Tremulous 1.1.0
Tremulous for Quake 3 Arena is an open source modification that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS. more>>
Tremulous for Quake 3 Arena is an open source modification that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS. Players can choose from 2 unique races, aliens and humans. Players on both teams are able to build working structures in-game like an RTS.
These structures provide many functions, the most important being spawning. The designated builders must ensure there are spawn structures or other players will not be able to rejoin the game after death. Other structures provide automated base defense (to some degree), healing functions and much more...
Player advancement is different depending on which team you are on. As a human, players are rewarded with credits for each alien kill. These credits may be used to purchase new weapons and upgrades from the "Armoury". The alien team advances quite differently. Upon killing a human foe, the alien is able to evolve into a new class. The more kills gained the more powerful the classes available.
The overall objective behind Tremulous is to eliminate the opposing team. This is achieved by not only killing the opposing players but also removing their ability to respawn by destroying their spawn structures.
Main features:
- New flexible particle system for Q3 - can create smoke, water, fire easily in Q3 maps.
- 16 buildable structures with in-game functions.
- Play as several alien classes with unique abilities.
- Customize your setup as a human and buy new weapons, armour and items.
- Scale the walls and ceilings as an alien waiting for an unsuspecting human.
- Realistic physics and motion - no bunny hopping or quick back peddling.
- Flexible map system - animated mapobjects, triggering, light flares, etc.
- Large weapons system - dont like the weapon you have? Sell it and buy a different one, dozens of options.
Enhancements:
- New stand alone version -- Q3 no longer required
- New trail rendering system
- New tutorial system

PAUS - Perl AUtomation System 1.0 beta
PAUS - Perl AUtomation System is a Perl home automation system. more>>
Paus is all about controlling "stuff" with easy scripts. You could for example make the light in your house go on and off in the way you specify.
You also could use paus to create a remote controlled mp3box that also has a web-interface at the same time and shows the current song on an LCD display.
With paus you can send and receive "events" from so called "modules":
* There are IO modules to control hardware, like lights and sensors.
* Theres an UI module to control an universal userinterface.
* Theres an IR module to receive events from remote controllers.
* There are many more to come.
Paus is designed to be as flexible and clean as possible. Its very easy to control the modules by using simple perl-scripting.
Its also very easy to create additional modules in perl or C. Modules even can be controlled accros the internet. (it doesnt make a difference at all).

pyglplot 0.1.0
pyglplot is an interactive 3D plotting and visualization tool written as a Python module that uses OpenGL and the GIMP Toolkit. more>>
pyglplot is a program to 3D-plot mathematical functions and datafiles. It is written as a module for python and as such features the full power and flexibility of the python programming language.
Main features:
Data Sources
- Plot python functions
- Plot python dictionaries containing the coordinates of the points and their position in the grid
- Plot plain datafiles as understood for example by gnuplot
Graphics
- Can make 3D plots of surfaces in normal or parametric mode
- Support coordinate transforms, i.e. can make e.g. polar plots
- Support for pm3d-style coloring of the surface
- Support for wireframe plotting atop of the surface
- Support for transparency: translucent plots
- Support for different types of fog and arbitrary background colors
- Support for dynamic light and specular reflexes etc.
- Use either perspective projection or parallel projection
- Save the rendered plots as portable network graphics (.png)
- Adjust all graphics parameters via dialog windows
Platforms
- This program is developed and tested on Max OS X 10.4 on powerpc with fink and Debian GNU/Linux on i386. It should compile and run everywhere where its prerequisites and requisites thereof are available. These are gtkglext-1.0 and gthread-2.0. Some minimum versions of the libriaries must be met, unfortunately, the gtk+-2.2 packages provided by fink for Mac OS X 10.3 are not sufficient -- perhaps I will port it there.

Light Hawk 0.6
Light Hawk is a Jabber client with a focus on KDE integration. more>>
Light Hawk is a KDE Jabber client. It is unfinished, but I have been using it every day for some time now.
Those interested in following or helping development should use GNU arch 1.2 or later. My archive is neil@hakubi.us--terminus and is available at http://www.hakubi.us/arch/terminus/. The branch to get is lighthawk--mainline.
To compile the arch version of Light Hawk you will also need to get neil@hakubi.us--terminus/admin--KDE-3-0-BRANCH and symlink that into the top level of lighthawk as "admin".
After that its mostly an ordinary KDE application (run gmake -f Makefile.cvs to get a configure script). You must run that configure script in a separate directory, though, arch to cooperate later.
Main features:
- Roster management
- Subscriptions
- Chat messages
- Receving normal messages
- Multiple user profiles
- Session management cooperation
- Logging
- KNotify support (including sounds)
- Invisible status
- Away messages
- IPv6, Proxies, and other KDE network features

Optical Ray Tracer 1.0
OpticalRayTracer is a free Linux utility that analyzes systems of lenses. more>>
OpticalRayTracer is a free Linux utility that analyzes systems of lenses, it is Xwindows GUI-based.
It uses optical principles and a virtual optical bench to predict the behavior of many kinds of ordinary and exotic lens types. OpticalRayTracer includes an advanced, easy-to-use interface that allows the user to rearrange the optical configuration by simply dragging lenses around using the mouse.
OpticalRayTracer fully analyzes lens optical properties, incuding refraction and dispersion. The dispersion display uses color-coded light beams, as shown above, to simplify interpretation of the results.
Educators take note: OpticalRayTracer has significant educational potential in the teaching of basic optical principles, and it has some entertaining and game-like behaviors to hold the students attention.
OpticalRayTracer includes a detailed tutorial/help file to assist the user in getting started in this interesting activity.
Installation:
Put it in any convenient location.
$ tar -xjf raytracer.tar.bz2
$ cd raytracer.dist
$ ./auto_install.sh
If you dont want the automatic installation or you want to fine-tune the process, instead of running "auto_install.sh", after the unpacking step above, do this:
$ make -f Makefile.cvs dist
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install
Obviously you may want to modify some of these steps to suit your platform.

