Class::Meta;

BEGIN {
# Create a Class::Meta object for this class.
my $cm = Class::Meta->new( key => thingy );

# Add a constructor.
$cm->add_constructor( name => new );

# Add a couple of attributes with generated accessors.
$cm->add_attribute(
name => id,
is => integer,
required => 1,
);

$cm->add_attribute(
name => name,
is => string,
required => 1,
);

$cm->add_attribute(
name => age,
is => integer,
);

# Add a custom method.
$cm->add_method(
name => chk_pass,
code => sub { return code },
);
$cm->build;
}

This example is relatively simple; it can get a lot more verbose. But even still, all of the method calls were annoying. I mean, whoever thought of using an object oriented interface for declaring a class? (Oh yeah: I did.) I wasnt alone in wanting a more declarative interface; Curtis Poe, with my blessing, created Class::Meta::Declare, which would use this syntax to create the same class:

package My::Thingy;
use Class::Meta::Declare :all;

Class::Meta::Declare->new(
# Create a Class::Meta object for this class.
meta => [
key => thingy,
],
# Add a constructor.
constructors => [
new => { }
],
# Add a couple of attributes with generated accessors.
attributes => [
id => {
type => $TYPE_INTEGER,
required => 1,
},
name => {
required => 1,
type => $TYPE_STRING,
},
age => { type => $TYPE_INTEGER, },
],
# Add a custom method.
methods => [
chk_pass => {
code => sub { return code },
}
]
);

This approach has the advantage of being a bit more concise, and it is declarative, but I find all of the indentation levels annoying; its hard for me to figure out where I am, especially if I have to define a lot of attributes. And finally, everything is a string with this syntax, except for those ugly read-only scalars such as $TYPE_INTEGER. So I cant easily tell where one attribute ends and the next one starts. Bleh.

Logitech Quickcam express driver 0.6.4

This project is to produce drivers for the Logitech Quickam Express that will run popular linux software, such as video for linux.

This site hosts the Linux driver for the QuickCam Express and other QuickCam-related and QuickCam-compatible USB web cameras. The original work was done by Georg Acher and was known as qce-ga; Jean-Frederic Clere took that driver and created the first Video4Linux (V4L) driver, enabling popular V4L applications such as Xawtv to display pictures from the webcam. Since then, a group of developers around the world have evolved the driver into its current state, adding support for new cameras and chipsets as they have become available. In the process, the driver became known as qc-usb to reflect the fact that it supports a wide variety of USB-attached QuickCam cameras, not just the QuickCam Express.

The qc-usb driver supports the following webcams:

Dexxa Webcam
Labtec Webcam (old model)
LegoCam
Logitech QuickCam Express (old model)
Logitech QuickCam Notebook (some models)
Logitech QuickCam Web

Generally, any USB camera with a USB vendor ID of 0x46d and a USB product ID of 0x840, 0x850, or 0x870 (so, 0x46d:0x840, for example), should work. You can see the USB ID using operating system utilities such as lsusb in Linux.

Scriptol to PHP for Linux 6.2

Scriptol to PHP for Linux 6.2

A modern programming language, designed to be simple and easy to learn. more>> Scriptol is a modern programming language, designed to be simple and easy to learn, allowing new users ready to program in some hours. The programming time is largely decreased.
Scriptol is object-oriented, xml-oriented, extensible, universal, uses C++, PHP or Java APIs, and GTK for graphical user interface. It is universal, that means it is convenient for scripting, to build applications or to make dynamic web pages.
Free scriptol interpreter and compilers are currently available for Windows and Unix.
Features of Scriptol
Scriptol is :
objectively modern: it has been designed according to seven rules for simplicity, safety, and doesnt carry ancient obsolete syntax.
object-oriented, even simple scalar as "int", or literal as "123", are objects and have methods.
typed: the compiler can check for content and type of variables, that is not possible with usually untyped scripting languages.
natural: types are not based on computers hardware but on humans concepts or mathematical sets: these are text, number, integer, real, etc...
powerful and safe: new control structures has been introduced with scriptol.
Examples:
- composite if, that is both an if statement and a switch case with any kind of values.
- while let, that protects from infinite loop.
- for .. in array, or for .. in a..b, the simplest way to express ranges.
simple: no symbols as -> or ::, just a dot in any case.
Adding 1 to x is just written: x + 1, and not x += 1.
No memory management required, executables have a garbage collector.
C++ compatible: you have just to link C++ object files or library files, and use the functions they hold, no any extension required to write!
For example, you have just to add the GTK import libraries in the configuration file of a scriptol source to use the GTK user interface...
PHP compatible: you can program web pages in Scriptol, your code is converted to Php and all Php functions may be used.

