JaCL Linux 0.2005-07-11 beta1

JaCL Linux 0.2005-07-11 beta1

JaCL Linux (Just a Command Line Linux) is a live CD distribution (a Knoppix remaster) of the Linux operating system. more>>
JaCL Linux (Just a Command Line Linux) is a live CD distribution (a Knoppix remaster) of the Linux operating system. JaCL Linux is designed to be run as a command line driven server or utility system.
Most major command line applications or server software available in a standard Linux distribution are available in JaCL Linux. Most X11 server software and applications have been intentionally removed from the distribution in order to streamline the
distribution for use as a server or utility system.
Examples of server or utility uses for JaCL include: web server, ftp server, DNS server, SMB server, rsync server, syslog server, local disk mirroring utility, remote rsync disk mirroring utility or hardware diagnostics utility.
The removal of the X server and X applications streamlines the distribution, reduces maintenance, and may reduce the risk of vulnerabilities.
Additionally other applications have been intentionally removed or omitted from the distribution, including applications which may pose a security risk if the server is user level compromised (i.e. network scanning utilities and packet sniffing tools).
The result is a full command line live CD distribution which is about half the size of a full Knoppix CD distribution.
Main features:
- an easily upgradable system
- a password protected system by default
- security warning banners (a requirement in some work environments)
- a security hardened base system
- an easy mechanism for systems administrators to automatically configure the system at bootup
- most server and utility applications included (the fact that Knoppix<<less

Just like another linux live CD available at this moment, SLAMPP gives a linux newbie a chance to test linux without messing up the existing system of the user.
What makes it different is the fact that SLAMPP comes with preconfigured tools and applications that turn your personal computer to a home server. Can you imagine how handy it is to have and carry a linux live CD that provides all things you need to setup such kind of server?
SLAMPP is built using SLAX as its base and Slackware linux for packages. This means you are going to have two powerful distros in one, although SLAX is also based on Slackware linux. To compile all things into a working live CD, linux live scripts is used intensively.

Beside all modules provided in the live CD, you can also make or create you own modules. All tools to do this can be found in the live CD.
- Webmasters and web developers can use SLAMPP to show their work to others. To support this feature special scripts have been provided in the live CD. They only need to burn all files onto the CD and SLAMPP will take care of the rest.
- Using linux kernel 2.6 which provides better support for hardware.
- All settings and configuration made during use can be stored in harddisk and restored for next session.
- It can be installed onto harddisk if you want to employ the server permanently.
- Equipped with firewall, antivirus and content scanner.

Hikarunix 0.4

Hikarunix 0.4

Hikarunix is a Linux live CD based on Damn Small Linux and dedicated to Go - a popular Asian strategy game. more>>
Hikarunix linux is a Live Linux CD distribution. Any PC that can boot to CD can boot to Hikarunix instead of the computers regular operating system. Since it boots entirely in RAM and only borrows the peripherals, Hikarunix doesnt touch the host machine at all.
Shut the machine down, pop the CD out, reboot and youll find yourself back with the same old OS that you started with. No installation or partitioning necessary. The fact that it fits on a pocket sized miniCD and can boot on just about any machine makes it extremely portable. Internet cafes, Library computers, a borrowed laptop can all be your personal, temporary Go workstation. If you wish you can also install it to your harddrive.
The name was inspired by the Japanese manga and anime series Hikaru No Go. Its about the world of Professional Go as seen by Junior High School student Hikaru and his ghost Go mentor Sai. Its a lot better then I make it sound, besides, admit it, reading comics is still fun. Pick up a copy of the English translation of the comic here.
Hikarunix itself and any additions Ive made are covered by the GNU General Public License, although the individual packages installed in Hikarunix retain their original licenses. This means that Hikarunix is entirely free. Feel welcome to make copies for your friends, family and co-workers, start a Go club and hand it out to all members. I put this CD together to open this great game to a wider audience, so the more copies that are out there the better.
Hikarunix will always be free, but if youd like to contribute to the cause you might consider donating to the project. You can also pick up an "official" miniCD, a Hikarunix USB drive, or a plethora of mugs and tshirts from our store. I also an just a beginner at Go and am still terrible at the game. If anyone would like to donate a Go lesson I can be found on most Go servers as t1ckt0ck.
