JWebPresenter 1.3

JWebPresenter 1.3

JWebPresenter project is a bitmap-image based Web presenting system. more>>
JWebPresenter project is a bitmap-image based Web presenting system.
It can add a Web extension to your favorite presentation tool, such as PowerPoint, MagicPoint, or Impress.
This is useful in distance learning, meeting, conferencing, and other situations.
It uses bitmap images to avoid compatibility problems. Other features include platform independence and simplicity.
Main features:
- Bitmap image based presenting: Hence we have no compatibility problem related to character corruption, locale, font, ... You can (and you must) use an authoring tool (e.g., PowerPoint, OpenOffice, MagicPoint, etc) to create the slides, then export into images to be presented with JWebPresenter.
- Platform independent: Any system satisfying the requirements should be OK, including Linux PC, Windows PC, PDA Sharp Zaurus SL-C760 (JWebPresenter SS v1.0x).
- Simplicity: I believe simple thing should be done simply. JWebPresenter SS v1.2.1 package (tar.gz) is only 36KB, including source, pre-compiled binarary, document, sample, and a 18KB (uncompressed size) license called GPL!
- Protocol and Image format independent: All protocols and image formats supported by JRE (Java Runtime Enviroment) should be OK.
- Efficience: There is little overhead in JWebPresenter.

SuperShow is a project which allows you to create, from a PDF file and an audio/video file, slideshows with syncronized audio.

Imagine this scenario: you do a conference, with a set of slides created with Impress, PowerPoint or other tool. Someone (maybe you) recorded it as only audio, to make it available in the net. Unfortunately it lacks the slides, so people who download the audio will have to get them separately and try to imagine when to change to the next picture.

With a video recording theres the problem that, usually, the slides are quite unreadable, unless high bitrates are used and the camera set near the screen.

Here is where SuperShow comes. With it you can take your slides (exported to PDF) and your audio/video recording, and mix them in a single, small size, Adobe Flash file, which can be played from the net or downloaded to be seen locally. SuperShow allows you to easily sincronize the audio and the slide transitions and insulates you from the complexity of creating Flash files from Linux with SWFtools (ok, its not so complex, but requires you to use the keyboard :) .

ppsei 0.1

ppsei is a simple command line program, which tries to extract images from Microsoft PowerPoint documents. more>>
ppsei short from PPS Extract Images is a simple command line program, which tries to extract images from Microsoft PowerPoint documents (PPS/PPT).

Because i get a lot of mails with attached PPS/PPT in, containing some nice images (about universe, about pretty girls, etc). The sender people are using this file format as an image-container, or image-encapsulator.

They could use tar/zip/..., but somehow PPS is the general. On *nix systems only resource-consume application can handle this file formats (openoffice, wine + win.exe), so i decided to write this tool.

Currently only JPEG and PNG files can be extracted. Because the PPS file format is not so well-documented as the gnumeric :-), there is no guarantee, that all images will be grabbed correctly. But the experience is, that it works!

As i said, this is a command line program: you can call it from SHELL (or from favorite email software). It takes only the PPS file(s) as argument, and will extract all detected images to the current directory:

$ ppsei universe.pps beauty-islands.ppt
...
$ gqview (start here some image viewer application, to see the result)

Photorec 6.6

Photorec 6.6

PhotoRec is a small tool to recover pictures from digital camera memory. more>>
PhotoRec is a small tool to recover pictures from digital camera memory. Photorec software searches for MOV and JPEG headers, and because there is (usually) no data fragmentation, it can recover the whole file.
It can recover data from CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SecureDigital, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, USB Memory Drives...
PhotoRec is safe to use, it will never attempt to write to the drive or memory support you are about to recover from. Recovered files are instead written in the directory from where you are running the PhotoRec program.
Photorec ignores the filesystem, this way it works even if the filesystem is severely damaged.
It can recover lost files at least from:
- FAT,
- NTFS,
- EXT2/EXT3 filesystem
Digital Camera
PhotoRec has been successfully tested with:
- Canon EOS300D, 10D
- HP PhotoSmart 620, 850, 935

BasicLinux 3.50

BasicLinux 3.50

BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. more>>
BasicLinux is designed specifically for old PCs. It uses a small kernel and busybox to provide a low-RAM Linux, capable of browsing the web, doing email, and functioning as an X terminal.

