grabslides 1.0

grabslides 1.0

grabslides is a command line to automate the synchronisation of videos and slides during live and on-demande courses. more>>
grabslides project is a command line tool we created to automate the synchronisation of videos and slides during live and on-demande courses.
It can capture frames from either a Video4Linux device, or from an Axis Video Server, and offers unprecedented flexibility to configure this capturing : device, channel, interframe delay, resolution, compression factor, output directory, link to the current slide, and so on are all configurable items.
Some of them can be modified while the program is running through the use of signals, and in the future through a GUI. In addition, it can generate a PDF document which will contain all the captured slides. There again, multiple possibilities are offered.
We use this software every day to capture slides from the output of a VGA-to-Composite converter. Once the capture is done, a SMIL generator is run over the set of slides produced, and a SMIL file linking to the video and slides, both synchronised, is created. The SMIL generator we wrote will be published later.
Installation :
- Download and extract it :
$ tar -zxf grabslides-x.yy.tar.gz
where x.yy is grabslidess version number.
- Install grabslides :
e.g. :
$ cd grabslides-x.yy
$ python setup.py install
This will usually install grabslides into /usr/bin, although the exact location may vary depending on your system.
- Use grabslides :
$ grabslides --help
grabslides will display its lengthy help, and youll see the possibilities which are offered.
Enhancements:
- grabslides can now generate an HTML page containing all slides.
- XML presentations in the Aristote Associations OTESA format can also be generated.
- The 2-up mode now works in portrait mode when creating PDF.
- Finally grabslides can now synchronize itself on another process, and can exit automatically when the other process does.
- A nice example of PDF output is now available as well.

php syslog viewer 7.2.0

php syslog viewer 7.2.0

php syslog viewer is a free web application written in PHP for viewing and searching system logs stored in a MySQL database. more>>
php syslog viewer is a free web application written in PHP for viewing and searching system logs stored in a MySQL database.
Good system administrators review the logs from each system they administer. As the number of systems gets bigger, this becomes a more complex and time consuming task. Eventually the system administrator would like a way to combine the log messages from all of the systems into one central location, but that is not enough. Without a good search facility, finding the information the system administrator needs is like finding a needle in a haystack.
This is where php syslog viewer comes to the rescue. Using a few common Free Software tools (syslog-ng, stunnel, MySQL, apache, and php), php syslog viewer provides a total solution for centralized logging and log management. Client systems send their log files to a server which stores them in a database. php syslog viewer provides the system administrator with a view into that database. php syslog viewer also includes a tool for optimizing searches and archiving older data so that it takes up less room on the disk.
php syslog viewer is Free Software licensed under the GNU GPL (version 2 or later) as published by the Free Software Foundation.
Main features:
- Log Searching
- Real Time Log Viewer
- Automatic Log Rotation
- User Authentication Possibilities
- LDAP
- Active Directory
- Built-in Authentication
- 3rd Party Client API (outputs XML)

pkpgcounter parses files and outputs the number of pages needed to print them. more>>
pkpgcounter is a 100% Python written standalone script distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License of the Free Software Foundation .
pkpgcounter was part of our PyKota software since 2003, but it is now only available separately.
pkpgcounter is a generic Page Description Language parser which main feature is to count the number of pages in printable files.
pkpgcounter can currently compute the number of pages in several types of files :
- PostScript (both DSC compliant and binary)
- PDF
- PCL3/4/5
- PCLXL (aka PCL6)
- ESC/P2
- DVI
- TIFF
- OpenOffice.org Writer
- OpenOffice.org Impress
When launched, pkpgcounter prints on its standard output a single integer representing the total number of pages in all the files which filenames youve passed on the command line.
With no argument, or with a single dash in non-option arguments, pkpgcounter reads datas to parse from its standard input in addition to other non-options arguments which are treated as filenames representing the files to parse.
In the future other possibilities will be added (use the --debug command line switch to have a preview)
Enhancements:
- A major incompatibility with Python 2.5 was fixed.
- People are urged to upgrade.

