Mulimidix is a small Linux distribution for building a PC-based set-top box and multimedia player system to use on tv. Currently it supports:

WebVCR+ is a Web frontend to record your TV shows from, which has a TV Guide-like interface. You can record your shows to many different formats, and convert them during the idle time your computer isnt recording.
You can also add favorites and manage your video library through the Web interface. Listings can be specified in XMLTV format, or grabbed from advalvas/eurotv. You can also easily add different commandline video recorders.

- Now you can search your listings database by keywords, categories, channel or any combination of the three, and have the results displayed ready to record or unrecord.
Automatic Conversion of Videos
- Now you can record in an uncompressed format and compress it later into any codec you want using FFMPEG and WebVCR+. You dont have to put up with low bitrates, just have your computer compress the video in the idle time it isnt recording!
XMLTV Support
- The schedule can now be specified in XMLTV format, which has schedules for Canada, UK and the USA.
nvrec Support
- WebVCR+ supports divx4rec and vcr both of which record to DivX format. NuppelVideo support has also been added with nuvrec. You can add any command line recorder easily, just see the recorder help under Config.
MJPEG tools Support
- WebVCR+ supports lavrec for recording into MJPEG format.
Mplayer Support
- WebVCR+ supports mencoder for recording into the various formats that Mplayer supports.
Favorites Support
- Now you can click the "Add to Favorites" button, and a show will be recorded every time it is aired. You can then use the Favorites menu to adjust the priority of the favorites, or adjust the channel, time and weekday settings for the favorite.
Video Library Management
- You can also rename and delete files in your video library from the web interface, and check the amount of space each takes up.

KMediagrab is a media grabber and encoder built on top of mplayer/mencoder. It can grab and encode a DVD at the same time (e.g., creating a divx or a videocd file for instance), record a movie or your favourite TV program from your TV-card, or translate a video file from one format to another (e.g., create a realplayer file from a .wmv one).

Gecko Multimedia System is a complete media solution, able to play almost all media types and supports scheduled tv-recording from online tv-guides.

It is intended to replace your VCR, DVD, MP3- and CD-player into one single software-unit. It is mainly for use in Linux-systems (well, its the only system Ive tried it on).

Please note that Gecko requires VRD to be able to record television. VRD is not yet 100% functional.

xawtv started as TV application for the bttv driver, because the Motif-based "xtvscreen" was the only TV application at this time. Alot has changed since:
- The xawtv and bttv driver switched over to the video4linux interface.
- Support for more interfaces was added: Xvideo Extention, the new video4linux2 interface and BSD Family video grabber driver (bktr).
- xawtv isnt a single application any more, it is a small suite of video4linux related software, with video recording capabilities and serveral useful command line tools.
- In the future even more hardware will be supported, the current development snapshots already have DVB support for example.

- a teletext browser, also uses Motif. This one works on a terminal too.

fbtv
- is a TV application for the linux console, it uses a framebuffer devices to display the video.
streamer
- a command line tool for recording movies.
v4lctl
- a command line tool to set video4linux parameters (tune in some channel, set TV norm, ...).
scantv
- a command line tool to do a channel scan.
radio
- a simple, curses-based radio app.
webcam
- captures images and uploads them to a Web-Server via ftp or ssh in a endless loop.
alevtd
- a http server for videotext pages, so you can watch read videotext with a webbrowser.
- Most of the apps share the xawtv config file (~/.xawtv).

QtTV is a TV Guide. It reads from an XMLTV formatted document to retrieve listings, then allows output sorted by time, per channel or in a grid of time vs channel.

For now, the package requires the XMLTV listings to be in "/root/Documents/tv.xml" if you are installing on the zaurus. Windows or linux compilations allow you to choose a file.

Be aware that this software is slow to load and may be buggy.

TVNow is a program that displays the North American satellite and network TV Listings that are provided by the TVNOW company.

Free listings for the weekend are available and subscriptions for yearly listing are very
low cost.

Written in Python 1.5.2 with Glade using the Pygtk interface. All of these things may already be included on your distribution (they are included in the RedHat 7.0 Linux distribution).

A console-only version is included which is useful for sight-impaired people using the speakup voice synthesizer system.
