JAP 00.05.056
JAP makes it possible to browse the Web anonymously and unobservably. more>>
JAP project makes it possible to browse the Web anonymously and unobservably. JAP uses a single static address which is shared by many JAP users.
That way, neither the visited Web site nor an eavesdropper can determine which user visited which Web site.
Instead of connecting directly to a Web server, users take a detour, connecting with encryption through several intermediaries, so-called mixes.
How it works:
Instead of connecting directly to a webserver, users take a detour, connecting with encryption through several intermediaries, so-called mixes.
Info: JAP uses a predetermined sequence for the mixes. Such a sequence of linked mixes is called a mix cascade. Users can choose between different mix cascades. - more...
Since many users use these intermediaries at the same time, the internet connection of any one single user is hidden among the connections of all the other users. No one, not anyone from outside, not any of the other users, not even the provider of the intermediary service can determine which connection belongs to which user.
Info: A relationship between a connection and its user could only be determined if all intermediaries worked together to sabotage the anonymization. - a detailed description of mixing principles...
The intermediaries (mix providers) are generally provided by independent institutions which officially declare, that they do not keep connection log files or exchange such data with other mix providers.
It is also planned, that independent watchdogs, who work in the name of the JAP users, will insure that the mix providers hold to their official declarations.
Enhancements:
- Java 1.4.2 or later

libshbuf 0.0.3
libshbuf introduces a new IPC concept: the shared buffer, a more flexible and faster alternative for standard Unix FIFOs. more>>
libshbuf introduces a new IPC concept: the "shared buffer", a more flexible and faster alternative for standard Unix FIFOs.
Take some shared memory, flavour it with semaphore-based locking and change notifications, and refine it with an easy-to-use API and you get libshbufs "shared buffers".
Main features:
- Normally better latency and throughput
- Full access to the buffer at any time
- Connecting processes need not to be children of each other
- Arbitrary buffer lengths
- Memory mapped
- Backlog
The implementation is based on SysV shared memory, semaphores and message queues. It makes use of POSIX pthreads.
Both an easy understandable C library and a basic Python module are provided.
Version 0.0.3 is stable and feature complete.
The concept of "shared buffers" is explicitly designed for high thoughput, low latency streaming of data (e.g. audio) between two processes, where a Unix FIFO is not enough. Thus it is optimized for exactly two connecting peers, a minimum of locking and minimum of copying of memory.
For each shared buffer two shared memory blocks, a semaphore and a messages queue are created. The first shared memory block (aka "control memory block") contains some watermark information about the shared buffer. The second contains the buffer itself.
The semaphore is used for locking access to the control block. The message queue is used for signalling the other side on changes of the buffer.
A shared buffer provider is a process which creates it with with shbuf_create(). A new key for it will be registered (the key is an integer value, the key_t of the control shm). A shared buffer client is the other side of the buffer: it opens an existing buffer with shbuf_open(key).
Only one client and one provider may be connected at once. When using the notifying feature of libshbuf a background thread is started, which listens on the message queue for certain messages. It forwards these messages to a classic FIFO. The main program may listen on this FIFO with a standard select() or poll().

rp-pppoe 3.8
rp-pppoe is a user-mode PPPoE client. more>>
PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is a protocol used by many ADSL Internet Service Providers. Roaring Penguin has a free PPPoE client for Linux and Solaris systems to connect to PPPoE service providers.
Dubbed RP-PPPoE, this open-source product is ideal for Linux users with a DSL "modem" whose Internet service provider uses PPPoE. Before you download this software, check whether or not you really need it.
rp-pppoe your ISP uses PPPoE, but has given you a router, you may not need a PPPoE client on your Linux box. DHCP may work fine.
Enhancements:
- The code was refactored to shrink the size of the pppoe-executable.
- The ability to omit debugging code was also added.
- A bug in the MD5 code that caused pppoe-server to segfault on 64-bit architectures was fixed.

jrawio 1.0 RC5
jrawio is a Service Provider Implementation for the Java ImageIO API. more>>
jrawio is a Service Provider Implementation for the Java ImageIO API. It provides the ability to read images coded in a digital "camera raw" format (such as NEF for Nikon or CRW/CR2 for Canon).
jrawio is to be pointed out that jrawio is implemented in 100% pure Java.
In simple words, a Camera RAW format is the dump of the data collected by the camera sensor, with basically no post-processing applied. While it has the pitfall of requiring heavy processing in order to achieve a displayable image, the basic advantage is that any transformatio applied to it is "reversible".
From this point of view a Camera RAW format can be thought as a "digital negative". But dont confuse this with Adobes Digital Negative format (.DNG), which is just the try to define a standard format of RAW images. Indeed every camera manufacturer (e.g. Nikon, Canon, ...) has its own format.
jrawio is presently a Release Candidate for v1.0, so its coming out of beta stage. Please refer also to the Release Notes for information about issues.
It has been tested with about 8,000 photos taken with Nikon D100 and D70 cameras and with about 250 samples of various cameras downloaded from the web. jrawio has been explicitly tested with the following models:
Canon CR2 Digital Rebel, EOS 1D MkII, EOS 1Ds MkII, EOS 350D
Canon CRW D30, EOD 10D, EOS 300D
Leica DNG R8, R9
Minolta MRW DiMAGE 5, DiMAGE 7i, DiMAGE 7Hi
Nikon NEF CoolPix 5400, CoolPix 5700, CoolPix 8700, CoolPix 8800, D1, D100, D1X, D200, D2H, D2X, D50, D70, D70s
Pentax PEF *ist D, *ist DL, *ist DS
Sony SRF F828
Enhancements:
- This release fixes bugs related to application integration.

Embperl 2.2.0
Embperl is a framework for building websites with Perl. more>>
Embperl is a framework for building websites with Perl.
For the beginner its an easy to setup and use way of embedding Perl code in HTML pages. Embperl delivers several features that ease the task of creating a websites, including dynamic tables, formfield-processing, session handling, escaping/unescaping, caching and more.
If your demands grow it gives you the power to make your Website object-oriented and build it out of small reusable components. If you dont like the idea of mixing up all your layout and code then Embperl also supports separating it in different objects (e.g. creating an MVC application).
Of course Embperl doesnt tie you to HTML - it allows components to be from different source formats (e.g. HTML, WML, XML, POD, ...) and if necessary transforms them (for example via XSLT) to other output formats. This is achieved by dividing the output generation into small steps, where each is processed by a plugable provider. Advanced users can create their own syntax definitions (for example tag libraries) and extend Embperl by writing their own providers and much more...
Embperl is a server-side tool, which means that its browser-independent. It can run in various ways: under mod_perl, as a CGI script, or offline.
