Postal is a SMTP and POP benchmark suite. more>>
Postal suite currently consists of two programs, Postal and Rabid. Postal (the mad postman) is a program that will deliver mail as fast as possible via the SMTP protocol to test mail server performance.
Rabid (the mad Biff) will eat mail via the POP protocol as fast as possible and measure POP server performance. All messages sent via Postal have MD5 checksums appended, and Rabid will check the MD5 to ensure that the messages are not being corrupted.
It works by taking a list of user names and applying random transformations to them to get the FROM and TO addresses, this is because if each email address takes 30 bytes of storage then 1,000,000 accounts would take 30M of RAM. 3,000,000 accounts would take 90M of RAM which would be more than the memory in my test machine (this would cause thrashing and make the benchmark invalid), and it would take ages to load all that data from the hard drive. Using 100,000 accounts and applying a transformation to map them to 30M accounts is a much more efficient use of resources.
When sending the mail the subject and body will be random data. A header field X-Postal will be used so that procmail can easily filter out such email just in case you accidentally put your own email address as one of the test addresses. ;)
For Debian the best thing to do is to do "apt-get install postal", if you dont want to use the version supplied with your version of Debian you can build a Debian package in the usual manner.
Change to the directory containing the unpacked source and use the command:
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -tc -us
That will create a .deb in the parent directory.
For Red Hat etc there is a portslave.spec file to allow for building with
the "rpm -b" command.
For Solaris use the command "make -C sun" to build a package in /var/spool/pkg
(make sure you have write access to that directory).
For other Unix setup "./configure ; make install" should do an install.

PhotoGallery is simple and easy to use image gallery software that automatically generates image thumbnails. It is written in PHP and uses Smarty for display and GD2 for image manipulation.
It is small and simple, and can be easily integrated into existing Web sites and software. Language files allow users to easily add localized text, which is automatically selected by PhotoGallery on a per-hit basis based on Web browser headers.
Enhancements:
- PhotoGallery2 no longer uses Smarty for templating. A new system, Souken Templating Engine, has replace it. This resutls in a much smaller distribution and easier set up. STE as bundled with PG2 does not include any documentation. This will be released with STE when it is officialy released in the near future.
- Scaling code has been altered to allow for "target dimensions". Images which are scaled (thumbnails and scale views, discussed in a moment) that are over the target dimensions will now allways be the exact specified target dimensions. If you have a 16:9 image and 4:3 thumbnail dimensions, the thumbnail will be in 4:3 instead of 16:9 as in the previous system. If this sounds confusing, images will be CROPPED and scaled to match thumbnail size AND dimensions. You may now specify width and height dimensions seperately.
- "Full" views of images are now scaled. You can specify scale dimensions in pg.ini. This keeps images to a uniform maximum size. Clicking on a scaled view image links directly to the image on the server. This allows visitors to see "big" images without breaking your site layout / scrolling. Scaled images shown this way are always saved at 100% quality.
- Thumbnails are now saved in file names with target dimensions. Please clear out your thumbnails directory when upgrading to prevent duplicate files. If you have target thumbnail dimensions of 144x108, the thumbnail image for "picture.ext" would be saved as "picture.ext-144x108.jpeg". Note that target dimensions are maximums, and images may actualy be smaller than the specified target dimensions.
- There have been some assorted code improvements in PG2 to improve performace and decrease memory usage.
- Many features planned have not made it into this release. They are targeted for the next release of PG. If you suggested a feature that has not yet shown up, this may still be on the list.

bandwidth monitor is a small application which polls /proc/net/dev for the byte counts for a given network device , and calculates the RX and TX bandwidths. Originally a shell script, then a Perl script, now rewritten in C so that it can easily be used on embedded devices like the Linksys WRT54G as well as.
This program started as a shell script that I ran on my home-brew firewall wireless router (Linux, of course, on a 486/66) to keep track of my incoming and outgoing bandwidth. This let me know that I was getting the bandwidth that I paid for, and it also helped me keep an eye on the throttling of bulk traffic so that I didnt choke out my interactive sessions. Of course, that was before I had QOS.
The program is probably tied to Linux, since it grabs the byte counts for the requested interface right from /proc/net/dev. It could pretty easily be modified to grab the same information from the output of /sbin/ifconfig, but that would waste resources to spawn a new process to parse the /proc/net/dev file and regurgitate it to us. Also, I havent bothered to look at how uniform the output of the byte counts from /sbin/ifconfig is on other operating systems.
As a side note, the C version also uses nanosleep() and gettimeofday() to get more accurate polling intervals and track the overall time (since sleep(), usleep(), nanosleep(), et. al. only guaruntee to wait at least as long as you request, but do not guaruntee that it wont be possibly much longer...) So, if you were interested in porting it, youd have to make sure that nanosleep() and gettimeofday() were also available, or lose the resolution of the time used in bandwidth calculations.

HTML TIDY is a free utility to fix mistakes made while editing HTML and to automatically tidy up sloppy editing into nicely layed out markup. It also works great on the atrociously hard to read markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities.
When editing HTML its easy to make mistakes. Wouldnt it be nice if there was a simple way to fix these mistakes automatically and tidy up sloppy editing into nicely layed out markup? Well now there is! Dave Raggetts HTML TIDY is a free utility for doing just that. It also works great on the atrociously hard to read markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities.
Tidy is able to fix up a wide range of problems and to bring to your attention things that you need to work on yourself. Each item found is listed with the line number and column so that you can see where the problem lies in your markup. Tidy wont generate a cleaned up version when there are problems that it cant be sure of how to handle. These are logged as "errors" rather than "warnings".
Dave Raggett has now passed the baton for maintaining Tidy to a group of volunteers working together as part of the open source community at Source Forge. The source code continues to be available under an open source license, and you are encouraged to pass on bug reports and enhancement requests at http://tidy.sourceforge.net.

The general idea is to assume you can construct a set of mp3 files that , burnt into a cd, is equal to the "original" cd album. This modules helps to check if in every case this assumption is valid, and gives a set of utilities to manage that set of mp3 (ie: Generate mp3 tags or rename files according to a cddb match).
The so called album info is divided into two sets: the technical info and the layout info.
Technical info
Gives all the information about the mp3 file and about the album as a group of those files. For an example it gives you the general encoding(s) of the album and if it has a uniform encoding (all the tracks are encoding at the same bitrate).
Layout info
Gives you all the information about the disc layout. This is track names, album artist, etc. You can get layouts of various ways; for now three of them where implemented : information extracted from mp3 tags, from cddb, imported from a text file. for more info about the layouts read the perldoc of MP3::Album::Layout

Test Environment Toolkit in short TET, is a multi-platform uniform test scaffold, into which non-distributed and distributed test suites can be incorporated.

Khalkhi (say [?al?i]) is a plugin-based framework for (the properties of) entries in the KDE Addressbook and services upon them. It consists of two libs, libkhalkhicore and libkhalkhigui, and a control center module.
The framework models an addressbook entry, like a person or organization, as a list of property types, with no, one or more items of a type for each entry. There are three types of services for a property (e.g. email address):
- action service (e.g. send email)
- data action service (e.g. send file per email, like from dragndrop)
- status service (e.g. number of unread emails in assigned folder)
The tarball includes a lot of services for the most common properties:
- birthday: copy date; has birthday
- im address: chat with; send message; send file; online status
- email address: send email; copy address; send files/urls;
open assigned folders in KMail; unread emails in assigned KMail folder
- homepage: open; copy url;
- blog feed url: copy
- phone number: make call; send fax; send SMS; copy number;
