Ayttm is an instant messaging (aka chat) client that provides all-in-one chat functionality for several major instant messaging services from one simple program. Ayttm "Contacts" allow you to refer to several accounts of the same person from a single contact name, making it one of the cleanest and simplest clients to use.
Ayttm is the heir of the Everybuddy project, and aims to continue improving the program and addressing its shortcomings. Our primary goal is to provide a messenger which is :
- simple: Ayttm should work nicely without having to first go through a complicated configuration procedure. The preferences should be simple and minimal.
- stable: Ayttm should not crash when you use it.
- intuitive: Ayttm should be almost instantly usable by my mother ;)
- flexible: Ayttm supports multiple protocols and they should be supported in an integrated manner (common interface, for example), without limiting protocol-specific features support. Ayttm currently handles Yahoo!, MSN, Jabber, IRC, AIM and ICQ.
Ayttm is developed primarily for Linux but it is also available on BSD and Windows NT/2000 platforms.

HooDaHek (hoo-dah-hek, as in who-the-heck?) is a collection of Asterisk AGI scripts, CGI scripts, and MySQL tables intended to implement your own in-house Caller ID database and notification services.
I wrote these scripts originally to enable my household phone system to identify who was calling, be able to modify and specify my own custom CallerID labels, and to have the phone system alert us via AOL Instant Messenger or MSN Messenger as to who was calling (or had called).
Main features:
- Caller calls into your Asterisk system via IAX, SIP, or PSTN
- Your extensions.conf context sends CLID information to the hoodahek_dbhandle AGI script.
- hoodahek_dbhandle determines if the caller has called before based on the phone number.
- If YES, it does nothing.
- If NO, it inserts a row into the hoodahek table to identify the caller on subsequent calls. The initial information used is the information supplied by the telcos CLID transmission. If configured, an email is sent notifying someone of the insertion into the system. This information can then be edited by the CGI scripts provided.
- Control returns to the dialplan.
- The dialplan passes information to the hoodahek_notify AGI script.
- hoodahek_notify looks to see if stored information about this caller is in the hoodahek table.
- If YES, hoodahek_notify uses this information to announce the caller via AIM/MSN.
- If NO, hoodahek_notify looks to see if the CLID system has passed information about the caller (name, number)
- If YES, it uses that information to announce the caller via AIM/MSN.
- If NO, it announces the caller anonymously.
- hoodahek_notify uses the information it found to write a call queue file in the queue directory for the hoodahekbot.
- Control passes back into the dialplan to do whatever comes next.
- hoodahekbot scans the queue directory every second to look for new call files. When it finds one, it opens it, scans in the lines, and deletes it. It then sends an IM to each recipient as configured.

ChatSniff is an easy to use program for Linux that monitors, or "sniffs" networks for AIM, MSN, Yahoo! and Jabber instant messages.
It requires recent versions of python, python-gtk2, python-glade2, and tethereal.
python-pyao (for sound) and gksu are optional, but recommended (the packages require them).

MultiMediaBox provides several features in a single application. The program supports the installation and removal of plugins to provide the functionalities.

MultiMediaBox comes with the following plugins already installed:

- MediaPlayer: With this plugin you can play video and sound files in several formats (.mp3, .mpeg, ...).
- P2P: With the P2P plugin, the user can enter in P2P networks like FastTrack, Gnutella and OpenFT.
- SMS: You can send SMS through the clickatell SMS gateway (http://www.clickatell.com).
- MSN: With the MSN plugin, the user can talk with friends in MSN.

Guifications is a Gaim plugin that displays msn style "toaster" popups in a user defined corner of the screen.

Guifications is highly configurable, and easy to use. There are a ton of preferences, that may be daunting at first, but are pretty straight forward.

Twisted Words library provides implementations of a handful of IM protocols, including IRC, MSNP8, OSCAR, TOC, and Jabber.

Twisted Words provides two separate high-level end-user features:

a multiprotocol instant messaging server
a multiprotocol instant messaging client

These are both still in the early stages of development and are not expected to work flawlessly in all configurations, however each is quite usable for a limited set of functionality. A Twisted Words server can be created with just a couple commands:

$ mktap words --irc-port 6667 --pb-port 8787 --passwd password_file --group somegroup
$ twistd -f words.tap

The Twisted Words client is named im and is usable as an IRC client, and possibly an AIM client (depending on the phase of the moon).

Pebrot is a text MSN messenger client implemented with Python. It has also a pretty and colorful Curses-based interface. It is developed to work under Linux and should work fine on any other *nixes.
