Crimson Fields 0.5.1

Crimson Fields 0.5.1

Crimson Fields is a tactical war game in the tradition of Battle Isle. more>>
Crimson Fields project is a tactical war game in the tradition of Battle Isle.

The outcome of the war lies in your hands. You decide which units are sent to the front lines, and when to unleash the reserves. Your mission objectives range from defending strategically vital locations to simply destroying all enemy forces in the area. Protect supply convoys or raid enemy facilities to uncover technological secrets or fill your storage bays so you can repair damaged units or build new ones in your own factories. Lead your troops to victory!

Tools are available to create custom maps and campaigns. You can also play the original Battle Isle maps if you have a copy of the game.

You can pit yourself against another human player either in hot-seat mode in front of the same machine or via e-mail, or against the computer.

Crimson Fields is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). It has been developed and tested on Intel architecture with Linux, but it shouldnt be too hard to make it compile and run on other operating systems as well. So far it has been reported to work with Linux, various flavours of BSD, Sun Solaris, MacOS X, BeOS, and MS Windows.

service menu management to kcontrol 2

service menu management to kcontrol 2

service menu management to kcontrol is a service menu suggested idea for kcontrol. more>>
I suggested a kcontrol option for enabling and disabling ACTIONS for different file types. This way, service menus would be installed and managed easier (if that control center window has that function too,it would be nice) aand maybe you will have the option to choose which actions that KIM (kde image service menu)(for example) is capable of is shown in your right click menu when you choose a jpg file...
Also an option to install the service menu just for the user that opened kcontrol (somewhere in /home/~/.kde/.../konqueror/services...) or for all users [the checkbox],requiring a root password (to copy the needed files in the needed by the service menu directories)...
Also the service menu management control center should have the option to move up and down a service menu in the -right-click-ACTIONS> sub menu.
There should be the option to pick selectably the submenus from the installed service menu and add only the ones you would like to have for the file type(for instance you can add kim-resize picture and under it you can take a submenu from a k3b service menu (add to data disc) and put it right under it for the jpg filetype (see the screenshot).
Some service menus,like kims selected "webexport" should have a > sign at the end of their names,showing that they have an included submenu,that cannot be picked/changes sepparatelly.So if web export is added,you dont have the option to pick which webexport options should be included in the web export submenu (we have to have some borders,right?)..
Another suggestion is that if a service menu is installed for all users (using the root password),it should be marked with red fonts in the service list and if promped for uninstallation,it should ofcourse ask for the root password.
And...since the kde service menus were handled the old fashionate way since this idea popped into my mind (with install.sh scripts that coppied a bunch of files,orr by hand with a READme instruction (which is a pain in the neck really)),service menus should be able to be installed the old fashionate way too,but they should be packed in special kde service menu packages,that are handled by kcontrol.This would greatly improve kdes support for service menus.
This will also resolve the clutterness/bloatness that some service menus tend to create,giving the choice in the hands of the user as to what from the service menu he/she would like to be included in the right-click menu.
Enhancements:
- added a new mockup,which is more simple and intuitive

poker-engine 1.0.25

poker-engine is a Python library that implements poker rules. more>>
poker-engine is a C library to evaluate poker hands. The result of the evalution for a given hand is a number. The general idea is that if the evalution of your hand is lower than the evaluation of the hand of your opponent, you lose.
Many poker variants are supported (draw, holdem, omaha, etc.) and more can be added. poker-eval is designed for speed so that it can be used within poker simulation software using either exhaustive exploration or Monte Carlo.
Enhancements:
- Implementation of tournament breaks and bugfixes.

AndyChat 3.00

AndyChat 3.00

AndyChat is a program for chatting to people over various network protocols. more>>
AndyChat is a program for chatting to people over various network protocols. It was originally designed as a chat program which can work only on IPX networks. Now its fast becoming a command line Curses based IRC client which will eventually have all the features of AndyChat v2.xx minus the IPX code, and will have additional features including support for all the Instant Messenger systems I can get my hands on, starting with ICQ, and also several Java/Web chat backends (for users to participate in Yahoo! Web Chats, etc from the console!).

Also, since AndyChat v3.xx is written in Perl, it should be theoretically possible to keep it cross-platform, although good luck in getting it to work on Win.

