Santa Fe Linux CTR3

Santa Fe Desktop Linux is an easy to use desktop operating system. more>>
Santa Fe Desktop Linux is an easy to use desktop operating system. It puts some of the worlds best open source applications within the reach of non-technical users. It even runs right off the CD so you can try it without installing.
Santa Fe Desktop Linux was built following these design goals:
Make it familiar. Present the user a familiar interface where they dont have to guess which buttons do what.
Keep it small. The distribution should install and run from a single CD.
Make it useful to normal users. The distribution should be useful to a large non-technical audience.
Keep it fun. Make sure audio and video work to the best of their abilities so the users can play games and enjoy multimedia without hassle.
Leave the user alone. Hardware should always be automatically detected and configured without the users help. Software configuration should automatically have sane defaults.
Unlike other operating systems, Santa Fe is designed to automatically configure itself everytime it runs. It will auto-detect the right drivers for your hardware and configure it all to the best of its abilities. No more troublesome driver installs. Santa Fe works best in Plug and Play and DHCP environments.
Main features:
- A viable alternative to your current operating system (OS).

- Santa Fe Linux offers the open source solution to the seemingly impossible dream described above. Santa Fe comes with a program called the GIMP, a fully featured digital photo editing and image/graphics creation program. Blender, another standard program, is a 3D graphics, animation, rendering, and post production program. Managing finances is easy with GNU Cash, an open source program that gets your finances organized quickly. Desktop publishing is simple with Scribus, a program that allows you to create everything from newsletters to a fully produced magazine.
- Also, Santa Fe features a full office suite that is compatible with Microsoft? Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.

whatsnewfm is a filter for the daily newsletter from freshmeat.net that only shows "new" or "interesting" items.

The main purpose is to cut the huge newsletter to a smaller size by only showing items that you didnt see before.

The items already seen will be stored in a database. After some time, the items expire and will be shown again the next time they are included in a newsletter.

If you find an item that you consider particularly useful, you can add it to a "hot" list. Items in the hot list are checked for updates so that you dont miss anything about your favourite programs.

Dream Print Tracking System 1.0.1

Dream Print Tracking System 1.0.1

Dream Print Tracking System is a powerful and user-friendly system for tracking print distribution and circulation. more>>
Dream Print Tracking System is a powerful and user-friendly system for tracking print distribution and circulation.
It uses many principles from customer relationship management (CRM) systems, but in a way specific to print publishers.
The Media Development Loan Fund commissioned Dream based on its experience in working with print publishers in more than 30 countries worldwide, where it provides support to independent media in the form of financing, training and technology.
In many of these countries, print distribution is one of the biggest difficulties independent publishers face because it is tightly controlled. Many countries have print distribution monopolies or cartels, which are either politically tied to the government, corrupt or incompetent.
Dream is a tool for tracking print circulation. In a similar way to customer relationship management (CRM) systems such as Campwares Cream software, Dream allows you to maintain a clear picture of your distribution business based on regularly entered contracts, orders, and shipment information. This is handled primarily through Dreams Report functions. Dream is designed to look and feel like an email application. Its inbox is used for tracking inbound communications such as new customer e-mails and customer phone calls.
Because Dream works with any standard SMTP mail server, it also manages outbound customer communications and keeps records of your responses.
Dream does two things: It is a database that stores all the relevant information you supply about the publications you produce, who distributes, who sells it, and how you connect with these people.
It is also a tool for retrieving and presenting this information in several different ways. It contains utilities for tracking products, promotions, and communications.
Dream handles four types of information:
1. Information about what you produce and the people to whom you provide it. This information is entered on the Options tab of the screen and appears primarily in the menus on the Main tabs screens. One example is a product category in which you describe a periodical you produce.
2. Information about specific products such as books or individual issues of what you produce, specific distributors and specific sellers, and tracking of these items from contract to order to shipment to return.
3. Communications, including records of incoming messages from various sources, outgoing emails to individuals, and newsletters.
4. User information including usernames, passwords, preferences and permissions.
Enhancements:
- Minor bugfixes were made.
- A Russian localization was added.

phpSuperMarketTycoon is an online business simulation.
phpSuperMarketTycoon allows players to create individual grocery and super stores and build their supermarket empire while competing against other players building their own empire.

