Postal 0.67

Postal 0.67

Postal is a SMTP and POP benchmark suite. more>>
Postal suite currently consists of two programs, Postal and Rabid. Postal (the mad postman) is a program that will deliver mail as fast as possible via the SMTP protocol to test mail server performance.
Rabid (the mad Biff) will eat mail via the POP protocol as fast as possible and measure POP server performance. All messages sent via Postal have MD5 checksums appended, and Rabid will check the MD5 to ensure that the messages are not being corrupted.
It works by taking a list of user names and applying random transformations to them to get the FROM and TO addresses, this is because if each email address takes 30 bytes of storage then 1,000,000 accounts would take 30M of RAM. 3,000,000 accounts would take 90M of RAM which would be more than the memory in my test machine (this would cause thrashing and make the benchmark invalid), and it would take ages to load all that data from the hard drive. Using 100,000 accounts and applying a transformation to map them to 30M accounts is a much more efficient use of resources.
When sending the mail the subject and body will be random data. A header field X-Postal will be used so that procmail can easily filter out such email just in case you accidentally put your own email address as one of the test addresses. ;)
For Debian the best thing to do is to do "apt-get install postal", if you dont want to use the version supplied with your version of Debian you can build a Debian package in the usual manner.
Change to the directory containing the unpacked source and use the command:
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -tc -us
That will create a .deb in the parent directory.
For Red Hat etc there is a portslave.spec file to allow for building with
the "rpm -b" command.
For Solaris use the command "make -C sun" to build a package in /var/spool/pkg
(make sure you have write access to that directory).
For other Unix setup "./configure ; make install" should do an install.
Enhancements:
- The license was changed to GPLv3.

HTML Tidy

HTML Tidy

HTML Tidy cleans up HTML source and formats it nicely. more>>
HTML TIDY is a free utility to fix mistakes made while editing HTML and to automatically tidy up sloppy editing into nicely layed out markup. It also works great on the atrociously hard to read markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities.
When editing HTML its easy to make mistakes. Wouldnt it be nice if there was a simple way to fix these mistakes automatically and tidy up sloppy editing into nicely layed out markup? Well now there is! Dave Raggetts HTML TIDY is a free utility for doing just that. It also works great on the atrociously hard to read markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities.
Tidy is able to fix up a wide range of problems and to bring to your attention things that you need to work on yourself. Each item found is listed with the line number and column so that you can see where the problem lies in your markup. Tidy wont generate a cleaned up version when there are problems that it cant be sure of how to handle. These are logged as "errors" rather than "warnings".
Dave Raggett has now passed the baton for maintaining Tidy to a group of volunteers working together as part of the open source community at Source Forge. The source code continues to be available under an open source license, and you are encouraged to pass on bug reports and enhancement requests at http://tidy.sourceforge.net.
If you find HTML Tidy useful and you would like to say thanks, then please send me a (paper) postcard or other souvenir from the area in which you live along with a few words on what you are using Tidy for. It will be fun to map out where Tidy users are to be found! My postal address is given at the end of this file.
The W3C public email list devoted to HTML Tidy is: . To subscribe send an email to html-tidy-request@w3.org with the word subscribe in the subject line (include the word unsubscribe if you want to unsubscribe). The archive for this list is accessible online. If you would like to contact the developers, or you just want to submit an enhancement request or a bug report, please visit http://tidy.sourceforge.net.
Tidy can now perform wonders on HTML saved from Microsoft Word 2000! Word bulks out HTML files with stuff for round-tripping presentation between HTML and Word. If you are more concerned about using HTML on the Web, check out Tidys "Word-2000" config option! Of course Tidy does a good job on Word97 files as well!

TableTools 0.20

TableTools 0.20

TableTools sorts, filters or copies any HTML table. more>>
TableTools supercedes the TableSort extension. TableTools sorts, filters or copies any HTML table (ctrl+alt+click sorts, ctrl+shift+click shows/hides filter, ctrl+z+click etc. allows copying in various formats).

Sorting/filtering are smart as they auto-detect the data types such as date/time stamps, numbers (including scientific notations), major currencies, IP addresses, or plain text.

Context menu allows users to force sorting column data as any of the predefined data types. Please check my demo page at http://www.mingyi.org/other/tabletools.html for the detailed feature list.

This extension is the perfect first-glance tool for HTML tables, providing better sorting and filtering capabilities than MS Excel (and directly in FF!), but if you need to make a graph or sth., just use the extension to copy the whole table into Excel!