BORG Calendar and Task Tracker 1.6

BORG Calendar and Task Tracker 1.6

BORG is a combination calendar and task tracking system. more>>
BORG is a combination calendar and task tracking system. The calendar supports simple todos. The Task Tracker goes way beyond todos.
BORG is basically meant to be a small self-contained Java application that you can run locally. Many users run BORG Calendar and Task Tracker from a thumb drive.
BORG actually stands for Berger-Organizer. Unfortunately, the name BORG seems to be a popular choice for software products, probably due to the number of Star Trek fans that write code. The fact that BORG calendar also seems to refer to the Microsoft Outlook calendar makes things even more confusing. Oh well....
Why would anyone want to use a home-grown calendar/task tracker when there are so many others out there, freeware and otherwise?
A potential BORG user might agree with the following:
- I use a calendar/task tracker to remind me to do everything in life that I have to do.
- I do not want to set up a web server just to see my calendar
- I do not want to access the internet to see my calendar
- I work on Linux, Windows and other OSs and would like any of my machines to run my calendar program
- I dont want to have to worry about my calendar not working if I upgrade linux, windows, glibc, mySQL, apache, < fill in any third-party software that causes things to stop working >, etc...
- I like open source software. Even if the developer(s) die, I can still build and enhance my calendar program.
Main features:
- Nice Month-at-a-time view
- To-Do list
- Month-print
- Repeating Appointments
- Private Appointments that do not show by default (for recording things like "rectal exam 2pm" that you dont need your friends/coworkers to see over your shoulder).
- The Task Tracker tracks issues and tasks through a set of states with start and end dates, sub-tasks, descriptions, and resolutions.
- Pop-up reminders
- Email reminders
- User tunable task types and state transitions in the task tracker
- Week and Day Views
- A simple address book
- File-based DB or MySQL DB
- XML import/export
- iCal import/export
- more ...

MySQL Global User Variables UDF 1.0

MySQL Global User Variables UDF 1.0

MySQL Global User Variables UDF is a MySQL extension to store persistent variables. more>>
MySQL Global User Variables UDF is a MySQL extension to store persistent variables.

This shared library adds simple user functions to MySQL in order to keep persistent shared variables in memory. These variables and their values are available to all clients. Any data can be stored into these persistent variables, including BLOBs. Since updates are atomic and way faster than MEMORY tables, this is an easy and efficient way to handle counters and sequences.

Usage:

Storing a value

An unlimited number of user variables can be created, as long as memory is available.
The GLOBAL_STORE(, ) stores a new shared global variable.

Examples:

mysql> DO GLOBAL_STORE("online_users", 42);
mysql> DO GLOBAL_STORE("secret_key", "pajfUyfnd");

The GLOBAL_STORE() function always returns 1 unless an error occurred.

Fetching a value

Reading the value of a variable is the job of the GLOBAL_GET() function.
The value is returned, or NULL is the variable is undefined.

Example:

mysql> SELECT GLOBAL_GET("online_users;);
42

mysql> SELECT id FROM pxs WHERE secret_key = GLOBAL_GET("secret_key");
1

Atomic increments

A single function call can read the previous value, add an integer (that can be negative), and store the new value into the variable.

The function is GLOBAL_ADD(, ) and the return value is the new value of the variable.
Updates are always atomic, if the old value is 18 and you add 1, you will always get back 19.

Example:

mysql> DO GLOBAL_ADD("online_users", 1);
mysql> SELECT GLOBAL_ADD("online_users", -4);
39

If the value of a variable was a string, the new value is the increment:

mysql> SELECT GLOBAL_ADD("secret_key", 12);
12

Adding a value to an undefined variable returns NULL.
A handy variant is GLOBAL_ADDP(, ). GLOBAL_ADDP() is similar to GLOBAL_ADD() but returns the PREVIOUS value of the variable instead of the new one.

Example:

mysql> DO GLOBAL_SET("xxx", 10);
mysql> SELECT GLOBAL_ADDP("xxx", 1);
10
mysql> SELECT GLOBAL_ADDP("xxx", 1);
11

Installation:

On most systems, compiling and installing the library should be as simple as typing (as root):

make install

The shared library is installed as /usr/local/lib/udf_global_user_variables.so

If the base directory of your MySQL installation is not in /usr/local, just type:

make

and then copy udf_global_user_variables.so to the right location for UDFs on your system (maybe /usr/lib/).

The name of a variable is limited to 256 bytes. If that limit is too low for your specific application, just edit the MAX_NAME_LENGTH variable on top of the .c file and reinstall. Variable names can contain binary characters.

Values are limited to 65536 bytes. If that limit is too low for you, edit the MAX_VALUE_LENGTH variable and reinstall.
