Prey Dedicated Server 1.2

Prey Dedicated Server 1.2

Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. more>>
Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.
Prey is serious, dark story, based on authentic Cherokee mythology. Themes of sacrifice, love and responsibility are explored and the story dives into emotional territory not yet explored by similar games. You will find nothing familiar with this game.
Overview
In Prey, gamers enter an unpredictable world where nothing can be taken for granted. Most of the game takes place within a living ship, a giant entity that can sense and react to Tommys presence.
Prey makes use of Josephs Campbells renowned story structure, "The Heros Journey," for guiding the main character arc. Campbells extensive work on mythological story progression was made famous when George Lucas used it for Luke Skywalkers story arc in the original Star Wars.
Main features:
- Built on an enhanced Doom 3 engine, the most impressive 3D engine used in a released game.
- Portal technology adds a new dimension to gameplay, allowing enemies to appear out of thin air and create new and completely original puzzles and gameplay styles.
- Several never-before-seen gameplay elements such as Spirit Walking, Wall Walking, and Deathwalk.
- Highly organic, living environment that itself can attack Tommy.
- A deep, emotional story of love and sacrifice.
- Tommy has a sidekick, a spiritual hawk that can help him fight enemies and decipher the alien language of the living ship.
- Multiplayer game support that takes advantage of the unique gameplay styles in Prey.

Interbench 0.30

Interbench 0.30

Interbench is benchmark application is designed to benchmark interactivity in Linux. more>>
Interbench is benchmark application is designed to benchmark interactivity in Linux.
Interbench is designed to measure the effect of changes in Linux kernel design or system configuration changes such as I/O scheduler, cpu and filesystem changes and options. With careful benchmarking, different hardware can be compared.
What does it do?
It is designed to emulate the cpu scheduling behaviour of interactive tasks and measure their scheduling latency and jitter. It does this with the tasks on their own and then in the presence of various background loads, both with configurable nice levels and the benchmarked tasks can be real time.
How does it work?
First it benchmarks how best to reproduce a fixed percentage of cpu usage on the machine currently being used for the benchmark. It saves this to a file and then uses this for all subsequent runs to keep the emulation of cpu usage constant.
It runs a real time high priority timing thread that wakes up the thread or threads of the simulated interactive tasks and then measures the latency in the time taken to schedule. As there is no accurate timer driven scheduling in linux the timing thread sleeps as accurately as linux kernel supports, and latency is considered as the time from this sleep till the simulated task gets scheduled.
Each benchmarked simulation runs as a separate process with its own threads, and the background load (if any) also runs as a separate process.
Enhancements:
- This release adds options to select benchmarked loads, manpages, and documentation updates.

mod_xsendfile 0.9

mod_xsendfile 0.9

mod_xsendfile is a small Apache2 module that processes X-SENDFILE headers registered by the original output handler. more>>
mod_xsendfile is a small Apache2 module that processes X-SENDFILE headers registered by the original output handler.
If it encounters the presence of such header it will discard all output and send the file specified by that header instead using Apache internals including all optimizations like caching-headers and sendfile or mmap if configured.
mod_xsendfile is useful for processing script-output of e.g. php, perl or any cgi.
- Some applications require checking for special privileges.
- Other have to lookup values first (e.g.. from a DB) in order to correctly process a download request.
- Or store values (download-counters come into mind).
Benefits
- Uses apache internals
- Optimal delivery through senfile and mmap (if available).
- Sets correct cache headers such as Etag and If-Modified-Since as if the file was statically served.
- Processes cache headers such as If-None-Match or If-Modified-Since.
Installation:
- Grab the source.
- Compile and install
apxs -cia mod_xsendfile.c
- Restart apache

Getopt::Long::Descriptive 0.06

Getopt::Long::Descriptive 0.06

Getopt::Long::Descriptive is a Getopt::Long module with usage text. more>>
Getopt::Long::Descriptive is a Getopt::Long module with usage text.

SYNOPSIS

use Getopt::Long::Descriptive;
my ($opts, $usage) = describe_options($format, @opts, %arg);

FORMAT

$format = "usage: myprog %o myarg...";

%o will be replaced with a list of the short options, as well as the text "[long options...]" if any have been defined.

%c will be replaced with what Getopt::Long::Descriptive thinks is the program name (see "prog_name"). You can override this guess by calling prog_name($string) yourself.

Because of this, any literal % symbols will need to be written as %%.

OPTIONS

Option specifications are the same as in Getopt::Long. You should pass in an array of arrayrefs whose first elements are option specs and whose second elements are descriptions.

my @opts = (
[ "verbose|V" => "be noisy" ],
[ "logfile=s" => "file to log to" ],
);

Option specifications may have a third hashref argument. If present, this configures extra restrictions on the value or presence of that option.
You may cause a blank line to be printed by passing an empty arrayref. Likewise, a plain descriptive line will be printed if you pass an arrayref with a single element:

@opts = (
$option,
[],
[ other options: ],
$other_option,
);
