Digital Invisible Ink Toolkit 1.5

Digital Invisible Ink Toolkit 1.5

Digital Invisible Ink Toolkit provides a simple tool that can hide a message inside a 24-bit colour image. more>>
The Digital Invisible Ink Toolkit is a Java steganography tool that can hide any sort of file inside a digital image (regarding that the message will fit, and the image is 24 bit colour). Digital Invisible Ink Toolkit will work on Linux and Max OS, even on Windows because it is written in Java and thus platform independent.

There are four highly customisable algorithms in the tool, as well as an open-source implementation of RS Analysis (an extremely good steganalysis method). The tool has the additional advantage of being able to simulate hiding - so you can get an accurate map of where the information is hidden.

The compiled version can be run by simply double clicking the .jar file, or by running at a command line with the following options (you will need to run at the command line if you are using big pictures, such as those greater than 500x500 pixels or it will run out of memory):

java -jar -Xmx512m diit_1-1.jar

Where -Xmx512m tells the virtual machine to use 512MB of physical RAM (at most) - please change to suit your own machine specifications.

Printbill 4.2.0

Printbill 4.2.0

Printbill is a sophistocated Unix print billing and/or accounting system with associated administration utilities. more>>
Printbill is a sophistocated Unix print billing and/or accounting system with associated administration utilities. It primarily supports LPRng but now has limited CUPS support as well.
A simple print filter and accompanying daemon perform pre-printing billing, post-printing billing, print-accounting and print job quote generation. In addition, various utilities for administrators and users are provided - including programs to check your print quota and usage patterns, a web interface for both users and administrators and a command-line quote generator.
Charge rates may be specified on per-page, per-percent-coverage or both, and any number of printers/print queues can be provided (with different charge rates and printer parameters). Monochrome and CMYK colour printers are supported (with separate charge rates for both colour and black ink).
For all filters, processing can happen out-of-order, and you may prioritise jobs on the basis of size (jobs larger than a threshold can get lower priority or higher priority as desired) and jobs are billed in parallel / overlapping - jobs which finish billing first get printed first.
This is not necessarily the same as the order of arrival. Detailed stats are collected on a per-printer basis for job size, CPU time for each job, page count and ink/toner coverage, so you can analyse the usage patterns for your printers and predict when a cartridge will need to be replaced. It supports an optional user-supplied anything-to-postscript filter, so you can get properly billed for plain text, DVI files, image files, and so forth as well as PostScript.
Databases and configuration files may be stored on a centralised web server. This allows read-only access so that Unix (and conceivably Windows) clients could easily check quota, calculate quotes etc. remotely.
For fun, an additional filter is provided which allows users to deduct fixed amounts from their accounts (we use it to let students buy drinks and food from an unsecured laboratory fridge).
Enhancements:
- Finished support for per-user per-printer stats, tested that it works.

saml-registry 2005-11-08

saml-registry 2005-11-08

saml-registry is a SAML 2.0 Metadata management tool that is useful for building shibboleth-based federations. more>>
saml-registry is a SAML 2.0 Metadata management tool that is useful for building shibboleth-based federations.

The saml-registry is a j2ee-application intended as a federation management tool, primarily (but not exclusively) for use with shibboleth. Future versions will support full delegation of rights through container-based role-management. The current version relies on container-based authentication.
For convenience the current version of the sql database schema and a jboss datasource descriptor sample can be found here on the right.

Installation instructions

Download the ear-file from the maven repository and drop it in the deploy-directory of your jboss application server. This build has been tested with jboss 4.0.2 but later versions should work.

You may need to disable certain features in a standard jboss, notably the jboss-ws4ee.sar (which conflicts with webservices provided by saml-registry) - just remove it from the deploy directory. Newer versions of jboss may ship with included versions of myfaces and jsf. These files must also be removed from your jboss before deploying saml-registry (or you must repackage the application excluding these libraries from the ear).

Next create a datasource-file for the mysql datastore. The < jndi-name/ > must be set to jdbc/saml-registry. Now create the database (update the datasource file with the server, username and password). Drop this file next to the ear in the deploy-directory. Use the sql schema to populate the database.

Finally configure authentication and authorization for saml-registry. This is done in the container by editing the login-config.xml (for jboss). Create a security domain called saml-registry in login-config.xml. The attached login-config.xml contains a sample entry which is based on property-files. The UsersRolesLoginModule is described on the jboss wiki.

The authorization for saml-registry is also managed by the security domain using standard j2ee role-based security. The roles govern access to individual use-cases (represented by menu entries in the user interface). Future versions will add per-organizational access control to this basic framework so that management of entities can be delegated.

The use-cases and roles is documented by this usecase diagram. Once your security-domain is configured to serve these roles (by editing property-files or whatever) you should be able to point your browser to https://your-box.example.com/saml-registry and get the main menu (or a login page depending on how your security domain was setup).

Building from source

In order to build saml-registry from source (which can be obtained from the subversion repository) you need maven2 and java5 to build the sources. The saml-registry is based on an MDA toolchain called andromda. Normally maven2 should download and install all dependencies, however the user interface needs the jsf2 cartridge from the andromda plugins project which may not be distributed from the andromda maven repository. If maven2 complains about unresolved dependencies for jsf2 then checkout the andromda plugins project and build it manually.

