PasswordMaker 1.6.2
PasswordMaker is a small, lightweight, free, extension for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Flock. more>>
PasswordMaker project is a small, lightweight, free, extension for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Flock, and Yahoo! Widgets which creates unique, secure passwords that are very easy for you to retrieve but no one else. Nothing is stored anywhere, anytime, so theres nothing to be hacked, lost, or stolen.
How It Works:
You provide PasswordMaker two pieces of information: a "master password" -- that one, single password you like -- and the URL of the website requiring a password. Through the magic of one-way hash algorithms, PasswordMaker calculates a message digest, also known as a digital fingerprint, which can be used as your password for the website.
Although one-way hash algorithms have a number of interesting characteristics, the one capitalized by PasswordMaker is that the resulting fingerprint (password) does "not reveal anything about the input that was used to generate it." In other words, if someone has one or more of your generated passwords, it is computationally infeasible for him to derive your master password or to calculate your other passwords. Computationally infeasible means even computers like this wont help!

Jind 1.0
Jind is an interpreter for a toy programming language. more>>
Jind is an interpreter for a toy programming language. The aim of the game is to lead a person out of a labyrinth by giving appropriate textual instructions.
The challenge is to find a general solution by using conditions and loops. Jind can be used to teach the basics of programming in an understandable, entertaining, and instructive way.
Installation
To compile the program, you need a compiler for Java. I recommend to use the Java compiler provided by Sun. Go to http://www.sun.com to download it for free. Follow the instructions in the manual to install the compiler. Then do a
cd Jind-1.0
make
to compile Jind. If anything goes wrong, open the Makefile in your favourite editor and adjust the paths to your configuration.
Open the file "jind.html" in your favourite browser. I recommend to use Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, Netscape Navigator 4.0 or Mozilla 0.9x. The applet should load now and you will see an input box immediately.

camserv 0.5.1
camserv is a streaming webcam server for Video4Linux with filters. more>>
Camserv is a free program to do streaming video through the web.
Streaming video can be sent to both Netscape and Internet Explorer clients. However, Internet Explorer under Windows cannot apparently handle the multi-part JPEGs, and therefore a special javascript page must be setup. One is included in the distribution as an example.
So far the hauppage TV cards have been tested, so have the black and white quickcams, and the old colour quickcams. For use with the Hauppage TV cards, one doesnt need any camera as they can use the other channels on the card to stream TV or whatever is being inputted.
The camserv program now comes with a relay program which will allow you to offload webservers ... effectively mirroring your webcam! It will also allow you to broadcast your camera even from your masqueraded machines, or server hundreds of people from your meager 28.8!
Enhancements:
- Incorporate patches from Barak Pearlmutter , which cleaned up code, made things more portable, etc.
- Also fixed up the build to work with newer versions of AutoMake
- Included patch from Walter Haidinger (walter.haidinger@gmx.at) which fixes up support for YUV420P based v4l devices (such as the Philips camera)

EvoJava 0.9.0
EvoJava is an program for interactively exploring intriguing concepts in computer science. more>>
EvoJava is an program for interactively exploring intriguing concepts in computer science. From cellular automata and rule-based systems to fractals and genetic algorithms, EvoJava is an education tool for anyone interested in the "edges" of science. Or, if nothing else, it makes lots of pretty pictures!
EvoJava has been developed and tested using Gentoo Linux on Opteron and Pentium systems; Ive also tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox for Windows XP SP2 (where I have Suns Java installed.)
This is a preliminary beta version of EvoJava. It contains only four "universe" types, and lacks significant documentation. Im releasing this code "as is", hoping users will help me improve the final program.
Keep an eye on these pages for updates. I make no promises about schedules or about what the final program will include; all I can say is that EvoJava is moving along nicely. The final release will include full, documented source code, released under the GPL.

mod_ntlm 0.4
mod_ntlm is NTLM authentication for Apache / Unix. more>>
mod_ntlm is NTLM authentication for Apache / Unix.
Installation:
You have to be root to compile and install mod_ntlm.c successfully. You need a ready-to-run apache distribution installed. Go to the source distribution directory of mod_ntlm and enter:
make install && make restart
The Makefile is using apxs to compile and install mod_ntlm. Certain versions of apxs are known to fail unter certain versions of SuSE Linux.
It works fine for me with SuSE Linux 6.3 and Solaris 2.6, no other platforms have been tested y
Version restrictions:
- Basic authentication against SMB server is not supported. There are enough modules that do this and you need https to make it safe.
- Internet Explorer 3.0 (broken keepalive) is not supported, its about time to get a new browsers. Those users should have taken their computers away for using year old software.
- You can produce a problem by pressing reload fast and often. The connection is forced into reset each time, and sometimes Internet Explorer is sending a msg3 to an apache process that didnt send the msg1 yet. Im not sure weather this is an apache or Linux or IE problem. It could be resolved by caching credentials, which is unsafe and involves neat things like file locking and mmap().
Enhancements:
- Apache 1.3.x

