The rcf Linux Firewall (aka rc.firewall) is an ipchains-based firewall. With support for over 50 network service modules (including vtun, dhcp, nfs, smb, napster, proxies, online games, etc.), masquerading, port forwarding, and ip accounting. All services are self-contained modules which can be prioritized in the ipchains stack.

Protections include spoofing, stuffed routing/masquerading, DoS, smurf attacks, outgoing port scans, and many more. rcf also supports unlimited public, private (masqued), dmz, and mz (non-masqued) interface and their subnets.

Access rules are defined per interface and dmz/mz server "clusters". rcf is compatible with Red Hat, Slackware, Debian, Linux Router Project (LRP), and many other distros.

Provided several updates, including: contributing 260-spop3-servers, 220-winvnc-servers, 620-arcserve-hosts, and netstorm (online game) modules, fixed a typo in 530-snmp-clients, fixed cluster handling in 030-pptp-clients and 030-pptp-servers, patched service_rules.sh to allow private IPs on DMZ interfaces, added missing rules to allow traffic from public interfaces to the DMZ, added the
--refresh-interfaces command line option, and fixed the jump rule problem which prevented private IPs from connecting to public interface IPs.

UserRC is a small program to run from rcNG to start or stop user processes at bootup and shutdown.

A feew checks are made on the scripts before they are executed:

1) Is the script owned by right person?
2) Are the file permissions restrictive enough?

A users RC files are placed in $HOME/rc.d and UserRC, after forking for the user, sets its UID to be that of the owner of the rc script.

A few security checks are performed, and the users rcNG scripts are run as the UID of the owner.

Installation

Compiliing:

Just type "make install"

Activiting:

Add:
$userrc_enable="YES"
to your /etc/rc.conf file

Running:

/etc/rc.d/userrc start :will start any user services as that user
/etc/rc.d/userrc stop :will stop all user services.

Grafist is a bandwidth utilization viewer. It gets the bandwidth utilization information for network interfaces from the /proc/net/dev file in 15-second periods, and stores it in four data files.
Run "grafist". This will wait the minute to be 0 in modula 5. The results may be seen at http://server_address/grafist/index.php. Also you can select the language at runtime like this "http://server_address/grafist/index.php?lang=LANGUAGE" where LANGUAGE is one of the languages that are supported by grafist.
If you want it to start automaticly when the system start, you should add "grafist &" to /etc/rc.d/rc.local or /etc/init.d/
Enhancements:
- defs.inc has been updated to defs.inc.php so that some parameters can be changed in this file
- Added the ability to set a scaling value for graphing at install time and run time (by editing defs.inc.php)
- Added the ability to set an integer value for viewing N times bigger of a graph when its image receives a click event (this value can be supplied at install time and run time (by editing defs.inc.php))

JLJ is Jerrys LiveJournal entry system. JLJ project It is very simple to use. Just setup a .livejournal.rc file in your home directory with your username and password, and run the jlj script.
It prompts you for your Subject and Body text, and sends it off.
If you have either the shell variable "EDITOR" ir "VISUAL"set, it will use that instead of the Old School BBS style editor.
It lets you make, edit and postpone entries on or offline. You can queue up posts to be submitted when you connect up to the net, or leave them in your postponed folder indefinitely.
It only requires the base install of perl and the socket libraries, which should be installed on most unix based systems. This might work on some ports of perl off of unix-based systems, but I highly doubt it will work.
Enhancements:
- This version adds support for "tags" and minor bugfixes over 2.9 and 2.10.

ABSTRACT

yEnc file-part database

A Convert::yEnc::RC object manages a database of yEnc file parts.

Applications pass the =ybegin, =ypart, and =yend lines from yEncoded files to the object, and it keeps track of the files, parts and bytes as they are received. The object reports errors if the sequence of =y lines is inconsistent.

Applications can query the object to find out what files, parts, and bytes have been received, and whether a given file is complete.

The database can be be saved to and restored from disk.

Linux Firewall is a robust, well-designed firewall for Linux 2.4 based on netfilter/iptables. The Projectfiles.com Linux Firewall is the swiss army knife of Linux firewall software. Based on the netfilter-iptables tools, the firewall is a single shell executable written in bash with configuration options and basic documentation included in the same file. It is designed for use with all types of systems: workstations, routers, and servers, and includes advanced features for expert users and Internet Service Providers.

Here are some installation tips:

1. Download the latest rc.firewall [wget http://projectfiles.com/firewall/rc.firewall]
2. Edit the options at the beginning of the file with your favorite text editor. The script comes pre-configured to deny all incoming connections. This is suitable for a typical workstation installation. Refer to the configuration page for in depth explanation of available options.
3. Make the script executable [chmod +x ./rc.firewall]
4. Become root [su]
5. Run the script [./rc.firewall]
6. After you verify that the firewall runs without errors, you may want it to be run automatically on boot. To accomplish this, move the script to the appropriate startup script directory for your distribution [/etc/rc.d/ for Slackware, /etc/init.d/ for Gentoo] and add the following lines in your startup scripts at some point after your ethernet interfaces are configured [for example /etc/rc.d/rc.local for Slackware, and /etc/conf.d/local.start for Gentoo].

If you are using this firewall on a machine to which you do not have physical access, but can reboot remotely (for example a collocated server or a Linux router at a computer illiterate friends house), you might want to think about putting in a short delay between the time the machine boots and the initialization of the firewall. This would give you a chance to log in and disable the firewall [chmod -x] if something goes wrong. A good example might be if you have the script configured to allow you to connect from a specific remote IP address and your address changes. If you choose to implement this idea, it can be done with the following code in rc.local:

Das_Watchdog is a program heavily and shamefully inspired by the rt_watchdog program made by Florian Schmidt.

However, this one has some improvements:

1. It works with 2.4 kernels as well as 2.6.
2. Instead of permanently setting all realtime processes to run non-realtime, das_watchdog only sets them temporary.
3. When the watchdog kicks in, an X window should pop up that tells you whats happening. (just close it after reading the message).

Usage:

Whenever a program locks up the machine, the watchdog temporarily sets all realtime process to non-realtime for 8 seconds. You will get an xmessage window up on the screen whenever that happens.

To test it, run the attached program "test_rt", which immediatley freezes your machine. However, a window should pop up after about 5-6 seconds telling you that the watchdog set the process to non-realtime.

Use the "--force" option to set the priority of all timer processes to SCHED_FIFO/99.

If the xmessage window does not show up, it can be because the user logged into the machine has the home area placed on a non-root mounted disk.

When that happens, root is unable to read the users .Xauthority file. Unfortunately,
I have no (good) solution for that situation. But if thats not the case, please
report the problem to me.
