Ever wanted cute little penguins walking along the tops of your windows? Ever wanted to send an army of cute little penguins to invade the screen of someone else on your network? Probably not, but why not try this program out anyway - its free (licensed under the GNU GPL).
Xpenguins makes cute little penguins fall from the top of your screen and walk on the top of your windows under X11.
You need something that runs the X Window System (Linux, Unix etc), and have the ubiquitous XPM library installed.

Snowball is a jumpnrun game in which the player controls Tux the penguin through the levels. The objective is to guide a snowball safely to the exit.

To achieve this, the player can create ice blocks, collect keys, use transporters, etc. The game comes with a built-in level editor.

CoverViewer is a plugin for XMMS.
Its main task is to display images : it scans the directory containing the file you are playing, and displays them in its window.
It can be a copy of the cover of the album, but why not putting some photos of penguins, so you can have a nice and relaxing slideshow while listening your favourite music...
Main features:
- It creates a personalised skin using the xmms-skin, so your display still looks the way you like it.
- You have buttons (play, pause, etc...) So if you want to minimize xmms and just keep coverviewer, you have all control on the song! There is also a right-click menu to control things.
- You dont have covers, dont want to scan? No problem! Using file information (tags) to get artist and album, CoverViewer can retrieve covers for you from internet... All automatic! (function easilly configurable)

PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is a protocol used by many ADSL Internet Service Providers. Roaring Penguin has a free PPPoE client for Linux and Solaris systems to connect to PPPoE service providers.
Dubbed RP-PPPoE, this open-source product is ideal for Linux users with a DSL "modem" whose Internet service provider uses PPPoE. Before you download this software, check whether or not you really need it.
rp-pppoe your ISP uses PPPoE, but has given you a router, you may not need a PPPoE client on your Linux box. DHCP may work fine.
Enhancements:

- A bug in the MD5 code that caused pppoe-server to segfault on 64-bit architectures was fixed.

Chromium B.S.U. is a fast paced, arcade-style, top-scrolling space shooter.
You are captain of the cargo ship Chromium B.S.U., responsible for delivering supplies to our troops on the front line. Your ship has a small fleet of robotic fighters which you control from the relative safety of the Chromium vessel.
Your Mission:
- Do not let ANY enemy ships get past your fighters! Each enemy ship that makes it past the bottom of the screen will attack the Chromium, and you lose a fighter.
- Use your fighters as weapons! Crash into enemies to destroy them before they can get past you.
- Strategic suicide is a powerful tactic! When the Chromium launches a new fighter, it releases a high energy burst which destroys all enemies in range.
- Self-destruct to preserve your ammunition! A double-right-click will cause your current fighter to self-destruct. Before the ship blows up, it ejects its ammunition so that the next fighter can pick it up.

Otherwise known as the pea shooter. But youll miss em when theyre gone.

This gun slices through your enemies and keeps on going.
PLASMA REPEATER
Your most powerful weapon. The plasma ammunition runs out quickly, however.

The ultimate weapon. Double right-click or press the 0 key twice to eject the fighters ammunition and self-destruct.

The penguin gives you life. Grab this power up to repair all damage to your fighter.

Restores shields to 100% and gives you temporary invulnerability.
TIP: If you let it pass through the bottom of the screen, you will be rewarded with an extra fighter.

laptop is a small theme designed to show the battery laptop status.

The theme look is based on aSensors theme. The basic idea, the battery icons and some of the code is from the sk_battery applet. Other parts are taken from the superkaramba examples.

After I made the first parts, I realized there is too much space left on the panel, so I put a mixer on the widget and a penguin to kill the useless applets (when on battery, I usually dont have internet connection, so I dont need eg. kopete and kcheckgmail).

Note that the penguin-menu appears only when the widget is locked.

I planned first this penguin to hibernate the computer, but this can be done using KLaptop, so it would b useless. If you want to include this feature, Ive left the icon in the pics directory, you can modify the code, eg. by uncommenting and modifying the last line in laptop.theme.

Dont forget to modify the paths for the icons in laptop.py!

Aalib is a portable ascii art GFX library.I vote for simplicity. There are many problems of various kinds with video cards, low frequency monitors, crashing graphical apps@dots{} AA-lib IS the solution. It works on a terminal of any kind, it is fast and portable, it gives to you standard API. It makes your old hardware more powerfull.
AA-lib is a low level gfx library just as many other libraries are. The main difference is that AA-lib does not require graphics device. In fact, there is no graphical output possible. AA-lib replaces those old-fashioned output methods with powerful ascii-art renderer. Now my linux boots with a nice penguin logo at secondary display (yes! Like Win95 does:) AA-lib API is designed to be similar to other graphics libraries. Learning a new API would be a piece of cake!
Once upon a time weve (my friend Kamil and I) bought two old Herculeses as secondary monitors. We didnt know for that time that our Diamond Stealths 64 cards would become obsolete soon. The next day we downloaded the logo of Linux Texas Users Group - nice silly penguin looking like a cowboy! It was so exciting logo ... we decided that we couldnt live without it and we wanted to see it at boot time as a logo on our secondary monitors. There was a small problem - Hercules doesnt support color graphics. So we decided to convert the penguin image to ascii art using netpbm tools.
The output was very ugly because the converting algorithm was absolutly stupid. During the night I designed a new convertor that used a font bitmap to creat an aproximation table. The output wasnt very good since the algorithm wasnt tuned so well. Many months this small piece of code was waiting on my disc for the day "D". Meanwhile I started a new project XaoS (a fractal zoomer) with my friend Thomas. And then I got an idea: Ascii Art Mandelbrots! I was really impressed by the result! XaoS was faster, portable and looking much better than ever before. I found a new way to go @dots{}
