Free livecd software for linux

This is a fedora core 3 based Livecd with KDE 3.3.1, Gnome 2.8, OpenOffice, Fire- and Thunderbird and a lot of other tools.
Version restrictions:
- It will not work from a scsi - cdrom device.

Pollix is a Live CD with many programming tools (for Java, Python, Perl and Tcl/Tk). Based on Knoppix, Pollix boots from the CD and detects hardware automatically - there is no need for installation.
Main features:
- Include many programming tools: J2SE SDK (full with doc), Jikes, Netbeans, Eclipse, BlueJ, JGrasp, JSwat, Tomcat, JBoss, Boa-Constructor, IDLE, SPE, VisualTcl, SWIG, SciTE, etc., and several Java, Python and Perl libraries
- Include XCIN to support Chinese character input (invoke an application by command line "/usr/local/bin/chinese app_name")
- Update software from Debian testing/unstable

UTUTO XS is a desktop and extensible solution based totally in Free/Libre software. It only includes (and will ever do) free/libre and open source software. But it let users the possibility to install other programs.

ffsearch-LiveCD is a modified Knoppix-Linux with Fast File Search running on top of it. This way, no installation is required!

You can download an Iso, burn it on CD, put the disc in you CD-drive and boot it up. It crawls the net for SMB and FTP shares and provides you with a web interface for searching these files.

The Real-Time Application Interface is a hard real-time extension to the Linux kernel, contributed in accordance with the Free Software guidelines.
It provides the features of an industrial-grade RTOS, seamlessly accessible from the powerful and sophisticated GNU/Linux environment.
The bootable CD-ROM provided on this website allows you to determine whether your systems hardware is capable of being used as a hard real-time system.
Furthermore, this website provides information about the real-time performance of various systems, which might help you when buying hardware for building hard real-time systems.
The LiveCD is based on RTAI (Realtime Application Interface) and provides easy-to-use menus that guide users through running the test suite and submitting the results and system configuration information to an Internet database.

Paldo is a Upkg driven GNU/Linux distribution. Its kind of a mix of a source and a binary distribution. Even though it builds packages like a source distribution it provides binary packages.
Paldo stands for "pure adaptable linux distribution" and we try to accomplish this in every package. paldo comes with very few patches against its packages. We have virtually no local changes, means every patch is one which will go upstream anyway (e.g. compile fixes) or one needed by the LFS build system to enable us to boostrap correctly.
Its very easy to make changes to the distro. You can change every package by providing a local version of the sources and specifications youve changed. You can even configure your system automatically through local differencial repositories (see My paldo). The whole distribution is very flexible because its built on top of Upkg.
Paldo wants to be a distribution according to the "just-works" principle. It tries to configure automatically as much as possible without user intervention. paldo is task-oriented, means, that we wont provide several programs to do one and the same task, we will select the program which we think does this task best, and include it into paldo. paldo aims to support cutting-edge technologies. It is pure NPTL based (no linuxthreads support) and therefore does not work with a Linux kernel older than 2.6.x.
Since paldo is task oriented we also have only one desktop environment, the GNOME desktop environment.
Paldo does not split packages, means, all development files will be installed if you install a library. All files you need around a package will be available as soon as it is installed.
Paldo only supports the x86 architecture at the moment and we do not plan to extend that much (except of the x86_64 platform). It is a _very_ popular arch making us the life very easy.

Hurd LiveCD is different because it uses the Hurd kernel replacement instead of using the Linux kernel.

The Hurd uses a set of servers sitting on top of a microkernel (GNU Mach) to provide kernel services. The alternative kernel design is a monolithic kernel like Linux where you are obliged to unload and load modules as root.

In the Hurd when you use the `ps -ef command, youll see processes for your microkernel, TCP/IP stack, filesystems, terminals and more! /dev/null isnt some mysterious bit-bucket that the kernel takes care of, it is a running process in userland.

And thats just the start -- there is the idea of a superunprivileged user, setting translators, neighbourhurds and more. Other LiveCDs dont have these features; they dont run the Hurd.

The Hurd aims to enrich the users life by eliminating arbitrary limitations from the system. To some degree it succeeds, and to some degree it is still defficient -- the current Mach microkernel has been identified as the source of some of these defficiencies.

Work is being completed on porting the Hurd to a microkernel called L4. It is expected that this migration will fix the defficiencies to an extent. This Hurd LiveCD is about getting YOU to use it as a technology demonstrator -- and its about getting YOU to join and help.

Note: This LiveCD does not support USB devices, PCMCIA cards or sound cards