CMS Made Simple 0.10.1

CMS Made Simple 0.10.1

CMS Made Simple is a simple and effective way of managing content of primarily static sites. more>>
The aim of CMS Made Simple is to supply a simple and effective way of managing content of primarily static sites. Before you can ask why you need a content management system for a site that doesnt change its content, let me tell you.
There are tons of content management systems out there but they are basically all the same. Other CMS systems are great if you have a lot of news or articles on your site, but what if your site content doesnt change a lot, or only small parts of it change? Doesnt make a lot of sense to create a new entry in your blog style site just for a simple update, and whats the point of having time stamped blog entries if you are constantly updating them? Voila, in comes CMS Made Simple.
CMS lets you update your pages and keep the content on a static page that will not become stale regardless of how much other content gets placed on your site, unlike a blog style site where entries get pushed off the page and your users have to check the archives or know an obscure link to get to the original story.
Main features:
- Easy user and group management
- Group-based permission system
- Intelligent caching mechanism to only get what is necessary from the database
- Full template support, for unlimted looks without changing a line of content
- Easy wizard based install and upgrade procedures
- Minimal requirements
- Admin panel with multiple language support
- Integrated, Optional WYSIWYG
- Content hierarchy with unlimited depth and size
- Optional self-generating menus
- Integrated file manager w/ upload capabilities
- Module API for unlimited expandability
- Integrated audit log
- Included News module

LinuxSampler 0.3.3

LinuxSampler 0.3.3

LinuxSampler is a software audio sampler with professional grade features. more>>
LinuxSampler is a software audio sampler with professional grade features.
LinuxSampler was designed as a sampler backend, decoupled from any user interface. It provides a network interface using an ASCII based protocol called LSCP for controlling the sampler and managing sampler sessions. But dont be afraid, with QSampler we already have a convenient GUI frontend (based on the cross-platform GUI library Qt) for LinuxSampler and due to the decoupled design you can even control the sampler with the GUI frontend from another computer, probably even running another OS like Windows or OS X. Beside our own custom network control layer we planned to add existing ones as well (e.g. OSC). With the planned SMP and cluster support LinuxSampler might become a very interesting tool for high-end studios and concerts in future.
It is planned to support all common sampler formats in LinuxSampler, but at the moment we chose to concentrate on the Gigasampler format, because we think its currently the best sampler format in regards of quality and power, especially for the synthesis of natural instruments like pianos, brass and bowed instruments. But we already made good advance in implementing this format, so we are optimistic to start with adding other formats soon. Beside that we also planned to design our own, sophisticated sampler format to introduce a more powerful and more flexible sampler format compared to any sampler format currently available in the world. Be encouraged to share your ideas about such a new format with us!
Anyway, there are so many things to do and our hands are limited. So dont hesitate on participating to the project!

Log::Dispatch::File::Alerts 1.00

Log::Dispatch::File::Alerts 1.00

Log::Dispatch::File::Alerts is a Perl object for logging to alert files. more>>
Log::Dispatch::File::Alerts is a Perl object for logging to alert files.

SYNOPSIS

use Log::Dispatch::File::Alerts;

my $file = Log::Dispatch::File::Alerts->new(
name => file1,
min_level => emerg,
filename => Somefile%d{yyyy!!!!}.log,
mode => append );

$file->log( level => emerg,
message => "Ive fallen and I cant get upn" );

ABSTRACT

This module provides an object for logging to files under the Log::Dispatch::* system.

This module subclasses Log::Dispatch::File for logging to date/time stamped files. See Log::Dispatch::File for instructions on usage. This module differs only on the following three points:

alert files

This module will use a seperate file for every log message.

multitasking-safe

This module uses flock() to lock the file while writing to it.

stamped filenames

This module supports a special tag in the filename that will expand to the current date/time/pid.

It is the same tag Log::Log4perl::Layout::PatternLayout uses, see Log::Log4perl::Layout::PatternLayout, chapter "Fine-tune the date". In short: Include a "%d{...}" in the filename where "..." is a format string according to the SimpleDateFormat in the Java World (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html). See also Log::Log4perl::DateFormat for information about further restrictions.
In addition to the format provided by Log::Log4perl::DateFormat this module also supports $ for inserting the PID and ! for inserting a uniq number. Repeat the character to define how many character wide the field should be.
A note on the !: The module first tries to find a fresh filename with this set to 1. If there is already a file with that name then it is increased until either a free filename has been found or it reaches 9999. In the later case the module dies.

ipt_sysrq 0.4

ipt_sysrq 0.4

ipt_sysrq is a new iptables target that allows you to do the same as the magic sysrq key on a keyboard does. more>>
ipt_sysrq is a new iptables target that allows you to do the same as the magic sysrq key on a keyboard does, but over the network.

Sometimes a remote server hangs and only responds to icmp echo request (ping). Every administrator of such machine is very unhappy because (s)he must go there and press the reset button. It takes a long time and its inconvenient. So here is a solution. Use the Network Magic SysRq and you will be able to do more than just pressing a reset button. You can remotely sync disks, remount them read-only, then do a reboot. And everything is comfortably and lasts only in a few seconds.

