distccKNOPPIX 0.1.3

distccKNOPPIX 0.1.3

distccKNOPPIX is a directly bootable and self-configuring Linux system on a small (55MB) iso running a distccd daemon. more>>
distccKNOPPIX is a directly bootable and self-configuring Linux system on a small (55MB) iso running a distccd daemon. distccKNOPPIX is a simple remastering of Knoppix running a distccd daemon and some general cleaning up/removal of unneeded packages/apps.
Its obvious target is for those who have other machines at their hands, and for some reason or an other can not get a distccd daemon running on it.
Attention Gentoo Users: The distccKNOPPIX (Debian) version of gcc is not patched with pie or protector support like the Gentoo version is. Im working on fixing this, but you will probably have problems compiling glibc, grub and perhaps other programs until this issue is remedied.
All versions are identical except for the default gcc. All downloads have all 4 versions of gcc. You can also change the default gcc at the boot prompt by typing knoppix gcc-3.4 for example. Or you can change the gcc version at the command line with update-alternatives --config gcc. If you are unsure which version to download, try the gcc-3.3 one.
Main features:
- Kernel 2.4.26
- distcc 2.16 (port 3632)
- gcc 2.95.4, 3.2.3, 3.3.4, 3.4.1
- cpp 2.95.4, 3.2.3, 3.3.4, 3.4.1
- g++ 2.95.4, 3.2.3, 3.3.4, 3.4.1
Enhancements:
- added c++ link to g++
- more cleanups
- created a mailing list

Plan-B Linux 1.0

Plan-B Linux 1.0

Plan-B is a bootable Linux environment without the need for a hard drive. more>>
Plan-B is a bootable Linux environment without the need for a hard drive, it runs entirely in ram or from the cd, based on a basic, stripped installation of Red Hat Linux and the fundamental workings of the SuperRescue CD. A list of tools and utilities are also included for projects such as:

* Forensics/Data Recovery
* System/Network Analysis and Security Scanning
* Temporary Network Device/Server
* IDS / NIDS System
* Network Status Report Creation

My reason for its creation came about due to finding other similar projects (SuperRescue CD, Biatchux (F.I.R.E.), Trinux, Knoppix) to be geared toward only a single area of the broad spectrum I was looking for. The first of which (by H. Peter Anvin, the author of Syslinux, Isolinux, and zisofs) was the only one close to the concept I had in mind which is why I chose it as the foundation for this cd. After not finding what I was really looking for, the "All-in-One", I decided the only way to get it was to build one myself.

grml-small 0.1

grml-small 0.1

grml-small is a bootable CD (Live-CD) based on Knoppix and Debian. more>>
grml-small is a bootable CD (Live-CD) based on Knoppix and Debian. grml-small includes a collection of GNU/Linux software for system administrators and provides automatic hardware detection.

Whereas grml (without the -small) provides more than about 2.1GiB of software on a 700MB-ISO, grml-small is a very small rescue system for systemadministrators.

It is not necessary to install anything to a harddisk, you dont even need a harddisk to run it. Due to on-the-fly decompression grml-small includes about 150 MB of software and still fits on a business card CD-ROM or USB device with 50MB.

Initial release of grml-small, a very small version of the grml-system. Notice that there are several hacks to reduce the ISO-size, so you wont find for example documentation and manpages on the ISO.

grml-small provides support for booting via USB, see http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=usb for details.

Kernel is based on vanilla kernel 2.6.12 including several patches (MPPC/MPPE, Reiser4, Squashfs,...) but compared with the normal grml system the kernel features have been reduced. See http://grml.org/kernel/ for more details.

