JASmine 0.0.3
JASmine is a page accounting system for CUPS. more>>
JASmine is a page accounting system for CUPS. JASmine project is composed of two parts, a CUPS backend and a Web interface.
Data is read from the MySQL database. It manages any printer handled by CUPS. It counts the number of pages in a print job, for various input formats. Syslog is supported.
The Web interface displays user and printer statistics, the most used printers and active users. Multiple CUPS servers are handled by a single database and HTTP server.
It is composed of two parts:
- A Cups backend, written in Perl, that does page accounting to a MySQL database. It is currently not designed for quota enforcement.
- A web interface, written in PHP, to monitor users and printers, and display reports. Data is read from the MySQL database.
Main features:
- Manages any printer handled by Cups
- Counts the number of pages in a print job, for various input formats (PS, PCL*,...)
- Support for Syslog
- The web interface displays user and printer stats, top most used printers and active users...
- Support for multiple Cups servers handled by a single database + http server

pscal 1.16
pscal is a shell script to create PostScript calendars. more>>
pscal is a Bourne shell script that produces simple, nice-looking PostScript calendars.
The PostScript code is sent to stdout, so either pipe it to your printer or redirect it to a file.
Version restrictions:
- `Pscal doesnt work for months before 1753. (Weird stuff happened in September, 1752.) It also wont work right as of January 1, 9600. (Bump up the epoch date if you want it to.)
- A better format for the dates of holidays would be nice.
- An escape to allow holiday messages to be raw PostScript would also be nice.
- The holiday messages should be handled more intelligently (i.e., the messages should be clipped to the day).
- Some of the message translations are incomplete.
Enhancements:
- added %%Orientation comment to the prolog (thanks to Ken Pizzini < ken@gnu.org >)
- added Slovak translation and .holiday file (thanks to M.F. PSIkappa < psi@platon.atlantis.sk >)
- added Russian translation (thanks to Alexei A. Gaidioukov < lexey@cda.ipmce.su >) released by Mark Hanson 2005-01-01, mbh@panix.com

preview-latex 0.9.1
preview-latex displays inline previews of various stuff in Emacs LaTeX buffers. more>>
The purpose of the preview-latex package is to embed LaTeX environments such as display math or figures into Emacs source buffers. By mouse clicking, you can open the original text.
After editing, another click will just run the region in question through LaTeX and redisplay the new results. It requires version 21.1 or higher of Emacs or XEmacs and AUCTeX.
WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) sometimes is considered all the rage, sometimes frowned upon. Do we really want it? Wrong question. The right question is what we want from it. Except when finetuning the layout, we dont want to use printer fonts for on-screen text editing.
The low resolution and contrast of a computer screen render all but the coarsest printer fonts (those for low-quality newsprint) unappealing, and the margins and pagination of the print are not wanted on the screen, either.
On the other hand, more complex visual compositions like math formulas and tables cant easily be taken in when seen only in the source. preview-latex strikes a balance: it only uses graphic renditions of the output for certain, configurable constructs, does this only when told, and then right in the source code.
Switching back and forth between the source and preview is easy and natural and can be done for each image independently. Behind the scenes of preview-latex, a sophisticated framework of other programs like `dvipng, Dvips and GhostScript are employed together with a special LaTeX style file for extracting the material of interest in the background and providing fast interactive response.

TkVoice 1.5
TKVOICE is a Telephone Answering Machine(TAM) Frontend for LINUX vgetty. more>>
TKVOICE is a Telephone Answering Machine(TAM) Frontend for LINUX vgetty. TKVOICE is also a Facsimile Answerinmg Machine(FAX) Frontend for vgetty. If you dont have a voice modem you can use mgetty (FAX support only).
Using your voice modem under LINUX, "vgetty" modem software controls the low level calls to your voice modem. TKVOICE is a Frontend that provides a Graphical User Interface(GUI) under X11, KDE or Gnome.
TKVOICE is a TCL/TK script that allows you to record your "outgoing greeting" and play back your incoming voice messages through your sound card. You can also use vgetty for recieving FAX messages and use TKVOICE to view your "incoming FAXs" and print them out to your printer.
This program will always work regardless of what window manager you decide to run (ie/ KDE or GNOME) as this sort of application does not seem to have a high priority with these two popular window managers.
Enhancements:
- works now with lprng print system
- cleaned up refreshing
- fixed date formating with new coreutils
- fixed bugs in my coding to work with tk/tcl v8.4

smbfax 1.5
smbfax is sends a fax to a Samba print share without any Win32 client software. more>>
smbfax is a Unix server which allows you to print via Samba from a Windows client to a hylafax-controlled faxmodem on your server without any additional Win32 software for the client.
Its as easy as File->Print from an application, choose the network fax printer, then check your emails INBOX. You can also view and delete jobs via the standard Windows methods.
Main features:
- Allows users to "print" a document to a network printer. The Samba server then sends the document to smbfax, which prepares it and sends an e-mail to the owner inviting her to complete the fax via a web interface. The user then clicks on the provided link, fills in the fax information (recipient, comment, coverpage options, etc.) and clicks on the "send" button.
- Allows users to manage the send (outgoing) fax queue using the standard Windows method of managing print jobs (you can even select your own jobs and kill them with the delete key)
- You *dont* need to install any client software at all; no need to upgrade WINSOCK.DLL to the latest version or have some systray app running to intercept print jobs. You dont have to use any special drag-and-drop software or e-mail/web gateways with confusing attachments.
- Weve been running it for a (little) while here without any problems, it works just great;
- Its as easy as Print => Check Email
System requirements:
- Hylafax
- Perl 5.004 or better (Plus some modules)
- Apache or any other CGI-BIN webserver
- Samba
- A good POSIX system (tested under linux-2.2.16)

