SADMS 2 2.0.11

SADMS 2 2.0.11

SADMS (Samba as Active Directory Member Server/Station) makes it easy to add a Linux host to an Active Directory Domain. more>>
SADMS (Samba as Active Directory Member Server/Station) makes it easy to add a Linux host to an Active Directory Domain.
As a domain member, the Linux host
- can offer resources (shares) to the domain hosts and act as a domain server.
- offloads authentication to the domain (controllers), making it unnecessary to add local user accounts for domain users
SADMS was designed for use by administrators and takes care of the gory details of configuring a Linux host as an Active Directory (Windows 200x) Domain, an operation that involves modifying a number of arcane configuration files.
The Linux host, running on Samba 3, though not an Active Directory controller, operates as a member of the domain and, as such, refers to controllers for user authentication. No local accounts for Active Directory members are needed.
Communication with Active Directory controllers is carried out through Kerberos and LDAP (not the NT LAN Manager protocols).
Optionally, PAM can be configured to accept domain users for local interactive sessions on the host, whicn then acts as a workstation.
Main features:
- configuring Kerberos
- configuring Winbind
- configuring Samba
- configuring the Name Switch Service
- optionally configuring PAM
- synchronizing clocks
- joining the server to the Active Directory Domain
- building home directories with the proper file permissions
- making the users homes and shares
- making advanced group shares
- configuring the start of the daemons
- installing PAM modules
- managing ACLs

smbfax 1.5

smbfax 1.5

smbfax is sends a fax to a Samba print share without any Win32 client software. more>>
smbfax is a Unix server which allows you to print via Samba from a Windows client to a hylafax-controlled faxmodem on your server without any additional Win32 software for the client.
Its as easy as File->Print from an application, choose the network fax printer, then check your emails INBOX. You can also view and delete jobs via the standard Windows methods.
Main features:
- Allows users to "print" a document to a network printer. The Samba server then sends the document to smbfax, which prepares it and sends an e-mail to the owner inviting her to complete the fax via a web interface. The user then clicks on the provided link, fills in the fax information (recipient, comment, coverpage options, etc.) and clicks on the "send" button.
- Allows users to manage the send (outgoing) fax queue using the standard Windows method of managing print jobs (you can even select your own jobs and kill them with the delete key)
- You *dont* need to install any client software at all; no need to upgrade WINSOCK.DLL to the latest version or have some systray app running to intercept print jobs. You dont have to use any special drag-and-drop software or e-mail/web gateways with confusing attachments.
- Weve been running it for a (little) while here without any problems, it works just great;
- Its as easy as Print => Check Email
System requirements:
- Hylafax
- Perl 5.004 or better (Plus some modules)
- Apache or any other CGI-BIN webserver
- Samba
- A good POSIX system (tested under linux-2.2.16)

LinNeighborhood 0.6.5

LinNeighborhood is free software for browsing M$ machines and mounting SMB filesystems. more>>
Its a GUI frontend running over Samba and Smbmount using the Gimp Toolkit. It requires the GTK+ libraries installed on your system. To use internationalization you need GNU gettext on your machine.

Further its very important to configure Samba in a proper way, otherwise you will get browse problems. Take a look at the Samba package for more information.

If youre using kernel 2.2 (version 2.1.70 or higher), you must use the smbmount package included in Samba 2.0. For kernels 2.0 use the Smbfs package for mounting and unmounting.

Samba TNG 0.4.99

Samba TNG 0.4.99

Samba TNG is a SMB fileserver that concentrates on NT RPC and PDC functionality. more>>
Samba TNG is another SMB server for Unix-like operating systems. This software is concentrating on MSRPC interoperatability with Windows NT, 2000, XP, and 2003.
It provides PDC support and tools to remotely administer NT servers and workstations. Note that Samba TNG is currently in a beta stage. If you need advanced file/print serving capabilities, you should opt for Samba classic.
Enhancements:
- As with release 0.4, we highly recommend a working iconv library.
- Iconv is bundled with some C libraries - notably GNU libc - and shipped with almost all
- Linux systems, and some Unix systems.
- If your system does not have an iconv library, or (like Solaris) only has a limited one, we highly recommend installing the GNU libiconv, which you can find at http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/ .
- Samba-TNG will still compile and run with its own iconv stubs, but this probably will not handle international character sets well, if at all.