SlackFire 0.44.2

SlackFire 0.44.2

SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy. more>>
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy.
SlackFires main purpose is to protect a stand-alone machine or a small network with a stateful firewall that can be configured easily but in big detail.
Why another iptables script? There are a lot in the Internet, many of them with pretty nice GUI!
First of all, I didnt want to have a firewall that I only could manage and configure via GUI.
Next, I needed to work with a LAN with machines having routable IP addresses. Quite a few scripts available in the Net supported this feature.
Even lesser number of scripts supported configuration of fine-tuned rules. The majority of them just allowed all outgoing connections permitting replies to go back. I wanted to restrict outgoing traffic, too.
I also wanted that configuration can be performed without touching the main script and that this could be done by a person with very little knowledge about iptables.
Thus, I found it easier to write a script of my own than to tune a script written by somebody else.
Version restrictions:
- Currently, SF protects at most two network devices. All other network devices are not affected by the firewall in case packets are sent directly to the box running SF. Forwarded packets are dropped though. (The latter behaviour can be easily fixed.)
- I havent tried SF at machines that use DHCP. I expect that some tuning may be needed, especially in case the script is installed on a DHCP server.
- SF has only been tested on machines running Slackware >=9.0 with C locale. Certain things can break if messages produced by ifconfig and iptables use other languages than English. (This can be easily fixed if needed.)
- There is no support for NFS through a protected network interface yet. This will be fixed.
- Support of FreeS/WAN is not implemented.
There are undoubtedly more, partially because netfilter provides an incredibly rich range of possibilities. Actually, I havent seen an iptables script in the Internet with all the iptables possibilities implemented.
Enhancements:
- A minor change was made in bash syntax when proceeding configuration files.
- Temporary files are now created using mktemp.

XMMS InfoPipe 1.3

XMMS InfoPipe 1.3

XMMS InfoPipe is a plugin that reports XMMS status via named pipe. more>>
XMMS InfoPipe is a plugin that reports XMMS status via named pipe. XMMS InfoPipe is handy if you want to add interesting real-time information for a personal web page, or a web cam page.

While theres a possibility of setting up programs to be executed by XMMS when changing songs, XMMS InfoPipe provides better introspection: You can get information on song position, song length, playlist position, status (stopped/playing/paused), song title as displayed by XMMS, and file name. The information is reported in easily parseable textual format.

The possibilities for information use are limitless. So far, here are some of the things people have been using InfoPipe for:

Showing information of XMMS on home page, webcam page, or something related (script included)
Showing player information on IRC (spotted one script for Irssi)
Using any speech synthetizer to say the song information, reducing the need for external displays, and helping listening to unfamiliar music in bed when all you have is a remote control =) (script included).

Yeah, LIRC plugin seems to support this already, but it only supports ViaVoice - this allows you to use any speech synth... or any other types of output. Just an example of flexibility - I created the script to do that at 4 oclock in the morning, and even got 99% of Perl recommendations of good coding right, even when I wasnt fully awake.

Slide & Stack is a brain challenging game. more>>
Slide & Stack is a brain challenging game. Looks like the 2D version of Rubix but is something different. Simple movements and infinite possibilities makes you train your logic thinking in order to solve this puzzle.

The game starts with a four colored bar and a four by four square with all colors in their place. Suddenly the bar starts to move, rotating around the square and stacking itself into the square. When it stops moving, all colors are out of place and is your turn to organize them.

Unlock the logic behind this game. Stop and restart playing selecting the difficulty level at will. On-game animated instructions will help you understand the dynamics.