Gentoox Home 5.0

Gentoox Home 5.0

Gentoox is an adaptation of the popular Linux distribution called Gentoo. more>>
Gentoox Linux is an adaptation of the popular source based Linux distribution called Gentoo. Gentoox Home retains all the features of the original (portage, sysvinit etc...) but has a patch system created from the ground up, by myself, which is specifically designed for Gentoox.

"Magic" (as I have labelled it) allows users to install new software, upgrade their kernel and fix bugs. To learn more about magic, run "magic usage" once you have installed Gentoox.

Gentoox runs along side games - you get 3 choices during installation: E, F and Native. Both E and F create a loopback filesystem meaning that none of your drives are formatted during installation (except for cache partitions). If you choose "Native", then your F: partition is formatted to ReiserFS (making it inaccessible to Xbox applications).

Gentoox can be loaded via a .xbe file, or from a Cromwell based BIOS (which can be flashed to your modchip during installation). When using E or F installations, you are totally risk free - if you dont like Gentoox, simply delete all the files it installs (about 7 in total) and its gone.

There are three versions of Gentoox: Pro Edition, Home Edition and Media Center Edition. All three are 100% free and opensource, the difference between Home and Pro is that the Home Edition has many software packages preinstalled and preconfigured for instant usablity straight out of the box where as Pro doesnt even have a graphical user interface let alone any "useful" applications.

Pro is a bare minimum installation for booting the system, the entire customisation of the OS is left in the users hands with Pro. Media Center edition is more of a "Plugin" than a separate distribution. It allows you to have a Media Center along with Gentoox Home or Pro.

Geography::Countries 1.4

Geography::Countries 1.4

Geography::Countries is a Perl module with 2-letter, 3-letter, and numerical codes for countries. more>>
Geography::Countries is a Perl module with 2-letter, 3-letter, and numerical codes for countries.

SYNOPSIS

use Geography::Countries;

$country = country DE; # Germany
@list = country 666; # (PM, SPM, 666,
# Saint Pierre and Miquelon, 1)

This module maps country names, and their 2-letter, 3-letter and numerical codes, as defined by the ISO-3166 maintenance agency [1], and defined by the UNSD.

The country subroutine.

This subroutine is exported by default. It takes a 2-letter, 3-letter or numerical code, or a country name as argument. In scalar context, it will return the country name, in list context, it will return a list consisting of the 2-letter code, the 3-letter code, the numerical code, the country name, and a flag, which is explained below. Note that not all countries have all 3 codes; if a code is unknown, the undefined value is returned.

There are 3 categories of countries. The largest category are the current countries. Then there is a small set of countries that no longer exist. The final set consists of areas consisting of multiple countries, like Africa. No 2-letter or 3-letter codes are available for the second two sets. (ISO 3166-3 [3] defines 4 letter codes for the set of countries that no longer exist, but the author of this module was unable to get her hands on that standard.) By default, country only returns countries from the first set, but this can be changed by giving country an optional second argument.
The module optionally exports the constants CNT_F_REGULAR, CNT_F_OLD, CNT_F_REGION and CNT_F_ANY. These constants can also be important all at once by using the tag :FLAGS.

CNT_F_ANY is just the binary or of the three other flags. The second argument of country should be the binary or of a subset of the flags CNT_F_REGULAR, CNT_F_OLD, and CNT_F_REGION - if no, or a false, second argument is given, CNT_F_REGULAR is assumed. If CNT_F_REGULAR is set, regular (current) countries will be returned; if CNT_F_OLD is set, old, no longer existing, countries will be returned, while CNT_F_REGION is used in case a region (not necessarely) a country might be returned. If country is used in list context, the fifth returned element is one of CNT_F_REGULAR, CNT_F_OLD and CNT_F_REGION, indicating whether the result is a regular country, an old country, or a region.

In list context, country returns a 5 element list. To avoid having to remember which element is in which index, the constants CNT_I_CODE2, CNT_I_CODE3, CNT_I_NUMCODE, CNT_I_COUNTRY and CNT_I_FLAG can be imported. Those constants contain the indices of the 2-letter code, the 3-letter code, the numerical code, the country, and the flag explained above, respectively. All index constants can be imported by using the :INDICES tag.

