Earth 0.2

Earth 0.2

Earth allows you to find files across a large network of machines and track disk usage in real time. more>>
Earth allows you to find files across a large network of machines and track disk usage in real time. The project consists of a daemon that indexes filesystems in real time and reports all the changes back to a central database.
This can then be queried through a simple, yet powerful, web interface. Think of it like Spotlight or Beagle but operating system independent with a central database for multiple machines.
Earth is initially focused on managing the explosion of data that occurs in digital visual effects work.
Enhancements:
- Many small usability improvements, several significant performance improvements for the Web application, reduced database size, code improvements, and a much improved command line interface to the Earth daemon.

LightWave objects
LightWave scenes
Teddy was, at the time of active development, tested and working on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Teddy strictly required one external library, the Simple Directmedia Layer. Other libraries were not strictly needed, but highly recommended. Below is list of libraries that Teddy used:
SDL
SDL_image
SDL_mixer
libjpeg
libpng
libz
It is quite likely that trying to build Teddy on modern setups fails.
If you would like to contact me, then please note that currently (beginning of 2005) my university account has been idle for a while and thus locked. Eventually I will open it again, but the recommended way to contact me anyway is to mail me at timo at futuremark.com.
Enhancements:
- Fixed problems with TinyGL, should work fine again
- Fixed sqrt for non-msvc compilers
- Fixed LightWave material parsing
- Added support for lefthanded coordinate systems (LightWave)

Jesktop 2.0

Jesktop 2.0

Jesktop is a platform-independant Java-based desktop system. more>>
The Jesktop project is a desktop system written in Java that can have GUI applications installed into it. It is semi-dependant upon NanoContainer which is a component framework at Codehaus. NanoContainer and Constructor Dependency Injection are going to change the way we think of Java based component computing.
Jesktop has been under construction since November 2000. Its team was founded by people building Williams Portable Java Environment (PJE) since early 2000.
- To have a fully functional Java desktop environment running on a fully functional Java operating system that is portable across a number of host operating systems, or if there is JDK support in a BIOS layer, without a host operating system.
- To have a single CD installation of Linux (or other Java capable OS) without its own applications, but with NanoContainer, Jesktop and many Java apps pre-configured.
- To see the Jesktop and NanoContainer used widely by Java enthusiasts and deployed on yet to be created Network appliances and palm sized devices (when palm sized devices support J2SE). Thats right, we see this running on small devices. The attraction to hardware manufactureres is obvious - a standard open source OS layer that can support multiple applications safely.
- To see thousands of GPL, MPL, SPL, Commercial etc. etc. apps runnable inside Jesktop. All will be hot installable, reinstallable and de-installable. No reboot/restart necessary. No questions asked.
Main features:
- Multiple GUI applications running inside the same virtual machine.
- Multiple server applications running inside the same virtual machine.
- Drag and drop between applications (to finish)
- Mime type associations for applications (to finish)
- Many built-in, bundled and ported applications.
- Plugable Window Managers.
- Hot installable applications. Hot deinstallable and reinstallable too.
- Externally skinable applications. Apps dont need their own skin logic.

Multiple-Precision Floating-Point Library 2.2.0

Multiple-Precision Floating-Point Library 2.2.0

The MPFR library is a C library for multiple-precision floating-point computations with exact rounding. more>>
The MPFR library is a C library for multiple-precision floating-point computations with exact rounding (also called correct rounding). It is based on the GMP multiple-precision library.

The main goal of MPFR is to provide a library for multiple-precision floating-point computation which is both efficient and has a well-defined semantics. It copies the good ideas from the ANSI/IEEE-754 standard for double-precision floating-point arithmetic (53-bit mantissa).

MPFR is free. It is distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (GNU Lesser GPL). The library has been registered in France by the Agence de Protection des Programmes under the number IDDN FR 001 120020 00 R P 2000 000 10800, on 15 March 2000.

This license guarantees your freedom to share and change MPFR, to make sure MPFR is free for all its users. Unlike the ordinary General Public License, the Lesser GPL enables developers of non-free programs to use MPFR in their programs. If you have written a new function for MPFR or improved an existing one, please share your work!