Play Slide & Stack, discover how to solve it and share your method with other players. Look at the solving hints page for ideas.

ebtables 2.0.8 rc2

ebtables 2.0.8 rc2

ebtables is a filtering tool for a bridging firewall. more>>
ebtables is a filtering tool for a bridging firewall. A firewalling tool to transparently filter network traffic passing a bridge. The filtering possibilities are limited to link layer filtering and some basic filtering on higher network layers. Advanced logging, MAC DNAT/SNAT and brouter facilities are also included.
The ebtables tool can be used together with the other Linux filtering tools, iptables/ip6tables/arptables. There are no incompatibility issues.
This site also has the latest ebtables/bridge-nf patches for the 2.4 kernel series.
The arptables userspace tool is also maintained here.
Enhancements:
- ebtables modules are now located in /usr/lib/ebtables/
- added /sbin/service ebtables support
- added ebtables-save (thanks to Rok Papez ) and ebtables-restore (the first one a perl script, the second one written in c (fast)
- optimized the code for the -A command, making ebtables-restore very fast.
- ebtablesd/ebtablesu is deprecated and not compiled by default the ebtables-save/ebtables-restore scheme is much better

Lightfeather 0.5.5

Lightfeather 0.5.5

Lightfeather is a 3D engine for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. more>>
Lightfeather is a 3D engine for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. Lightfeather project is designed to be easy to use but still take advantage of the features of modern graphics hardware.
The zlib/libpng license under which it is distributed allows you to use it for any purpose whatsoever including commercial projects without the need to redistribute your changes in any form or even mentioning that you use it (although that would be nice, of course).
To use Lightfeather you need to be proficient in c++ programming (a python binding is in the works at the moment so you might be able to use Lightfeather with python in the future). It is geared towards intermediate to professional programmers and not towards beginners.
Before you start working with Lightfeather you should AT LEAST read the Modelconverter and the Renderpasses information in the documentation submenu.
If you want to help with Lightfeathers development, there are lots of possibilities to do so. You could, for example, submit patches, contribute models for the test and example applications or write tutorials. If you want to work on the engine but dont know where to start look into the todo/request list. Help in any form is always very welcome.
Enhancements:
- It is now possible to render the same scene through different cameras into multiple windows.
- A filesystem handler interface has been added, which allows the use of a database or an FTP server like a normal filesystem.
- Resources can be grouped for easier handling.
- Users can integrate their own data into the engines lfm file format.
- Many more changes were made and lots of bugs were fixed.

File::Comments 0.07

File::Comments 0.07

File::Comments is a Perl module that ecognizes file formats and extracts format-specific comments. more>>
File::Comments is a Perl module that ecognizes file formats and extracts format-specific comments.

SYNOPSIS

use File::Comments;

my $snoop = File::Comments->new();

# *----------------
# | program.c:
# | /* comment */
# | main () {}
# *----------------
my $comments = $snoop->comments("program.c");
# => [" comment "]

# *----------------
# | script.pl:
# | # comment
# | print "howdy!n"; # another comment
# *----------------
my $comments = $snoop->comments("script.pl");
# => [" comment", " another comment"]

# or strip comments from a file:
my $stripped = $snoop->stripped("script.pl");
# => "print "howdy!n";"

# or just guess a files type:
my $type = $snoop->guess_type("program.c");
# => "c"

File::Comments guesses the type of a given file, determines the format used for comments, extracts all comments, and returns them as a reference to an array of chunks. Alternatively, it strips all comments from a file.

Currently supported are Perl scripts, C/C++ programs, Java, makefiles, JavaScript, Python and PHP.

The plugin architecture used by File::Comments makes it easy to add new formats. To support a new format, a new plugin module has to be installed. No modifications to the File::Comments codebase are necessary, new plugins will be picked up automatically.

File::Comments can also be used to simply guess a files type. It it somewhat more flexible than File::MMagic and File::Type. File types in File::Comments are typically based on file name suffixes (*.c, *.pl, etc.). If no suffix is available, or a given suffix is ambiguous (e.g. if several plugins have registered a handler for the same suffix), then the files content is used to narrow down the possibilities and arrive at a decision.

WARNING: THIS MODULE IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT, QUALITY IS ALPHA. IF YOU FIND BUGS, OR WANT TO CONTRIBUTE PLUGINS, PLEASE SEND THEM MY WAY.
