Berkeley DB 4.6.18
Berkeley DB, the most widely-used developer database in the world. more>>
Berkeley DB (libdb) is a programmatic toolkit that provides embedded database support for both traditional and client/server applications. Berkeley DB includes b+tree, queue, extended linear hashing, fixed, and variable-length record access methods, transactions, locking, logging, shared memory caching, database recovery, and replication for highly available systems.
Berkeley DB delivers the core data management functionality, power, scalability and flexibility of enterprise relational databases but without the overhead of a query processing layer. Combined with the stability and lower support cost of open source code, Berkeley DB offers many advantages
DB supports C, C++, Java, PHP, and Perl APIs. It is available for a wide variety of UNIX platforms as well as Windows XP, Windows NT, and Windows 95 (MSVC 6 and 7).
Sleepycat Software makes Berkeley DB, the most widely used open source developer database in the world with over 200 million deployments. Customers such as Amazon.com, AOL, British Telecom, Cisco Systems, EMC, Google, Hitachi, HP, Motorola, RSA Security, Sun Microsystems, TIBCO and VERITAS also rely on Berkeley DB for fast, scalable, reliable and cost-effective data management for their mission-critical applications. Profitable since it was founded in 1996, Sleepycat is a privately held company with offices in California, Massachusetts and the United Kingdom.
Here are the advantajes of "Berkeley DB":
- Zero administration cost ? eliminates the need for a DBA;
- Smaller footprint (less than 500Kb);
- Simplicity of integration into an application;
- More speed and higher performance;
- Less complexity and more reliability.
Berkeley DB is distributed under an open source license that permits its use in open source applications at no charge. Proprietary vendors can purchase a proprietary license for Berkeley DB from Sleepycat Software.
Other important key features of "Berkeley DB":
- Includes complete source code.
- Small footprint ? less than 500 kilobytes.
- Extremely configurable: application controls the memory, disk, and other resource requirements of the database library.
- Easy-to-use APIs for applications written in C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, Tcl, PHP.
- Supports full transaction semantics, so that multiple changes can be applied or rolled back atomically.
- Survives software and hardware failures without losing data.
- Fine-grained locking allows thousands of users to work with a database at the same time.
- Replication for high availability keeps copies of the database synchronized across multiple servers. If the master or any replica goes down, one of the remaining replicas can take over.

RealVNC 4.1.2
RealVNC is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer. more>>
VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing.
The two computers dont even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home. VNC is freely and publicly available and is in widespread active use by millions throughout industry, academia and privately.
RealVNC is a UK company founded in 2002 by a team from the world-leading AT&T Laboratories in Cambridge. The company was established to commercially develop, enhance and promote VNC, the innovative remote access software with a widespread international user base.
VNC (Virtual Network Computing) software makes it possible to view and fully-interact with one computer from any other computer or mobile device anywhere on the Internet. VNC software is cross-platform, allowing remote control between different types of computer. For ultimate simplicity, there is even a Java viewer, so that any desktop can be controlled remotely from within a browser without having to install software.
VNC has a wide range of applications including system administration, IT support and helpdesks. It can also be used to support the mobile user, both for hot desking within the enterprise and also to provide remote access at home, or on the road. The system allows several connections to the same desktop, providing an invaluable tool for collaborative or shared working in the workplace or classroom. Computer support within the geographically spread family is an ever popular use.
The open source version of VNC has been freely available since 1998, and more than 50 million copies of the software have been downloaded. The software has also appeared on numerous magazine cover disks, and for several years all popular versions of Linux have included VNC. It is in active use by many millions in industry, commerce, education and at home. Virtually all Fortune 500 companies use VNC, and installations of VNC across thousands of workstations are commonplace.
Enhancements:
- FIXED: Security vulnerability.

DBIx::CGITables 0.001
DBIx::CGITables is a Perl module for easy DB access from a CGI. more>>
DBIx::CGITables is a Perl module for easy DB access from a CGI.
SYNOPSIS
use DBIx::CGITables;
my %parameters=();
my $query=DBIx::CGITables->new(%parameters));
$query->search_execute_and_do_everything_even_parse_the_template();
This module is under development - and this version is not tested very well. The documentation might not be completely in sync with the latest changes, and the documentation is not optimized for easy understanding at the moment. Sorry.
DBIx::CGITables is made for making database access through CGIs really easy.
Its completely template-oriented. The templates are in HTML::Template format. Some templates might be set up quickly by using DBIx::CGITables::MakeTemplates; see the doc for this module. Some web designer should fix the templates a bit.
The template approach might make the system a bit "static". Gerald Richter has another approach based upon HTML::Embperl (not published at the time I write this), if youd better like a more dynamic system. Anyway, I find it quite important not to mix HTML and code - the HTML documents should be easy to manipulate by non-technical web editors.
Ideally, HTML and (language-dependent) content should be splitted. I think such things might be done better by using Zope than cgis.
The database handling is done by DBIx::Recordset - this module gets its parametres first from a CGI query, then it might be overridden or completed by a parameter file, and the caller (your .cgi script or whatever) is also free to modify or add parameters.
Im hoping that anybody should get a working (though, probably ugly) CGI interface to any kind of database simply:
1. Run DBIx::CGITables::MakeTemplates (see the pod)
2. Create the script given above at SYNOPSIS
3. Set up the webserver correct.
4. If youre not satisfied with the look, try to edit the html templates.
5. If youre not satisfied with the functionality, try reading the rest of this documentation, and the DBIx::Recordset documentation.
6. If youre still not satisfied with the functionality and/or you find bugs, hack the code and submit the patches to the mailinglist and/or me and/or (if DBIx::Recordset is affected) Gerhard Richter. If youre not a perl hacker, or if you dont have time, send a mail about whats wrong and/or whats missing to the mailinglist anyway. Or privately to me if you dont want to write to a mailinglist.

