Visitors Web Log Analyzer 0.61

Visitors Web Log Analyzer 0.61

Visitors is a very fast Web log analyzer. more>>
Visitors is a very fast web log analyzer for Linux, Windows, and other Unix-like operating systems. It takes as input a web server log file, and outputs statistics in form of different reports. The design principles are very different compared to other software of the same type:
No installation required, can process up to 150,000 lines of log entries per second in fast computers (20MB/s with my log files average length).
Designed to be executed by the command line, output html and text reports. The text report can be used in pipe to less to check web stats from ssh.
Support for real time statistics with the Visitors Stream Mode introduced with version 0.3.
To specify the log format is not needed at all. Works out of box with apache and most other web servers with a standard log format (see the documentation for more information on the format).
Its a portable C program, can be compiled on many different systems. Binaries for Windows systems are in the Download section of this page.
The produced html report doesnt contain images or external CSS, is self-contained, you can send it by email to users.
Visitors is free software (and of course, freeware), under the terms of the GPL license. You dont need to pay to use it. Visitors is supported, if you want a custom version made directly by the original author for a modest price, contact me at antirez (at) invece.org. ISPs may take advantage of the high processing speed.
Main features:
- Requested pages.
- Requested images.
- Referers by hits and age.
- Unique visitors in each day.
- Page views per visit.
- Pages accessed by the Google crawler (and the date of googles last access on every page).
- Percentage of visits originated from Google searches for every day.
- Users navigation patterns (web trails).
- Keyphrases used in Google searches.
- User agents.
- Weekdays and Hours distributions of accesses.
- Weekdays/Hours combined bidimentional map.
- Month/Year combined bidimentional map.
- Visual path analysis with Graphviz.
- Operating systems, browsers and domains popularity.
- 404 errors.
Enhancements:
- This release adds an important bugfix in the unique visitors algorithm.
- The output is now nearer to reality (though unique visitors stats are always a guess without the use of a cookie).

Web Ping 0.1

Web Ping 0.1

Web Ping is a program for testing your internet connection. more>>
Web Ping is a program for testing your internet connection.

Web Ping is a simple application to test an internet connection to a perticular site. I created this application after my work moved locations and half our network stayed in the old building and the other half moved with us to the new location.

A flaky (significant point) VPN was set up to keep the two connected. Since a couple of the unmoved servers were of interest to me, I keeped checking to see if they were still accessable with the ping command before doing any serious work with them.

A quick and pathetic Google resulted in no other program that meet my needes, so I wrote one.

Insted of doing an actual network ping, Web Ping tests a connection by downloading a web page on a given server. The size of the page and time are stored in memory and the times are graphed. In this way, sites that block network a ping can still be tracked.

Web Ping also keeps track of the largest and smallest download times per session and also tracks the max and min values currently on the graph. Times of interest are graphed in a color which represents if it is a max or a min. (see figure one). The history tab also lists all the max values as they have been recevied.

A running average is also calculated with each download. The files downloaded are not processed or stored in any way. This prevents any security problems that can normaly happen in a web browser enviroment. The only two pecies of information retained about a downloaded file is the size and time.

Usage:

There are two ways to use Web Ping, GUI or CLI mode. The simplest of the two modes is CLI. Web Ping can be started in CLI mode by passing a url to the jar file in a command line interface like this: "java -jar WebPing.jar http://localhost". Web Ping will automaticly start getting statistics on the requested url, printing results to the screnn.

To quite, press q and then then ENTER key. CLI allows the user to Most people will probably want to use the GUI mode which has a history graph and allows the user to start and stop the session.

The best way to run Web Ping is in GUI mode. GUI mode allows the user start and stop the ping process at will and to change the site that is pinged. Users can also see more information about about the history of the pings and view max values and min values easily. There are three tabs on the top of the page, the first is the application, second is the history list, and the last give information about the application.

SquTUN 1.1

SquTUN 1.1

SquTUN creates an AES-encrypted, SHA-1 authenticated UDP tunnel more>>
SquTUN creates an AES-encrypted, SHA-1 authenticated UDP tunnel over which IP packets received from a TUN interface are encapsulated and transmitted.
It is intended to replace installations that are currently using CIPE for point-to-point VPNs. Unlike CIPE, SquTUN doesnt require a custom kernel module.
Furthermore, SquTUNs implementation and interface are much less complex, leading to greater confidence in its correctness.
Enhancements:
- This release zeroes out the remainder of the last plaintext block before sending, to avoid sending uninitialized (and possibly private) data.
- It also fixes type mismatch warnings with syslog/printf under -Wall.

