Red Hat Linux 9
Red Hat Linux is probably the best-known Linux distribution. more>>
Red Hat Linux is probably the best-known Linux distribution. Red Hat Linux is well-supported by commercial software, and tends to be easy to install and have good hardware support out of the box.
Compaq has taken over the maintenance for Red Hat for their Alpha processor - theres a link to their Alpha Red Hat page below.
Red Hat 9 is the last version of Red Hat Linux per se, and Red Hat will stop supporting it soon. Instead they offer a commercial Linux distribution, "Red Hat Enterprise Edition", and a free distribution, "The Fedora Project".

PCX Firewall 2.24
PCX Firewall is an IPTables firewalling solution. more>>
PCX Firewall is an IPTables firewalling solution that uses Perl to generate static shell scripts based upon the users configuration settings.
This allows the firewall to startup quickly, as it does not have to parse config files every time it starts.
Enhancements:
- All known bugs have been fixed. Support has been added for Debian Sarge and Red Hat FC[1-3] as "official" distributions to work with when generating init scripts. The ability has been added to just install the generated firewall script into /etc/init.d or /etc/pcx-firewall without starting it.

Kadet 2.09d
Kadet is a multi-purpose server written in C. more>>
Kadet is a multi-purpose server written in C. It is highly extensible, well written, equipped with a great set of libraries including scripting, persistent database, object memory management, etc. Its very easy to develop this application.
Although the modules are designed with portability in mind, currently Kadet will most probably work on Linux only since the current focus is workability. It has been tested on Red Hat 7.2 and 7.3.
Main features:
- Multi-threaded
- Easy configuration
- Easy to develop
- Built-in interpreter
- SSL
- Extensible
- a lot more
Enhancements:
- Finally added autoconf. Still missing a lot of platforms but it looks like a good start, hopefully.
- Now the executable is not run directly. Controlling the server is done through the shell script /opt/kadet/bin/kadet. The file /usr/bin/kadet is now a link to that script. The executable is /opt/kadet/bin/kadetex. After installing, try: "kadet" to display a help screen.

PHP firewall generator 2.0
The PHP Firewall Generator is a simple PHP script that generates a firewall script for iptables or ipchains based firewalls. more>>
The PHP Firewall Generator is a simple PHP script that generates a firewall script for iptables or ipchains based firewalls. The script is created based on configuration rules entered by the user. The aim is to support a rule set similar to those supported by commercial Firewall systems, and make it easy to configure.
Make sure that you have apache and PHP installed (tested with apache-1.3.19-5 and php-4.0.4 from Red Hat 7.1 but shouldwork with others).
Make sure that PHP is actually running.
Make sure that you have iptables installed. Tested with iptables-1.2.1a-1 from Red Hat 7.1
Run this as root:
make install
If you dont have make installed on your system, then you could just run:
installme
Make sure that the files in /var/www/html/phpfwgen/ are readable by the HTTP daemon user (often httpd or apache) and that the files in /var/lib/phpfwgen are readable AND writeable by this user.
The script gets copied into /var/www/html/phpfwgen/ so you should be able to access it as http:// /phpfwgen/
Make sure that the files created in /var/lib/phpfwgen make sense, particularly the "interfaces" file.

camwatch 0.2
camwatch is a very lightweight program for Unix / X Windows that fetches, displays, and optionally archives pictures from webcam more>>
camwatch is a very lightweight program for Unix / X Windows that fetches, displays, and optionally archives pictures from webcams.
It requires recent versions of imlib (not imlib2) and libcurl. I develop it under Red Hat Linux. I havent intentionally put anything Linux-specific into it, but I dont test it anywhere else, and Im not intimately familiar with the subtle differences between libcs and such, so YMMV.
camwatch works for me but poorly. It will probably work even worse for you. Let me know.
camwatch was originally written by cblack, but his website has disappeared and his last known email address bounces. So, Ive appropriated the project; if anyone knows this cblack and want to direct me to him, Id love to get in touch and see if he wants it back or wants to pass it to me more formally.
There are big future plans for camwatch, but I tend to do things in fits and spurts, so I finally decided to call my hackings version 0.1 and release it, so here it is. Update: Another fit and spurt; version 0.2 exists now.
Enhancements:
- Fixed broken -s flag for selecting archive dir
- Fixed bug where window was showing image previous to current
- Made s keystroke save current image without forcing reload
- Made window auto-resize to the actual size of fetched image
- Added verify_image; currently only checks that filesize != 0
- Added version and filename to window title

Current 1.7.6
Current is a server for Red Hats up2date tools. more>>
Current project is an open source implementation of a server to interact with the Up2date Agent shipped in Red Hat Linux.
Everything is implemented for a basic, anonymous only system. We are working to extend support for non-anonymous (fully managed) setups.
Main features:
- Production quality Up2date server for 2.7 to 4.4 clients with a Fedora Core 1, 2, 3, 4, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, or 4 server.
- Full SQL database backend.
- Web Interface in the devel series.
- As easy to setup for the admin as we can make it.
Enhancements:
- This version fixes errors in the channel scan code path that was nonfunctional in 1.7.5.
- This also includes code to reconnect to MySQL databases when the connection times out.
- The database also collects a bit more meta information about each client, and that is displayed in the TG web interface.

Thresh 1.5.0b
Thresh is an application for Snort that manages alert thresholding and suppression. more>>
Thresh is an application for Snort that manages alert thresholding and suppression. It was designed to assist the administrator with tuning one or more Snort sensors. The project was designed to run under Red Hat flavors of Linux.
It summarizes Snort Alerts by alert count, allows creation and editing of threshold.conf files, prunes your Snort database based on your tunings, and allows you to preview your alert suppressions before deletion.
Enhancements:
- DB queries were corrected.
- Database pruning based on suppression sets was added.
- A major code cleanup was undertaken.
- All errors with signature name queries were corrected along with all read/write calls to config files.
- The number of floating variables between POSTs on all pages was reduced. Descriptions were added to description boxes. Rule edit/delete options were added. Issues with alert counts were corrected.
- A cool way was devised to do CIDR block DELETEs and SELECTs in MySQL.

web-chpass 1.4
web-chpass utility allows users to change their account password through the web. more>>
web-chpass utility allows users to change their account password through the web. This package was written with security and flexibility as the primary concerns--and in that order. It runs on systems that use PAM to manage user authorizations. At this time, it has been tested only on Red Hat 7.2.
The web pages produced are completely customizable. The chpass.cgi utility contains no HTML. Instead, web pages are produced from an external template.

Metacity 2.18.5
Metacity is a lightweight window manager written by Havoc Pennington from Red Hat. more>>
Metacity is a lightweight window manager written by Havoc Pennington from Red Hat. The first version was 2.3, which was released in 2001. Metacity is implemented with the GTK+ 2.x toolkit, and so integrates well with the GNOME 2.x platform.
In fact the intention is to remove the traditional separation between window manager and desktop, and present to the user a single desktop interface.
This means that the limited configuration options available for Metacity are shown as desktop options, not as Metacity options (although there is an optional "Metacity-setup" panel which conflicts with this approach).
Enhancements:
This release fixes a problem with KDE applications appearing to request attention when the user switched workspaces.
- Only activate windows which change their startup ID if the new ID differs from the old. (Thomas) [#400167]