Printbill 4.2.0
Printbill is a sophistocated Unix print billing and/or accounting system with associated administration utilities. more>>
Printbill is a sophistocated Unix print billing and/or accounting system with associated administration utilities. It primarily supports LPRng but now has limited CUPS support as well.
A simple print filter and accompanying daemon perform pre-printing billing, post-printing billing, print-accounting and print job quote generation. In addition, various utilities for administrators and users are provided - including programs to check your print quota and usage patterns, a web interface for both users and administrators and a command-line quote generator.
Charge rates may be specified on per-page, per-percent-coverage or both, and any number of printers/print queues can be provided (with different charge rates and printer parameters). Monochrome and CMYK colour printers are supported (with separate charge rates for both colour and black ink).
For all filters, processing can happen out-of-order, and you may prioritise jobs on the basis of size (jobs larger than a threshold can get lower priority or higher priority as desired) and jobs are billed in parallel / overlapping - jobs which finish billing first get printed first.
This is not necessarily the same as the order of arrival. Detailed stats are collected on a per-printer basis for job size, CPU time for each job, page count and ink/toner coverage, so you can analyse the usage patterns for your printers and predict when a cartridge will need to be replaced. It supports an optional user-supplied anything-to-postscript filter, so you can get properly billed for plain text, DVI files, image files, and so forth as well as PostScript.
Databases and configuration files may be stored on a centralised web server. This allows read-only access so that Unix (and conceivably Windows) clients could easily check quota, calculate quotes etc. remotely.
For fun, an additional filter is provided which allows users to deduct fixed amounts from their accounts (we use it to let students buy drinks and food from an unsecured laboratory fridge).
Enhancements:
- Finished support for per-user per-printer stats, tested that it works.

Lexmark Z11 printer driver for Linux 1.1
Lexmark Z11 printer driver for Linux is a Linux printer driver/filter for the Lexmark Z11 printer. more>>
Lexmark Z11 printer driver for Linux is a Linux printer driver/filter for the Lexmark Z11 printer, supporting color and b/w printing, variable page size and more.
The driver lz11-V2 is an improvement of the lz11 driver, which was first released in 2002. Additionally to the features of lz11, which include variable page sizes and ink saving, the lz11-V2 version comes with a backward compatibility mode for the filters "cZ11" and "cZ11somsom". While the cZ11 filter is emulated in an improved way, which helps to save ink and takes away the grayish look of color prints, the cZ11somsom emulation only supports the basic properties (as InkType and DitherPPI). Ink weighting is not included, but merely needed, because of a new pixel placement algorithm for black and color ink.
"Highlights" of the lz11-V2 are: further improved printing speed for black ink and a tool to align the skew of the black ink cartridge. A smooth-dithering algorithm for black and color prints was added. The driver comes with an improved set of installation and utility scripts that support automatic installation-option-checking, testpage-printing, black-ink-adjustment, automatic installation of foomatic-xml-files as well as automatic installation of the included PPD files for CUPS and PPR. For backward compatibility reason the GhostScript device emulation (as "hpdj", "epsonc", ...) is still included, but should never be offered on "modern" Linux installations.
The original driver-code "cZ11" was written by Christian Kornblum in 2001 (this code still is the backbone of this filter).
WARNING:This driver is known not to work with the Z31 and Z51. In fact, it is known to hose those printers flash in some circumstances!
Enhancements:
- The installer can be called by ./lz11.install --debug, which will produce BMP files instead of paper prints (for test)
- Now the cups-restart is done also properly for Debian and Gentoo
- An installed Z11 printer-queue (PPD) and its options are updated automatically during installation
- The print-job cancelling is now appropriate for hotplug generated devices. Printer "hick-ups" on a resume are prevented
- The print-job cancelling is shown automatically in an "xterm"
- some smaller bug fixes

- some smaller bug fixes

mftrace is a small Python program that lets you trace a TeX bitmap font into a PFA or PFB font (A PostScript Type1 Scalable Font) or TTF (TrueType) font.
Scalable fonts offer many advantages over bitmaps, as they allow documents to render correctly at many printer resolutions. Moreover, Ghostscript can generate much better PDF, if given scalable PostScript fonts.
mftrace project is licensed under the GNU GPL.

LPQ Control 1.0
LPQ Control is a PHP script that parses the output of the lpq command. more>>
Anyone who has spent enough time in Linux probably believes that you can never have enough control.
LPQ Control PHP script is a tool that parses the output of the lpq command and provides a web interface that allows you to remove print jobs from a printer.
You need to make sure that Apache can execute the lprm command. For a
default Apache installation, you will need to add the following line to
your /etc/sudoers file:
apache ALL=(root) NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/lprm
This allows the PHP program to remove *ANY* specified print job.