The code2, code3, numcode and countries routines.
All known 2-letter codes, 3-letter codes, numerical codes and country names can be returned by the routines code2, code3, numcode and countries. None of these methods is exported by default; all need to be imported if one wants to use them. The tag :LISTS imports them all. In scalar context, the number of known codes or countries is returned.

Games::Cards 1.45

Games::Cards 1.45

Games::Cards is a Perl module for writing and playing card games. more>>
Games::Cards is a Perl module for writing and playing card games.

SYNOPSIS

use Games::Cards;
my $Rummy = new Games::Cards::Game;

# Create the correct deck for a game of Rummy.
my $Deck = new Games::Cards::Deck ($Rummy, "Deck");

# shuffle the deck and create the discard pile
$Deck->shuffle;
my $Discard = new Games::Cards::Queue "Discard Pile";

# Deal out the hands
foreach my $i (1 .. 3) {
my $hand = new Games::Cards::Hand "Player $i" ;
$Deck->give_cards($hand, 7);
$hand->sort_by_value;
push @Hands, $hand;
}

# print hands (e.g. "Player 1: AS 2C 3C 3H 10D QS KH")
foreach (@Hands) { print ($_->print("short"), "n") }

$Hands[1]->give_a_card ($Discard, "8D"); # discard 8 of diamonds

This module creates objects and methods to allow easier programming of card games in Perl. It allows you to do things like create decks of cards, have piles of cards, hands, and other sets of cards, turn cards face-up or face-down, and move cards from one set to another. Which is pretty much all you need for most card games.

AjaxVTT a1

AjaxVTT a1

AjaxVTT is a Virtual Table Top utility for multi-user, web-based battle mapping. more>>
AjaxVTT is a "Virtual Table Top" utility for multi-user, web-based battle mapping.

For quite some time I have wanted a way to play old-school, table-top, books-and-dice roll playing games online. Ive looked at the packages out there (oh, mine is far from the only one) and found them all... lacking in a way. Theres nothing Ive come across that happens to do exactly what I want. So, like any developer with too much time on his hands, I decided to make my own.

AjaxVTT is not my first attempt at Internet gaming software. In fact, Ive prototyped several VTT systems over the last four or so years, but never really finished any of them. Ive also looked at several open source VTT packages and thought about contributing... but for various reasons never did or was never able to.

So what does AjaxVTT do? Its a graphical web-based battle map. No unnecessary bells and whistles, just simple solid functionality thats as close to the real table top experience as possible. In addition to the "battle map," AjaxVTT features a chat system with voice, video, and macros (for things like rolling dice) and very little else.

I first got the idea to create this software when the whole concept of whats being called "Web 2.0" was just starting to develop, and ajax technology was only beginning to find its way into mainstream use. I decided, "hey, what if I took a web-app and integrated d-n-d (drag and drop, not the other definition) functionality with ajax functionality? What would I get?" Turns out, you do that, you get something pretty cool. AjaxVTT is actually the second program Ive written to use this combination (the first was a sort of wiki that let you drag elements around the page, sorta like a web-based MS Power Point.)

Now, I know a lot of people who would cry out that a web page is hardly the place to build out a complex, interactive mutli-user application like this. In fact, I sorta agree with that - web technology is hacky, old, buggy, bloated, slow, and unreliable. The fact that it powers as much as it does, and has been built up as much as it has is really kinda impressive. But the bottom line is that, as much as PHP and Javascript are lousy choices to write functional thin client applications in... the end result does work. And its hellaconvenient to tell an end-user "just go to this URL and youre done." No "pc or mac?" no "install this", no downloads (though, I do have to admit it only works in Mozilla-type browsers right now... open standards my butt).

AjaxVTT is still young and only partially complete. Ive released the code under the GPL even though Im not really sure what I really want to do with the project. Truth be told, I dont actually game that much anymore, and a big part of the effort was just to have done it. Not to do it because it could be done, but because Im learning a lot as I go, and because there arent a lot of ajax apps that do something similar to what Im doing. And thats cool. Its enough to keep me motivated.