Eikazo 0.5

Eikazo 0.5

Eikazo is a GTK and Python based frontend for Sane. more>>
Eikazo is a GTK and Python based frontend for Sane.
Main features:
- To maximize throughput, a new scan is started immediately after a former scan has been finished, if an automatic document feeder is used. Postprocessing and saving of the old scan is done, while the new scan is running.
- more than one output per scan is possible: You can simultaneously save the scanned image into a file and send it to a printer.
- plugin mechanisms for special devices features, for post-scan image processing and for other "storage options".
The device plugin mechanism allows to implement functions to support special device features.
Image enhancement plugins allow to automatically post-process the image. Currently, three plugins exist:
adaptive threshold
"dirt removal"
ImageMagick
The combination of adaptive threshold and dirt removal can give better scan results for "problematic" originals, for example, if you want to extract the text from a paper with "shaded background", from an stained original, or if you cant reliably predict the density of the ink of the text. See the sample images samples/1.tif (simple fixed threshold, set in the scanner), samples/2.tif ("automatic threshold" from another scanner), samples/3.tif (grayscale scan) and samples/4.tif (adaptive threshold).
The ImageMagick plugin is probably not very useful in many cases; some of the provided options are procesed very slow -- in other words: it is mostly intended to show how to integrate an external image filter than to be directly useful.

Stella 2.4

Stella 2.4

Stella is a multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS emulator released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). more>>
Stella is a multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS emulator.
Stella was originally developed for Linux by Bradford W. Mott, however, since its original release several people have joined the development team to port Stella to other operating systems such as AcornOS, AmigaOS, DOS, FreeBSD, IRIX, Linux, OS/2, MacOS, Unix, and Windows. The development team is working hard to perfect the emulator and we hope you enjoy our effort.
On this site youll find information about downloading, installing, using, and enhancing Stella. Youll also find useful information about the Atari 2600 and emulation.
Enhancements:
Added new video sub-system where fullscreen and windowed modes are treated
differently. Windowed modes now use -zoom_tia and -zoom_ui arguments,
while fullscreen modes can be specified by resolution using the new
-fullres argument.
- Widescreen video modes are now supported; Stella will simply center the
image with surrounding black borders.
- Many UI-related changes, including resizable ROM launcher and debugger
windows, and a new UI palette (the previous classic palette is still
available). This is still a work in progress.
- The locations of all major config files (statedir, palette file,
cheat file, properties file, etc) are now configurable from the
commandline and within the UI.
- Updates to TIA palette support. Added SECAM support, and removed the
built-in original palette. Standard, z26, and user are still
available.
- Various bugfixes to some debugger commands. The run command no
longer causes a crash, and several others have better error-checking.
- Added more complete cartridge auto-detection for Commavid (CV), 3E,
3F and Activision (FE) formats.
- Removed XStart and Width ROM properties, since the forthcoming TIA
rework wont be using them.
- Reworked internal storage of ROM properties to be faster and take up
less space.
- Added several different ways of stretching the OpenGL image to the
-gl_fsmax argument, for more flexibility.
- Removed OpenGL aspect ratio setting favour of the previously mentioned
video changes. Well see how this goes.
- Removed dirty-rect support from software rendering, since it was actually
sub-optimal in Windows and OSX and defaulted to off in previous versions.
- Added support for gzipped ROMs.
- Re-added pause support.
- Re-added support for Windows 98.
- Removed support for STELLA_BASEDIR environment variable, since each
config file can be now configured separately.
- Removed -fastscbios argument, since it must always be turned on.
- Removed PSP support, since it hasnt been updated in over a year, and
someone else is maintaining another port elsewhere.
- For the Unix/Linux port; fixed make install issues, and changed icon to
PNG format.

Inkblot reports on the remaining ink levels in a wide variety of USB and Parallel connected printers. more>>
Inkblot project reports on the remaining ink levels in a wide variety of USB and Parallel connected printers.

Inkblot provides an ink status notification, and can provide a more detailed dialog showing the level of ink remaining to your printer. Inkblot uses libinklevel to detect your printer on first run. Where available, the status of individual colour ink reservoirs is shown.

Inkblot lives in the notification area and gives a traffic-light indication of overall ink level status.

Clicking the icon gives more detail in the form of a dialog, and this can be expanded if your printer supports reporting on each colour reservoir. Inkblot should detect your printer automatically.

Synfig 0.61.06

Synfig 0.61.06

Synfig is a powerful, industrial-strength vector-based 2D animation software package. more>>
Synfig application is a powerful, industrial-strength vector-based 2D animation software package, designed from the ground-up for producing feature-film quality animation with fewer people and resources.

While there are many other programs currently on the market to aid with the efficient production of 2D animation, we are currently unaware of any other software that can do what our software can.

2D Animation has traditionally been very expensive because every frame must be drawn by hand. Even with todays digital inking and painting software, the process still relies on individuals hand-drawing each frame. This laborious task is called "tweening".

Our animation technology eliminates the task of manual tweening, producing smooth, fluid motion without the animator having to draw out each frame individually.
This allows you to produce 2D animation with fewer people while producing a product of a higher quality.

Please keep in mind that this release of Synfig Studio is considered a developer preview. IE: It is targeted at developers, not end users. That being said, feel free to play around with it -- just be sure to give it another chance later on down the road if you find yourself a bit frustrated.
