Free protocols software for linux

NetChat is a combination of NetCat and ppps "chat", put on steroids for high performance. It is meant as a network exercise tool.

Using simple "say this, expect this reply" scripts, NetChat can be made to easilly speak most text-based protocols (such as SMTP, HTTP, POP3 etc.), and many binary protocols, very easilly.

In addition to the above, NetChat is built to perform a large number of concurrent connections. This makes NetChat an ideal network protocol stress-test tool.

Current code is limited to client only and simple send/receive matching. Future extensions will include the ability to work in listen mode, as well as use random elements in the replies and requests.

FSP stands for File Service Protocol. It is a very lightweight UDP based protocol for transferring files.
FSP has many benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. FSP protocol is valuable in all kinds of environments because it is one of the only TCP/IP protocols that is not aggressive about bandwidth, while still being sufficiently fault tolerant.
FSP is what anonymous FTP *should* be.
FSP: reliable and bandwidth friendly way to access publicly available data. Some people calls it UDP FTP.
Enhancements:

libptp2 is a library used to communicate with PTP devices like still imaging cameras or MP3 players (KODAK mc3).
You can download files or tweak camera properties using ptpcam program boundled with libptp2.
Supported Cameras
The list of cameras implementing PTP is constantly growing. Most (if not all) USB still cameras designed after 2002 are supporting PTP. Below is the list of vendors implementing PTP in their cameras:

Please note that if your camera is supporting PTP it does not mean that it is capable of performing all PTP operations (like trigerring capture, uploading files or tweaking properties). Sony cameras are good example of poor PTP implementation where the only thing you can do is downloading files. Sony even breaks the USB specification assigning all its cameras the same product/vendor IDs so dont buy Sony if you want to stay out of problems.
Currently most PTP features are supported. Uploading/downloading files, taking pictures and setting camera properties is supported as long as your camera supports it. However there are many Vendor Extensions that are not supported.
For example Canon uses some proprietary extension operations to take pictures (entering capture mode, extending lens and so on), Nikon introduces proprietary PTP properties.
Unfortunately I have access to couple of Kodak cameras only so to help support extension features you may send me a patch or donate/lend the camera.
Enhancements:
- A number of bugs were fixed, including leaving the camera in an unpredictable state when an I/O error occurs.
- The projects own reimplementation of the old libusb interface (IOCTL_USB_BULK) is used instead of the new URB interface, which is 20% to 50% slower and sometime leads to I/O errors.
- File time preservation across download was added.
- Better capture support was added.
- A bug that caused files over 2MB to be corrupted while downloading was fixed.
- The --loop-capture feature was added.
- Configure errors and parralel build with make -j were fixed.

Gip is an IP address calculator that integrates well with the GNOME desktop environment.

Gip provides system administrators with tools for IP address based calculations. For example, an administrator who needs to find out which IP prefix length equals the IP netmask 255.255.240.0, just types in the mask and gets the prefix length presented. But many more advanced calculations can be made.

Gip can convert an address range into a list of prefix lengths. It can also split subnets using a given IP netmask or IP prefix length. Many more calculations are possible.

libyahoo2 is a C library interface to the new Yahoo! Messenger protocol. It supports almost all current features of the protocol.

Galena was originally designed as a modular bot to serve commands on various protocols (Jabber, IRC, email, HTTP, FTP).
Because of its design, Galena2 developed into a framework for server side applications, especially for Web applications and content management systems (CMS).
Addins like wiki, message board, and news system are already included.
Enhancements:
- Galena2 is a complete new layer above the Addin Interface of Galena1.
- This turns Galena into a framework for Web applications and content management systems (CMS).
- It has a built-in theme system (templating using Velocity), an HTTP server, caching, and more.

Multicast Dissemination Protocol project is a protocol framework and software toolkit for reliable multicasting data objects including files and application memory blocks. A primary design goal of MDP is to provide a reliable multicast protocol approach which is suitable for reliable dissemination of data over both wireless and wired networks.

MDP software has been demonstrated across a range of network architecture and heterogeneous conditions including; the worldwide Internet MBone, bandwidth and routing asymmetric network connections, high delay satellite networks, and mobile, radio networks. MDP integrates numerous multicast protocol advances including highly robust, packet-based erasure correction techniques and adaptive group timing mechanisms.

The present MDP software toolkit includes a library with a well-defined API. Several example working applications including a multicast file transfer applications and a very basic multicast chat application are also provided. To learn more and/or download the software see the following sections.

Very Simple Control Protocol Daemon is a daemon for home automation tasks.
VSCP protocol is a very simple and free protocol for SOHO automation tasks & friends. The protocol is so easy that everyone can grasp the idea behind it in a few minutes.
Therefore its also very easy to construct and use VSCP aware modules and components. Nodes just start up and then serve the control solution reliable and stable for ever and ever and ever.
The protocol is free and is not designed to conquer the world and every Small Office and HOme. Very Simple Control Protocol Daemon is constructed just because its fun to make tiny little things work together.