JaCL Linux 0.2005-07-11 beta1

JaCL Linux 0.2005-07-11 beta1

JaCL Linux (Just a Command Line Linux) is a live CD distribution (a Knoppix remaster) of the Linux operating system. more>>
JaCL Linux (Just a Command Line Linux) is a live CD distribution (a Knoppix remaster) of the Linux operating system. JaCL Linux is designed to be run as a command line driven server or utility system.
Most major command line applications or server software available in a standard Linux distribution are available in JaCL Linux. Most X11 server software and applications have been intentionally removed from the distribution in order to streamline the
distribution for use as a server or utility system.
Examples of server or utility uses for JaCL include: web server, ftp server, DNS server, SMB server, rsync server, syslog server, local disk mirroring utility, remote rsync disk mirroring utility or hardware diagnostics utility.
The removal of the X server and X applications streamlines the distribution, reduces maintenance, and may reduce the risk of vulnerabilities.
Additionally other applications have been intentionally removed or omitted from the distribution, including applications which may pose a security risk if the server is user level compromised (i.e. network scanning utilities and packet sniffing tools).
The result is a full command line live CD distribution which is about half the size of a full Knoppix CD distribution.
Main features:
- an easily upgradable system
- a password protected system by default
- security warning banners (a requirement in some work environments)
- a security hardened base system
- an easy mechanism for systems administrators to automatically configure the system at bootup
- most server and utility applications included (the fact that Knoppix<<less

TINA KNOPPIX Live CD 2.0.0

TINA KNOPPIX Live CD 2.0.0

TINA is an open source environment developed to accelerate the process of image analysis research. more>>
TINA is an open source environment developed to accelerate the process of image analysis research.

TINA provides functionality to assist in all areas of image analysis including handling of image, image feature and geometrical data; statistical and numerical analysis of data; GUI development as well as transmission and containment of data.

TINA also provides a range of high-level analysis techniques for both machine vision (3D object location, 2D object recognition, temporal-stereo depth estimation, etc) and medical image analysis (MR tissue segmentation, blood flow analysis, etc).

Now, thanks to the magic of KNOPPIX, you can experience TINA without installing any software. Simply place the CD into the CD drive of any PC and reboot.

Place the CD into the CD drive of any (reasonably modern) PC and reboot. The PC must be able to boot from the CD drive: if your own bootloader or windows starts up, reboot again and check your bios settings (you will probably be prompted to press DEL during startup). On the bios settings screen, check the boot devices: the first should be the floppy drive, the second the CD drive and the third the hard drive (possibly with a fourth option of booting from a network device). Check you motherboard manual for more details.

The KNOPPIX CD contains a live Linux distribution based on Debian, with a KDE 3 desktop. The TINA libraries are in /usr/local/TINA5, and some TINA demos are in /usr/local/Tina5/tina-tools/toolkits/knoppix_tookit (they can be accessedvia the desktop icons).

Knorpora 1.0

Knorpora 1.0

Knorpora is a modified version of the Knoppix 3.3 Live CD for students of corpus-based computational linguistics. more>>
Knorpora is a modified version of the Knoppix 3.3 Live CD for students of corpus-based computational linguistics.

Like Knoppix, the Knorpora CD allows you to run a fully operational Debian/Linux operating system from the CD-ROM drive, without installing anything on the computer.

The Knorpora edition of Knoppix contains programs and data files that should be of interest to computational linguistics students (WordNet, the Natural Language Toolkit, taggers, etc.)

When you launch Knorpora on your computer, you can immediately start learning how to use a UNIX-like operating system while at the same time experimenting with the kind of UNIX-command-line-based NLP tools that make UNIX the ideal operating system for NLP work.

Even if you already work with UNIX, Knorpora may give you the chance to try some interesting software before you install it.

I tested Knorpora only superficially, and there will definitely be all kinds of problems.

If you experience problems with Knorpora, you can contact me (baroni AT sslmit unibo it), and I will try to help.

However, if you have problems with a specific tool, you are probably better off contacting the authors of the tool, or posting to the relevant list, and if you have general problems with the CD or the operating system, you are probably better off posting to a list where Knoppix and Linux issues are discussed.

I would like to hear from you about your Knorpora experience, suggestions for future releases, etc.

I optimistically named this release Knorpora 1.0, but I am not going to be able to release up-to-date versions on a regular basis.