Plait 1.5.2

Plait 1.5.2

Plait is a new way to find and play music from the command line. more>>
Plait (pronounced "play") is a new way to find and play music from the command line. Plait understands brief, easy to type queries that pick a single song, mix queries that combine works from multiple artists, and stream queries that find Shoutcast radio streams.
A variety of filters are available to pick just the music you want to hear. In order to actually play the music it finds, plait hands off a play list to one of the supported music players. The end result is that you can type commands like
plait "miles davis"
plait --mix mingus monk metheny
plait --stream salsa
plait --mixfile punk
and plait will seek out cuts from your library, or radio streams, and play them in your music player. Plait uses UNIX as a compatibility layer to target X Window, Windows with Cygwin, and OS X.
One of Plaits design goals is to support embedded Linux and streaming audio, suitable for NAS media servers like the Buffalo Linkstation and the Linksys NSLU2.
Enhancements:
- Release 1.5.2 introduces an improved installer. It is now possible to install Plait without root privileges, in which case it installs in your home directory by default. If you install as root, Plait now installs to /usr/local by default rather than /usr. This is probably what most people want. In either case, you can override the default by providing an install directory as an argument to the install command. Also in this release, minor bugs are fixed in the XSPF web publishing feature.

PvPGN 1.7.9

PvPGN 1.7.9

Player vs. Player Gaming Network is a bnetd-based gaming network server emulation project. more>>
PvPGN (Player vs Player Gaming Network) is free software that emulates a Blizzard Battle.net server. PvPGN project currently supports all Battle.net games, such as StarCraft, Diablo II, and Warcraft III, and gives you the power to run your own server, manage your own users, run your own tournaments, etc.
Some common uses of a PvPGN server:
- When wanting to have a small community with local users and small ladders (lots of internet cafes do that)
- For people who want to play on a LAN but with Battle.net-like statistics
- For people who find Battle.net too slow or laggy and want to play on a local server with no lag
It puts you as a "System Administrator" in control. Use a PvPGN server to host your own LAN parties or put the server online and on the internet for everyone. You can run tournaments, have your own local competition ladders. The power is in your hands.
Enhancements:
[D2CS/D2DBS]
- added pid files to the confs
- fixed a bug where server could not be (un)installed as a win32 service
- added check and modified the default motd to not have a too big motd that was crashing the clients just after character selection
[VERSIONCHECK]
- added SC/BW 1.13c entries
- added SC/BW 1.13d entries
- added SC/BW 1.13e entries
- added W3 1.20a entries
[SQL]

Gnono 1.9.1

Gnono 1.9.1

Gnono is a rewrite of the Windows card game WUNO for GNOME. more>>
Gnono is a rewrite of the Windows card game WUNO for GNOME. Gnonos objective is to discard all of ones cards before the opponent does.
Cards are discarded by matching the value or color of the top discard or by playing a wild card.
HOW TO PLAY
Each player picks a card. The person with the highest value card plays first. (not yet implemented)
Each player is dealt either 7 or 11 cards, depending on the chosen preferences. (not yet implemented) The remainder of the cards are placed face down on the pick-up pile, and the top card of the pick-up pile is turn over onto the discard pile.
Play starts in a clockwise direction. The player, whos turn it is, has to play a card which matches the card on the discard pile. This played card then becomes the new topmost card on the discard pile. The card played must match the card on the discard pile by either function (i.e. number) or colour (pattern). Alternatively, the player can play a wild card.
If the player does not have a card which they can play, they must take a card from the pick-up pile. If they can play the card they have picked up, they may, otherwise they keep it and play moves to the next player.
The same applies if the player does have a card they can play, but chooses not to.
PLAYING OUT
Once a player has played all their cards, the current round is over, and the winning player gets the sum of the points in the oppenents hands added to their current score. If the player has reached the playout score, they win the game, otherwise play starts again with the next round.
During play, if all the cards have been taken from the pick-up pile, the deck is shuffled and play continues.
Enhancements:
- Migrate all deprecated GTK+ APIs.
- Implement GnomeGoals/PoLinguas.
- Reverse card acts as Skip in two-player game.
- Make one "Points to Win" field showing the playout score instead of individual fields showing points remaining to win.
- Added man page.