BSNMP ping 0.1

BSNMP ping 0.1

BSNMP ping is a module for bsnmpd which allows you to measure latency and reachability. more>>
BSNMP ping is a module for bsnmpd which allows you to measure latency and reachability. It sends out ICMP packets to the configured hosts.

A history of received packets is maintained, and you can query via SNMP how many dropped packets, maximum/minumum latency and other stats for that history period.

As bsnmpd only runs on BSDs (seems that way), this will also be the case for bsnmp-ping.

EXAMPLES

The following example pings two hosts. The first gets pinged once per second, and keeps a history for 300 seconds. The second is pinged 5 times per second, and the history is kept for 30 seconds.

The following would be added to /etc/snmpd.config:

begemotSnmpdModulePath."ping" = "/usr/local/lib/snmp_ping.so"
%ping
pingHost.1 = "10.8.9.2"
pingInterval.1 = 100
pingHistory.1 = 300

pingHost.2 = "2.2.2.2"
pingInterval.1 = 20
pingHistory.1 = 150

Cheops 0.61

Cheops 0.61

Cheops is an Open Source Network User Interface. more>>
Cheops is an Open Source Network User Interface. It is designed to be the network equivalent of a swiss-army knife, unifying your network utilities. Cheops is for the network what a file manager is for your filesystem.
Main features:
- Organize your network into convenient pages so you can place relevant portions together, and quickly go to a specific area or specific network.
- Cheops can optionally determine the OS of hosts on the network, selecting appropriate icons for them.
- Cheops can show you the routes taken to access areas of your network. (This feature is designed for larger networks, with routers, subnets, etc. If you only have a simple LAN where all your hosts are connected with hubs, then itll just draw a bunch of lines between you and the other computers) This mapping not only makes heirarchy clearer, but can show unusual routing issues, like this unusual router triangle. Unfortunately, you have to place the machines yourself, but cheops handles the interconnections.
- Right clicking on a host quickly shows you a list of common services it supports, and rapid, easy access to them.
- For large networks, you can view the network with smaller icons, or even as a simple list of networks. Layout is arrangeable by domain, hostname, IP address, etc and searching is supported in both iconic and list formats.
- Cheops includes a generalized TCP port scanner to see what ports on your network are in use.
- Retrieve version information for certain services, to be sure any given host is up-to-date with the latest revision of its services.
- Cheops is highly configurable both through text-based configuration files and through a graphical "Options" dialog box.
- Cheops includes a simple integrated SNMP browser, including write capability, using the UCD SNMP library. Cheops also supports a plugin interface, which includes support for SNMP plugins, similar in concept to those of HP Openview.
- Cheops can monitor your critical servers, and immediately notify you through its event log, standard e-mail, and soon via paging, when things go wrong. Know exactly whats up or down, and just when problems occur.

Arping 2.05

Arping 2.05

Arping is an ARP level ping utility. more>>
Arping is an ARP level ping utility. Its good for finding out if an IP is taken before you have routing to that subnet. You can also ping MAC addresses directly.

Broadcasts a who-has ARP packet on the network and prints answers. VERY useful when you are trying to pick an unused IP for a net that you dont yet have routing to. Then again, if you have no idea what Im talking about then you prolly dont need it.

Arping is util to find out it a specific IP address on the LAN is taken and what MAC address owns it. Sure, you *could* just use ping to find out if its taken and even if the computer blocks ping (and everything else) you still get an entry in your ARP cache. But what if you arent on a routable net? Or the host blocks ping (all ICMP even)? Then youre screwed. Or you use arping.

Ping Tunnel 0.61

Ping Tunnel 0.61

Ping Tunnel is a tool for reliably tunneling TCP connections over ICMP echo request. more>>
Ptunnel is an application that allows you to reliably tunnel TCP connections to a remote host using ICMP echo request and reply packets, commonly known as ping requests and replies. At first glance, this might seem like a rather useless thing to do, but it can actually come in your help in some cases.
Setting: Youre on the go, and stumble across an open wireless network. The network gives you an IP address, but wont let you send TCP or UDP packets out to the rest of the internet, for instance to check your mail. What to do? By chance, you discover that the network will allow you to ping any computer on the rest of the internet. With ptunnel, you can utilize this feature to check your mail, or do other things that require TCP.
Main features:
- Tunnel TCP using ICMP echo request and reply packets
- Connections are reliable (lost packets are resent as necessary)
- Handles multiple connections
- Acceptable bandwidth (150 kb/s downstream and about 50 kb/s upstream are the currently measured maximas for one tunnel, but with tweaking this can be improved further)
- Authentication, to prevent just anyone from using your proxy
