Freenet 0.7
Freenet is free software which lets you publish and obtain information on the Internet without fear of censorship. more>>
Freenet software lets you publish and obtain information on the Internet without fear of censorship. To achieve this freedom, the network is entirely decentralized and publishers and consumers of information are anonymous. Without anonymity there can never be true freedom of speech, and without decentralization the network will be vulnerable to attack.
Communications by Freenet nodes are encrypted and are "routed-through" other nodes to make it extremely difficult to determine who is requesting the information and what its content is.
Users contribute to the network by giving bandwidth and a portion of their hard drive (called the "data store") for storing files. Unlike other peer-to-peer file sharing networks, Freenet does not let the user control what is stored in the data store. Instead, files are kept or deleted depending on how popular they are, with the least popular being discarded to make way for newer or more popular content. Files in the data store are encrypted to reduce the likelihood of prosecution by persons wishing to censor Freenet content.
The network can be used in a number of different ways and isnt restricted to just sharing files like other peer-to-peer networks. It acts more like an Internet within an Internet. For example Freenet can be used for:
Publishing websites or freesites
Communicating via message boards
Content distribution
Unlike many cutting edge projects, Freenet long ago escaped the science lab, it has been downloaded by over 2 million users since the project started, and it is used for the distribution of censored information all over the world including countries such as China and the Middle East.
Ideas and concepts pioneered in Freenet have had a significant impact in the academic world. Our 2000 paper "Freenet: A Distributed Anonymous Information Storage and Retrieval System" was the most cited computer science paper of 2000 according to Citeseer, and Freenet has also inspired papers in the worlds of law and philosophy. Ian Clarke, Freenets creator and project coordinator, was selected as one of the top 100 innovators of 2003 by MITs Technology Review magazine.
Enhancements:
- This release operates over UDP rather than TCP.
- It can transparently operate through firewalls.
- The core architecture and algorithm have been redesigned for simplicity and efficiency.
- A new and even simpler API allowing the rapid development of third party software that interacts with Freenet has been added.

INews 0.8
INews is a system to write and publish newspapers on the internet. more>>
INews is a system to write and publish newspapers on the internet.
INews is different, because:
* the newspaper has a traditional structure, with pages and articles distributed like in a paper newspaper.
* the newspaper is not published using HTML, but can be read with a java application.
INews is a complete system, composed by:
* a server application.
* an editor application, to write and publish editions of the newspaper.
* a reader application, to read the last edition of the newspaper on the internet.
* an administration application.
Purposes of the system are:
* speed and simplicity to write and publish the newspaper:
if the articles are ready as RTF documents (written with the most common word processors) and the pictures are ready, it should be a matter of minutes to publish the newspaper.
* to work in team to publish the newspaper.
* to keep an archive with all the articles, images and editions of the newspaper.
* to be open: all the articles and images are saved in the filesystem in a directory tree.
It is possible to build new parts types (like articles and images) and add them to the system.

Debarchiver is a tool to sort debian packages in a automated way so that you can publish debian packages in a easy way.
Main features:
- Sort debian packages in the "potato" way.
- Generates the Packages and Sources files.
- Prepared for web publishing.
The idea is to make a simpler version of the Debian katie software that is useable by system administrators and software publishers. Of course you should try to get your software in the Debian distribution but sometimes that is not possible or even good.
Debarchiver is licensed under GPL.
Enhancements:
- Allows for signed release files (currently only ones without a password).

Maven 1.1
Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. more>>
Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a projects build, reporting and documentation from a central piece of information.
Main features:
Model based builds
- Maven is able to build any number of projects into predefined output types such as a JAR, WAR, or distribution based on metadata about the project, without any need to do any scripting in most cases.
Coherent site of project information
- Using the same metadata as for the build process, Maven is able to generate a web site or PDF including any documentation you care to add, and adds to that standard reports about the state of development of the project. Examples of this information can be seen at the bottom of the left-hand navigation of this site under the "Project Information" and "Project Reports" submenus.
Release management and distribution publication
- Without much additional configuration, Maven will integrate with your source control system such as CVS and manage the release of a project based on a certain tag. It can also publish this to a distribution location for use by other projects. Maven is able to publish individual outputs such as a JAR, an archive including other dependencies and documentation, or as a source distribution.
Dependency management
- Maven encourages the use of a central repository of JARs and other dependencies. Maven comes with a mechanism that your projects clients can use to download any JARs required for building your project from a central JAR repository much like Perls CPAN. This allows users of Maven to reuse JARs across projects and encourages communication between projects to ensure backward compatibility issues are dealt with. We are collaborating with the folks at Ibiblio who have graciously allowed the central repository to live on their servers.
Gump integration
- Integration with Gump. For those who are not familiar with Gump it is a tool used at Apache to help projects maintain backward compatibility with their clients. If you have a Maven project descriptor then you can easily participate in nightly Gump builds that will help your project stay abreast of the impact your changes actually have in Java developer community. We are working on our own massive build tool but integration with Gump comes at no cost to Maven users.

Gozirra 0.4.1
Gozirra (previously SERStomp) is a lightweight client and server implementation of the Stomp (TTMP) protocol. more>>
Gozirra is a lightweight implementation of the Stomp specification. As of the first release it includes both client and server implementations for Java. The name stinks, and may change.
Stomp (previously TTMP) is a simple publish/subscribe messaging protocol. Its main attraction, to me at least, is its simplicity and focus. A Ruby client comes out to 107 lines of code.
The Java server and client of this project fit in a jarball about 14KB large. You can easily communicate with a Stomp server via telnet, and it provides publish, subscribe, receipts, and transactions. It is everything you need for a lightweight communication protocol.
Gozirra is not intended to be a scalable standalone MOM solution. While it can be run in standalone mode, it is really targetted at being a library for providing embedded messaging to other applications. If you want a more feature full messaging provider, check out ActiveMQ, the reference platform for Stomp.
Enhancements:
- Several synchronization bugs have been fixed, and documentation has been improved.
- Commands and headers are trimmed of whitespace, making for more relaxed interpretation.
- An authentication framework has been added.
- The project name was changed.

PhpBase is a set of Open Source PHP classes and functions aimed to help developers submitting their data to Google Base.
The main purpose for a tool like this is the need to keep data submissions accurate and avoid common errors that might occur when submitting to standard schemes recommended by Google.
The code still in development, and will be added to a subversion repository once we get the project approved at berlios.de.
PhpBase project started the 22nd November 2005, and still in its initial phase, so documentation is not its biggest strength.
Ive managed to code in a PEAR like style with JavaDoc style documentation blocks. Unit tests are also included for reference.
Once the initial code base is ready, Ill publish the API on this site.