You can restrict who can do this by setting the iptables firewall. But unfortunately, for simplicity, the Network Magic SysRq is based on a single packet request. This packet is encrypted and password protected, but if somebody can sniff it (s)he will be able to repeat (but not to change) the query (so-called replay attack). The query is also protected by a timestamp. When the packet is generated, it is stamped by current date and time. Then on the server side that stamp is compared with the current time of the server and if it is within the tolerance the request is accepted. Together with some other information, the timestamp is protected by SHA1 hash. This means that the potential attacker has a limited time to repeat the sniffed packet. If anybody requires a better security than this, some secure encrypted tunnel can be used. (not depending on userspace, of course!

- Document schema validation with easy-to-use extendible schema catalog.
- Generation of RSA key pairs up to 2048 bit.
- Generation of self-signed X509 certificates, supporting the most common extensions.
- PKCS12 key repository management.
- Generic Smart Card support (e.g. eID cards).
- PEM exporting/importing of public keys, private keys, X509 certificates, and CSRs.
- X509 certificate OCSP support.
- TSP time-stamping support.
- OASIS Digital Signature Service (DSS) XML Timestamp support.
- Loading and storing of X509 certificates.
- MD5/SHA1 fingerprints.
Enhancements:
- This release includes a major refactoring of the XAdES signature aspects, resulting in performance improvements.
- Because of the refactoring it is now also possible to upgrade, for example, a XAdES-BES signature to XAdES-T, and it is also easier to query a verified signature for some XAdES attributes.
- The Web site also has a new section on the architecture of DContract and a code sample.
- Some interop tests were performed with IAIK XAdES, and the FAQ now offers a comparison between DContract and the IAIK XAdES library.

Gournal 0.5.1

Gournal 0.5.1

Gournal is a notepad application for Tablet PCs. more>>
Gournal is a note-taking application written for usage on Tablet-PCs (such as the Toshiba M200). Its designed for usage with a stylus, not a mouse or keyboard.
It does not have handwriting recognition but can be used in co-ordination with xstroke to accept text. Gournal is written in perl using gtk2-perl so you will need gtk2-perl along with the gladexml and gnomecanvas modules of gtk2-perl.
The pages are saved as gzipped SVG files (not totally standard yet but working on it). This is my first attempt and I have never used any M$ tablet applications (deleted Win before first boot) so I dont have any idea what features are good/needed.
Gournal looks/works just like a physical notebook with multiple pages. To save memory/speed load time it only loads pages when they are viewed so the app will not run much slower if you have 1 or 100 pages. Each page is named according to when it was created. The pages are saved as gzipped SVG files. Gournal has the following tools:
< Multiple sections >
Fine/Normal/Medium/Think Pens
Eraser
Highliter
Typed Text
Time-stamp
Zoom
Infinite undo/redo
Delete entire strokes
Networkable pages
< Insert Images >
< Load a file as the background >
Enhancements:
- Support for printing the pages and files changed from .svg.gz to .svgz for compatiability with standards

IP Tables network magic SysRq 0.5

IP Tables network magic SysRq is a new iptables target that allows you to do the same as the magic sysrq key on a keyboard does. more>>
IP Tables network magic SysRq is a new iptables target that allows you to do the same as the magic sysrq key on a keyboard does, but over the network.

Why to use the remote sysrq?

Sometimes a remote server hangs and only responds to icmp echo request (ping). Every administrator of such machine is very unhappy because (s)he must go there and press the reset button. It takes a long time and its inconvenient. So here is a solution. Use the Network Magic SysRq and you will be able to do more than just pressing a reset button. You can remotely sync disks, remount them read-only, then do a reboot. And everything comfortably and only in a few seconds.

Is it secure?

That depends. Let me explain: You can restrict who can do this by setting the iptables firewall.

How to install it?

Just type make.

When everything is compiled type make install as root and after that run depmod -a. Now you can load the kernel module by the command modprobe ipt_SYSRQ.

You would also like to configure the server password and the tolerance. This can be set when installing the module into a kernel, by specifying the module parameters passwd for password and tolerance for tolerance in seconds. The default values are passwd="" and tolerance=43200.

Example:

modprobe ipt_SYSRQ passwd="my_very_secret_password" tolerance=3600

Module options can also be specified in file /etc/modules.conf.

Example:

options ipt_SYSRQ passwd="my_very_secret_password" tolerance=3600

What to do on a server?

After the module is loaded you are able to deploy it using the iptables command.

Some examples of usage:

iptables -I INPUT -p udp --dport 9 -j SYSRQ

or

iptables -I INPUT -i eth1 -s 192.168.1.2 -p udp --dport 9 -j SYSRQ

Note that UDP port 9 is used. This is the default port for send_sysrq program, which shouldnt do any harm, as it defaults to discard service.

What to do on the remote machine?

Copy the executable binary send_sysrq to the remote (client) machine. Alternatively, you can compile ipt_sysrq there yourselves. After uncompressing the source package, you just need to do a make send_sysrq.

Now you can use the client program send_sysrq to send the sysrq request.
