PubSubHubbub_Publisher 1.0

PubSubHubbub_Publisher 1.0

A simple, open, web-hook-based pubsub protocol & open source reference implementation more>>

PubSubHubbub_Publisher 1.0 is yet another excellent utility for everyone. It is actually a simple, open, server-to-server web-hook-based pubsub (publish/subscribe) protocol as a simple extension to Atom.

Parties (servers) speaking the PubSubHubbub protocol can get near-instant notifications (via webhook callbacks) when a topic (Atom URL) they're interested in is updated.

This tool works as follow:

  1. An Atom URL (a "topic") declares its Hub server(s) in its Atom XML file, via . The hub(s) can be run by the publisher of the Atom, or can be a community hub that anybody can use.
  2. A subscriber (a server that's interested in a topic), initially fetches the Atom URL as normal. If the Atom file declares its hubs, the subscriber can then avoid lame, repeated polling of the URL and can instead register with the feeds hub(s) and subscribe to updates.
  3. The subscriber subscribes to the Topic URL from the Topic URLs declared Hub(s).
  4. When the Publisher next updates the Topic URL, the publisher software pings the Hub(s) saying that there's an update.
  5. The hub efficiently fetches the published feed and multicasts the new/changed content out to all registered subscribers.
  6. The protocol is decentralized and free. No company is at the center of this controlling it. Anybody can run a hub, or anybody can ping (publish) or subscribe using open hubs.
  7. To bootstrap this, the publisher has provided an open source reference implementation of the hub (the hard part of the protocol) that runs on Google App Engine, and is open for anybody to use.

SnowIsh provides a Mac-inspired icon theme.
Also greatly inspired by VannillA Cream Icon Set made by djnjpendragon.
Again, all done with inkscape.
Version restrictions:
- Beautiful icons, but the gtk-media-previous-ltr icon is missing from both the PNG and SVG sets (it should be a copy of gtk-media-next-rtl). Also, the Trash icon doesnt show up at large sizes - the fallback is used instead.
Enhancements:
- Add a PNG version (faster)

Pharago 1.0

Pharago 1.0

Pharago provides a nice Gnome (GTK+) theme. more>>
Pharago provides a nice Gnome (GTK+) theme.

Pharago is a mix of Gonxical for the style and Gnursid for the colours.

There is an alternative menubar for blended window manager themes :

Copy menubar-4blending.png to menubar.png to setup the new menubar
(copy menubar-default.png to menubar.png to get the default one back)

Clearlooks is an engine and it is easy to configure it to have different colour variations I suppose. Pharago is based on Gonxical just like Clarity is (pixmap themes) and it takes more time to change the colours because many pixmaps need to be redesigned !

Pipe-Sem 1.0

Pipe-Sem 1.0

This is a pipe based semaphore implementation for developing ASYNC applications. more>>

Pipe-Sem 1.0 is a good utility which might help you a lot in developing ASYNC applications. Many synchronization primitives are available for Unix systems, but any of them expose a pollable interface to the user. In these cases, if the caller execute a down operation on a blocking semaphore, the application will sleep and whole ASYNC loop will starve because of the wait.

To cope with this problem in ASYNC software, the publisher developed a pipe based semaphore implementation, called Pipe-Sem. The implementation is trivially simple and it uses the pipe internal mechanisms to expose a pollable wait interface.

Besides the standard semaphore operations, the function psem_down_fd() can be used to retrieve a files descriptor that can be dropped inside a Unix pollable API like select(2), poll(2) or epoll(2). The caller will have to wait for input events (POLLIN), and when receiving the event itself, the caller should invoke the psem_try_down() function to try to acquire the semaphore.

Please note that receiving an event from the pollable interface, does not mean that we acquired to semaphore, and the function psem_try_down() will have to be called (and tested for zero return code) to correctly complete the down operation.

DupeFinder 1.0.2

DupeFinder 1.0.2

DupeFinder is a simple application for locating, moving, renaming, and deleting duplicate files in a directory structure. more>>
DupeFinder is a simple application for locating, renaming, moving and deleting duplicate files in a directory structure.
Its perfect both for users who havent kept their hard drives very well organized and need to do some cleaning to free space, and for users who like to keep lots of backup copies of important data "just in case" something bad should happen.
Main features:
Although DupeFinder is a quite small application, it should have all of the features you will need to remove and reorganize large directories full of duplicate files:
- Well designed graphical interface with full tooltip and "Whats This?" question button support, useful in an application which you probably wont need to use frequently
- Quick processing by eliminating analysis of unwanted data through file extension filtering
- View files in external applications by double-clicking
- Rename files in place or move to new locations
- Default settings disallow deletion of all copies of duplicate files to prevent accidental data loss
- Generate simple reports identifying groups of duplicate files for later processing
While everything works pretty well in most cases, there are a few issues with DupeFinder to be aware of. I hope to fix most of the following bugs sometime soon:
- May crash if files containing "~" or ":" characters are encountered
- May crash if self referencing symlinks are encountered
- Zero byte files cannot be deleted
- May not be able to delete files with Unicode characters in filename
- Display does not update if identified duplicates are moved, renamed or modified external to DupeFinder

OpenWorld 1.0

OpenWorld 1.0

OpenWorld provides an icon theme for GNOME or KDE. more>>
OpenWorld provides an icon theme for GNOME or KDE.

It aims to follow FreeDesktop icon theme spec.

This icons collection was built gradually over couple of years. Icons were made for various purposes: StarOffice presentations, illustrations, design documents, OpenSolaris.org website, my blog etc.

Most of them were drawn while waiting in public places, like airports or bus stands or at home if dial-up connection goes down to trickling bytes. It is perhaps the most complete icon theme made on Java Desktop System. I havent tested it on other Gnome or KDE desktops.

In the introduction about this collection I mentioned its design principle. It is done using SVG which is quite object oriented and one could easily reuse items from icon in another icon. Finally icons were rasterized to PNG using rsvg(1)

All icons are original and they do not intend to copy icons from any other operating system or icon theme. These are released under CDDL open source license. Feel free to copy the ideas for other icon themes!

Filelight 1.0

Filelight 1.0

Filelight allows you to understand exactly where your diskspace is being used. more>>
Filelight allows you to understand exactly where your diskspace is being used by graphically representating your filesystem as a set of concentric segmented-rings.

Filelight creates a complex, but data-rich graphical representation of the files and directories on your computer. An example of Filelights representation of KDEs disk usage is shown below. It is important to understand that the full circle represents 143MB, and there are 143MB of files contained recursively in the directory.

Segments are sized relative to the files they represent. Directories have child-segments that represent the files in that directory. Hovering over any segment gives you details about the file it represents, such as its size.

The net-result is something similar to KDirStat, however the data is more dense, and the representation more informative. Most people tend to use Filelight to find out where their diskspace is concentrated, and this is what it is mostly designed to do.

Filelight is released under the GNU General Public License.