SCRAP 1.0.0
SCRAP is capable of working with any video4linux compatible device, supporring all of its documented features. more>>
SCRAP project is capable of working with any video4linux compatible device, supporring all of its documented features.
It can grab frames from multiple inputs of a single device and also support working with multiple capture boards at the same time, giving user the advantage of a low-cost recording system.
It has a very reliable motion detection system, recording only when movement happens and ignoring the rest, including light changes. So, in a tipical 24h recording cycle, you will have only a few hours of recorded video.
Videos are recorded using XviDs MPEG-4 compression, witch is one of the best video codecs today. The generated AVIs should be playable on AVI+MPEG4 capable video player (all modern video players are).
There is also a recording archive management system, with alow the user keep archived only the recent recordings, erasing the old ones. User can set to erase recordings older than a number of days, or set a maximum disk usage.
Although SCRAP is a console application, it is full featured. It is intented to be run as a daemon, in the background, letting SCRAP doing the recording job without other systems users even notice it is running.

Matchbox 1.0
Matchbox provides a lightweight, flexible base user environment for X11 applications on non-desktop embedded platforms. more>>
Matchbox provides a lightweight, flexible base user environment for X11 applications on non-desktop embedded platforms.
Matchbox is an Open Source base environment for the X Window System running on non-desktop embedded platforms such as handhelds, set-top boxes, kiosks and anything else for which screen space, input mechanisms or system resources are limited.
Matchbox consists of a number of interchangable and optional applications that can be tailored to a specific non desktop platform to enhance usability in a constrained enviroment.
The core and most developed application is a window manager with a classic stack based PDA like management policy. It supports modern window management standards, cutting edge X capabilities, advanced themeing and various window types.
Other Matchbox applications include a panel ( with many example applets ), a PDA style desktop launcher, a shared utility library, software input mechanisms and more.
All matchbox applications are designed to be fast, light and flexible. They are not tied no any GUI toolkit with all dependencies being controllable at build time.
Matchbox includes a PDA-style "stacking" Window Manager, a panel and applets, a PDA "desktop" launcher, and more.
Who uses Matchbox?
Matchbox is used to form a base for various handheld user interface enviroments such as Maemo used on the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet and GPE - a popular Open Source GTK based Palmtop Environment.
Usage extends beyond handhelds to other non desktop devices including industrial tools like the Drewtech ScanDAQ, Web Kiosks and set-top boxes.
Youll find Matchbox available in embedded distributions such as OpenEmbedded and Familiar and more general purpose Linux distributions such as Debian.
Enhancements:
- This release adds improvements to themeing, a maemo-related tweak, and various other minor enhancements throughout.

Gtkedit1 1.0
Gtkedit is a notepad clone based on GTK+. more>>
Gtkedit1 is a notepad clone based on GTK+.
Gtkedit1 is a simple editor, written using the GTK+ 1.2 toolkit. It aims to be (in that order) light, useful and simple (source code-wise).
Main features:
- Binary weight less that 30 KB.
- Takes less than half a second to start in the development machine.
- Has nearly all the features of Windows 2000 Notepad (only printing and help are missing).
- The C source code is a single file, about 1400 lines long. No need to use a configure script or even a makefile.
What? another editor? Dont we have enough of them already?
Well, yes, indeed. There are quite a lot of different - and not so different - editors one can download from the Internet. Anyway...
1. I wanted a simple project to try GUI programming in Unix.
2. I have an old machine (Pentium 166 MHz, 32 MB RAM) with Slackware Linux 9.0. 3. This machine runs Xfce 3.8, based on GTK+ 1.2.
Theres no decent GUI editor for this machine. All are too slow, too bloated or too ugly.
OK, In fact I did found an editor that works fine. Its called gnotepad+, but it too takes too long to load (about 2 seconds) in this old machine. Theres plenty of room for improvements here, I thought.
And so gtkedit begun. I only wanted the most basic editing features: cut, copy, paste, basic undo/redo... nothing fancy. The obvious model to copy was, of course, Notepad.
Usage:
gtkedit is very simple to use. It understands the basic common shortcut keys, like < Ctrl >C for copy. You will find them listed next to each menu item.
Very basic undo/redo capabilities are provided, because the editor can only undo the very last text insertion or removal.
You can find and replace text, and there is a menu option that will allow you to quickly go to any particular line, which is handy if one is writting a program and wants locate an error line.
Finally, you can change the font used for text display, or toggle the wrapping of long lines. These settings are lost when the program closes, though.