Icecast 2.3.1
Icecast is a streaming media server which currently supports Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio streams. more>>
Icecast is a streaming media server which currently supports Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio streams.
Icecast can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between.
It is very versatile in that new formats can be added relatively easily, and it supports open standards for communication and interaction.
Enhancements:
New features:
- new tag < logsize > in < logging > state the trigger size (in KB) for cycling the log files.
- new tag < logarchive > in < logging > enable (1) if you want to use a timestamp for an extension when cycling logs.
Fixes:
- Handling of certain shoutcast source clients is fixed, this typically affected NSV source clients
- A race in source shutdown when listeners are authenticated could lead to server crash
- An audio glitch was possible in playback of vorbis streams when a new logical stream started (eg metadata update).
- stats speedup. Processing large numbers of stats was slow. Typically only seen when using lots of streams on the same server.
- 404 responses were being sent back in some places, now 403 is sent back.
- Auth URL now handles the authentication to scripts better.
- The order in which username/password are selected is
- 1. url is http://user:pass@host:port/....
- 2. < param name="username" > and < param name="password" >
- 3. with listener_add/remove, listener supplied username/password is used.
- A streams intro file can now be changed, using HUP, on active streams.
- mount without a name crashed the server
- Various documentation updates

Solipsis 0.10
Solipsis is a pure peer-to-peer system for a massively shared virtual world. more>>
Solipsis is a pure peer-to-peer system for a massively shared virtual world. There is no server at all: it only relies on end-users machines.
The shared virtual worlds of nowadays MMORPG strongly rely on privately owned servers. These servers are an expensive bottleneck that limits their scalability. In addition, these servers bound the freedom of the virtual world inhabitants and the imagination of the world-builders and developers. Solipsis solves these problems with a free and open-source system.
Solipsis is a public virtual territory. The world is initially empty and only users will fill it by creating and running entities. No pre-existing cities, habitants nor scenario to respect...
Solipsis is open-source, so everybody can enhance the protocols and the algorithms. Moreover, the system architecture clearly separates the different tasks, so that peer-to-peer hackers as well as multimedia geeks can find a good place to have fun here!
Enhancements:
- This is mainly a consolidation release, with some small new features.
- The profile plugin was moved into a separate "contrib" directory that is not in main distribution.
- Avatars are recursively preloaded from the "avatar" directory.
- Some sounds are played on a few events: when a peer appears or when a chat message is received.
- An option was added to cycle an avatar through all files of a directory on a periodic basis.
- Some memory consumption fixes in the node were made.

wapircgw 0.1.7
wapircgw helps you easily connect to irc networks using your wap browser on your mobile phone. more>>
wapircgw helps you easily connect to irc networks using your wap browser on your mobile phone. You just need a Linux box with internet connection to act as a gateway between your mobile phone and the irc network. You can join to multiple channels and talk to others privately like when you use a real irc client.
wapircgw consists of 2 cooperative pieces: wapircphp and wapircd.
wapircd is the daemon which handles connections to irc networks and requests from your mobile phone. wapircphp generates wml webpages that you can view with your mobile phone. So youll need a web-server application with PHP and MySQL support (ex. Apache). MySQL support is needed because of the user administration and settings storage.
Example: when a user logs in with his/her mobile phone, wapircphp communicates with wapircd, requesting a new irc connection to be made. So wapircd connects to the given irc server and joins the channels which the user gave in his/her settings. When the user logs out (or does nothing for a few minutes), wapircd closes the connection with the irc server.
Installation:
Dont forget to edit wapircd password in wapircd/src/config.h!
Then run ./configure and then make. PLEASE REMEMBER: you dont have to be root to run wapircd. Its more secure to run it as a single user. Youll find the wapircd binary in the src dir after running make, but if youre lazy you can run make install as root and itll place the binary in /usr/local/bin. Run wapircd -h for further options. You dont have to have write access in the directory you start wapircd, because everything is stored in memory.
After starting wapircd, copy the contents of the wapircphp directory to your website. Add the following table to your MySQL database:
CREATE TABLE `wapirc` (
`user` varchar(20) default NULL,
`pass` varchar(20) default NULL,
`ircserver` varchar(50) default NULL,
`ircport` varchar(5) default 6667,

`loglineslong` tinyint(3) unsigned NOT NULL default 100,
`allowrawirccmds` tinyint(1) NOT NULL default 0
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;
Enhancements:
- Host resolving did not work under Solaris; this has been fixed.