ArX 2.2.4

ArX 2.2.4

ArX is a Revision Control System (RCS), like CVS, Subversion, or GNU arch. more>>
ArX is a Revision Control System (RCS), like CVS, Subversion, or GNU arch. It manages "archives" (collections of files), such as source code files for a software project.
ArX tracks the history of each file, along with change comments, version tags, forks and branches, etc. It can store files and documents of any kind, but the largest benefits are with text files, rather than binary files.
Main features:
- Ease of learning and use
- Powerful branching and merging features
- Speed, even when working with large repositories
- Effective distributed development
- Friendly and helpful user and developer communities
- Cryptographic data integrity features
- Ability to publish archives on almost any server
- Portability to multiple operating systems (still in progress)
Like CVS (and most modern RCS tools), ArX uses an "optimistic" locking model, which allows multiple developers to modify the same file at the same time, and then resolves any conflicts as each developer checks in his or her work. While this may sound scary if you are used to systems that "lock" files, it actually works very well, as confirmed by the thousands of projects that have used this approach (in CVS) for many years.
Unlike CVS and most traditional RCS tools, ArX is "distributed", which means that ArX does not require a central server. Each developer can maintain their own "archive" of their projects, but can easily share their work with other developers. This modern design works well with teams that are geographically distributed, and especially with teams where some contributors are not part of the core team.
ArX includes an optional patch queue manager to enable centralized, CVS-style, development when desired. ArX differs from many of the newer distributed SCM tools in that it does not require every working tree to contain an entire copy of the archive history.
Each archive can store multiple branches, each of which could be checked out in multiple working trees. Other tools may use the terms "patch pooling" or "centralized storage" for this type of feature, and it is important for efficient branching on systems without hardlinks. Also, ArX archives can link to other archives (including remote archives) for older history, allowing branches of remote projects to be very small and fast.
Another important feature of ArX is that an archive can be published on any HTTP web server. It does not require any special code running on the server, which has some significant advantages: First, it allows projects to host their code on almost any inexpensive web site, including the free personal home pages offered by many ISPs. Second, it keeps the server very secure, because the only service required is a standard web server such as Apache or Boa.
Enhancements:
- ArX now uses three-way merging as a default, and supports third party merge tools.
- ArX is also much more clever about renames.
- "merge" now uses the --update option instead of using heuristics.
- ArX now records when there are conflicts in the tree, and will not let you commit unless they are resolved.
- ArX now uses -v and -q for verbosity.
- "commit" now supports --author and --date options for Tailor.
- The patch queue manager has been updated, and some small bugs were fixed.

J Operating System

J Operating System

J Operating System is primarily intended for programmers. more>>
J Operating System is primarily intended for programmers.
Target Users:
- Hobbiests--You used to buy computers to do programming. They didnt do much else. Windows doesnt even come with a compiler, which is ironic since Bill Gates wrote BASIC. The "J" operating system is primarily intended for programmers. Ive attempted to lower the bar, so amateurs can contribute. I hope to recreate the dynamic environment that used to exist when the Commodore 64 was around and everyone was creating odd-ball software.
- Researchers--Im sure many lab researchers still use DOS because they have to interact with hardware, which is difficult with Windows.
Main features:
- No security! You can access all ports, memory and disk blocks to your hearts content. When youre working with your own computer, security just gets in the way and makes things slow--I hate anti-virus and anti-spyware because they just slow things down. When you know you dont have a risk, have no secrets and do regular back-ups, who needs security?
- Uniformity
- There is no virtual memory and everyone is on the same address-map. You can easily communicate between tasks, passing addresses. Addresses start at a base of zero and, essentually, segment registers are not used.
- There is basically one language to learn called "C+" which is a little more than "C", but less than "C++". You dont need to learn a scripting langauge because everything uses this syntax.
- There is an extension of ASCII called "J" rich text which allows colors, links, graphics and various widgets in your documents. This format is used in source code, documents, help, menus, etc.
- Support for compressed, encrypted and contiguous files.
- FAT32, FAT12 and ISO9660 filesystems.
- Blazing-fast compiler which can recompile everything in 5 seconds. It doesnt optimize.
- All source code is included and its still around a Meg.
Hardware:
- PS/2 mouse and keyboard
- VGA graphics
- Some hard drives. Must be on the primary or secondary IDE controller and support LBA28. Drives of 120Gig are the limit.
- Some CD-ROM/DVD drives, including burning.
- Some floppies. Just 1.44Meg and not all types.
- No USB support yet
- No network support yet
- ASCII printers on the parallel port are supported.