Inferno Operating System 20060303
Inferno is a compact operating system designed for building distributed and networked systems on a wide variety of devices. more>>
Inferno is a compact operating system designed for building distributed and networked systems on a wide variety of devices and platforms.
Inferno was originally developed at Bell Labs (the research division of Lucent Technologies).
Inferno Operating System is a well-designed, economical operating system particularly suitable for use in networked devices such as advanced telephones, hand-held devices, TV set-top boxes, and many other embedded applications.
Inferno can run in native mode on an embedded system or in emulation mode under many different operating systems. Inferno has many features in common with Plan 9.
Cross-Platform Portability
Inferno can run as a user application on top of an existing operating system or as a stand alone operating system. Most of the popular operating systems and processor architectures are supported:
Host Operating Systems:
- Windows NT/2000/XP
- Irix
- Linux
- MacOS X
- FreeBSD
- Solaris
- Plan 9
Supported Architectures:
- Intel x86 (386 & higher)
- Intel XScale
- IBM PowerPC
- ARM StrongARM (ARM & Thumb)
- Sun SPARC
Inferno also runs as a plug-in under Internet Explorer version 4 and higher. Each Inferno system presents an identical environment to the applications, irrespective of the underlying host OS or architecture, allowing the developer to work with a truly homogeneous environment across multiple different platforms.
Portable Applications
Inferno applications are written in Limbo, a modern, safe, modular, concurrent programming language with C-like syntax. It is more powerful than C but considerably easier to understand and debug than C++ or Java. Limbo code is compiled into architecture independent byte code which is then interpreted (or compiled on the fly) on the target processor. This means that any Inferno application will run identically on all Inferno platforms.
Transparent Resources
Inferno offers complete transparency of resources and data using a simple but powerful namespace system. By representing resources as files and having one standard communication protocol, resources such as data stores, services and external devices can easily be shared between Inferno systems. A resource interface may be imported to the local system and used by the applications without them knowing, or needing to know, whether it is local or remote.
Security
High level security is an important part of the Inferno system. By using one standard protocol for all network communication, security can be focused on one point and provided at a system level. Inferno offers full support for authenticated, encrypted connections using a certificate based user identification scheme and variety of algorithms including:
- IDEA, 56 bit DES, 40, 128 and 256 bit RC4 encryption algorithms
- MD4, MD5 and SHA secure hash algorithms
A Complete Solution
Inferno is not only an operating system, it is also a complete development environment, providing all the tools necessary for creating, testing and debugging the applications that run within it.
- Acme IDE: includes editor, shell, advanced pattern matching tools & more
- Fast Compiler: with full syntax and compile time type checking
- Graphical Debugger: with full stack trace for currently executing threads
- Powerful Shell: with sophisticated scripting capabilities
- UNIX like commands: including bind, grep, gzip, mount, ps, tar, yacc...
Enhancements:
- New licence terms (a `dual licence scheme allowing use as Free Software)
- Styx revision based on 9P2000, and consequent changes to Sys
- Authentication changes
- Improved colour graphics support, including compositing
- Scalable fonts using Freetype
- Revamped Tk implementation
- Window management moved out of Tk to a separate window manager in Limbo
- Limbo: exception handling and fixed-point
- Limbo: other possible changes
- Dis VM changes
- More commands and library modules
- Better network service configuration
- /net/dns served by host and native DNS resolver
- Hosted kernels configured from a parts list as for native kernels
- Signed modules
- Internet Explorer plug-in revised and in source form
- Expanded documentation

FreeMIS 1.05
FreeMIS project is developing a free and better alternative to the commercial MIS products. more>>
FreeMIS project is developing a free and better alternative to the commercial MIS products. All the FreeMIS files and data are stored on a web server, and the FreeMIS system is accessed via the Internet. Users simply need an Internet connection and a modern web browser (preferrably Firefox, but Internet Explorer 6 and Safari work fine).
Each user has a unique username and password, which grant them access to the system. At present, only teachers can access the system, but the design of FreeMIS is ready for access by any of the stakeholders in the school system - students, parents, governors etc.
At present, FreeMIS is used to write reports to parents on pupil progress. Using FreeMIS, teachers can write reports at a time and place of their own choosing. Some choose to write reports in school, but many now write their reports from home.
Main features:
- Password protected access, to ensure security of data.
- Web-based, so it can be accessed on any computer connected to the Internet, without the need for special software.
- Storage of pupil and staff data
- Storage of class enrollment and course data
- Production of reports to parents/guardians on pupil progress
- Monitoring of pupil progress through a tracking and target setting system, which includes the automatic generation of letters to parents/guardians
- Noting of unexplained absences, which automatically generates a warning email to the school office
The FreeMIS project aims to provide schools with a high quality alternative to the proprietary Management Information Systems that abound in schools in the UK and beyond.
We at the FreeMIS project believe that the best way to create a high quality MIS is to develop it as an Open Source project. This means that the system and the code from which it is built will always be freely available.
At present, FreeMIS only offers a subset of the functionality of a comprehensive MIS. Development is ongoing, however, and FreeMIS has stood the test of being used in a Scottish High School.
Becta has recently published a report highlighting the financial savings possible if schools move towards Open Source alternatives. FreeMIS aims to be part of the package that schools will adopt.
Enhancements:
- Added user/admin_edit screen to simplify administration
- Cleaned up xhtml
- Fixed bug #1497176
- Refactored code to make it more DRY
- Removed historic tables from old PHP version
- Improved admin screen to edit pupil sets
- Increased coverage of unit/functional tests
- Cleared up css for reports, and switched full reports to print on blank page, rather than having fancy hiding of navigation stuff for printing.
- Fixed bug that made reports vanish if pupil was dropped from a pupil set
- Put together all academic_year related details on one form for ease of administration
- Gave Heads of Faculties write access to all faculty reports