Enhancements:
{Coding}
- Created a ban IP mechanism. Need to do an interface though.
- Added an optional security image for the signup script. Make sure you read the upgrade.txt file on how to update your db.php file to turn this on.
- Added the forums. They sort of work... :)
- Made an adjustment in the players level so that I can create admins later on.
- Adding sorting to the communities list.
- Added company name and email address to the email admin gets when a new player signs up.
- Store Managers have been added to the game. You can hire them, train them if needed (This takes 8 weeks to complete) and assign them to your stores. You can even fire them if you want. They do have a fairly decent effect on your store sales.
- You now get billed 5% of your square footage for electric fees per week.
(Bugs)
- Corrected the link in the footer to the home page of the project. (Bug 1439620)

- The forum was not doing line breaks correctly. Im hoping that this is fixed. (Bug 1440997)
- Fixed the issue with company name not being shown in the webpage after a new company has been created as well as within the email sent to the game admin. Fixed AGAIN! (Bug 1441007)
- Adjusted the size of the email address within the players table. I guess 25 characters isnt enough. Sorry about that. (Bug 1441015)
- Fixed the issue in the viewcommunities page where it was presenting you a link to build a store when there wasnt one available. Fixed this as well in the buildstore.php page. (Bug 1440517)
- For some reason, when you incorrectly created a store that was too large or didnt have enough money, the script would erase the data that it was holding on the store so you always wound up in sector 1. Fixed I think. (Bug 1440734) Still dont know where that one came from as it was something I made sure that worked before the release.
- Fixed a minor bug in the displaycompanies.php file that would list the stores in the incorrect order.
{SQL}
- Upgraded the SQL install file to include the badips, topics, and posts tables.
- Added the first name and last name tables to the file.
- Added the store managers table to the file.
{Upgrading}
- Started a method of upgrading. It might even work.

Faq-O-Matic 2.721

Faq-O-Matic 2.721

The Faq-O-Matic is a CGI-based system that automates the process of maintaining a FAQ list. more>>
The Faq-O-Matic is a CGI-based system that automates the process of maintaining a FAQ list. It allows visitors to your FAQ to take part in keeping it up-to-date. A permission system also makes it useful as a help-desk application, bug-tracking database, or documentation system. Jon wrote an article about the FAQ-O-Matic that appeared in the USENIX ;login: newsletter: http://www.usenix.org/publications/login/1998-6/faq.html.

This documentation itself is, naturally, maintained with Faq-O-Matic. Hence the weird title. If you see anything that can use updating, please do fix it! If you just want to play around, check out the (Xref) Playground.

A mailing list is very good because it gets together people who have questions with people who have answers.

A mailing list archive is even better, because it lets thoughtful people with Frequently Asked Questions search for an immediate answer, and avoid bothering the people who have answers. Unfortunately, the answers in a mailing list archive become stale over time, are disorganized, and are hard to sift from the conversational noise of the mailing list.

A Frequently Asked Questions list (FAQ) is even better, because the people with questions can be a little lazier and still find their answer right away. Unfortunately, maintaining a FAQ list requires effort; if the people with the answers become lazy, the FAQ list becomes stale.

I wrote the FAQ-O-Matic when I found myself frequently answering a certain question on a mailing list. The FAQ for the list had become stale (its creators interest had succumbed to laziness), and I knew I was far too lazy to take over maintaining my own FAQ.

So, in a triumph of laziness, I wrote the FAQ-O-Matic. The idea is this:

- People with answers can submit them to the FAQ, but
nobody is responsible for knowing all the answers.

- People with corrections can make them to answers, but
nobody is responsible for coordinating corrections.

This worked pretty well, but the first FAQ-O-Matic tended to become disorganized, since no-one was responsible for its structure. So I added commands to move answers and categories around, plus a Moderator feature that lets one person keep track of changes to the FAQ by e-mail:

- A person can keep a subset of the FAQ organized, but he
or she doesnt have to know all the answers or organize
the whole FAQ.

So a FAQ-O-Matic is something that lets the members of a community share the tasks of entering, correcting, and organizing frequently-asked questions and answers. Many folks have found other uses for FAQ-O-Matic, treating it as a general collaborative editing tool.