The current release of BasicLinux is particularly suitable for old laptops -- it has PCMCIA capability and includes MagicPoint (a presentation tool similar to PowerPoint).

The current release of BasicLinux is 3.32. BasicLinux comes in two versions: one boots from a DOS harddrive, the other boots from floppies. Both versions have the option to install themselves to a Linux partition on the harddrive.

BasicLinux has a slim IDE kernel and a small set of common modules. If you need a more capable kernel and/or additional kernel modules, you should get them from Slackware 7.1. You will find kernels in the /kernels directory and modules in the /modules directory.

Criawips 0.0.11

Criawips project aims to create a full featured presentation application that integrated smoothly into the GNOME desktop. more>>
Criawips aims to become a full featured presentation application that offers the perfect platform both for small presentations used to explain a few things to other people and for big presentations used for commercial presentations.

Thus it should become easy to use, provide a good integration with other applications to become a presentation platform that can compete with commercial applications like MS PowerPoint, StarOffice Impress and Apples Keynote.

Since version 0.0.10, criawips supports text editing. Its yet very basic, but its going to be improved pretty much with the next releases.

This was the first big step towards creating presentations with criawips. Now the editing capabilities are going to be improved and then we can work on the template infrastructure to provide layouting.

ImageServer 0.5

ImageServer 0.5

ImageServer is a software for maintaining archives of images. more>>
ImageServer is a software for maintaining archives of images. Theres much software available to manually view, categorize and search images. ImageServer was designed to solve a different problem:
Imagine being a photographer or photo agency: You have a lot of images in many formats, all stored in a directory structure - your archive.
This creates at least two problems:
- The archive may contain different images with the same name. What do you do when a customer orders "flowers.tif" and this name exists in twenty different subfolders in your archive?
- The customer doesnt need your original 22megapixel 16-bit tiff file for his powerpoint presentation or layouting, he wants a small jpeg instead.
The first problem can be managed by assigning unique names to images every time an image is put into the archive.
The second problem is a little more difficult. Youll have to convert the requested images to smaller JPEGs. After doing that for too many times, you start caching the small JPEGs so you wont have to convert again for the next customer asking for that image. But then, you edit the original image and forget to update the JPEGs. Furthermore, its not enough to keep these resized jpegs for presentations, your customers graphics department also wants correctly downsampled eps images for layouting advertisements in QuarkXPress. So you start having two slaveArchives - one with JPEG and one with EPS images - and spend half of your day trying to synchronize the three.
ImageServer solves both problems automatically. It is a program with a nice GUI, configured to watch your masterArchive. As soon as images are put into any subfolder, theyll be assigned unique names if necessary. Afterwards, each image is read, and for each defined slaveArchive, a preview is created and saved. The same happens when an image in the masterArchive is altered. All this works completely automatically, theres nothing youll have to do; the GUI is just for being able to watch whats happening.
Main features:
- Input file checking: as soon as an image is put into the archive, ImageServer checks the extension to see whether it really is an image. If not, it is put into a specified folder outside of the archive.
- If configured to do so, an image without a suiting name is assigned a new name which is constructed of both the subfolders it resides in and a unique-per-subfolder serial number of arbitrary length.
- When detecting a change in the masterArchive, ImageServer can play a sound.
- When starting to convert an image, ImageServer can play a sound.
- ImageServer can remember the names it has already assigned to images in the past. This way, names assigned to an image A will never be assigned to another image B after A has been deleted.
- Any number of slaveArchives can be defined, and they can be in any location.
- Each defined slaveArchive can have completely different settings for the images that will populate it. Resizing or resampling? RGB or CMYK? Jpeg, EPS, PNG or TIFF?
- You can choose whether each slaveArchive should inherit the exact same directory structure from the masterArchive or whether the slaveArchives images should all be put into the same folder.
- In case dazuko missed something, you can tell imageserver to manually look into a folder. It can then either process all images in that folder or only those where slaveArchive-images are missing.
